Seems to be true alright, alot of talk about it last night from players, managers and most importantly committee members so it looks as tho its happening.
Davey wall to be Player/Manager too...
Time to get my newtown tattoo lasered off my chest.
No more ''Hail hail''...no more ''Welcome to hell''...
Sad day. ;)
would the players / members not have a big say on this surely newtown / park cannot merge without consulting players / members about this  keep your tattoo may be a breakaway of newtown rebels who will chain themselves to club house to save the club and try and start a new club ..
Will it be Lodge or Knights after games then??? Surely this was discussed and agreed at meetings:D
The new team will be playing in 1B, unless Park get promoted!
ref was poor ,but in fairmess he applied the letter of the law to the game
he kept sayin arms /hands have no place in the game an a lot of the frees were because of so called pushes on high balls are so called phyiscal challenges like shoulders etc...
lifford lost their heads in the last 15 mins when their 2 guys got the line for abusing the ref
avenue did well considering they had 10 men from teh 25th min on an they deserved their win totally
Boys I was as surprised as anybody as this was kept under wraps until final details were agreed. It was then taken to both committees for ratification and final agreement. Neither club is folding as such. Both clubs are amalgamating pooling resources like administrators, managers, coaches, facilities and players. Team will play as Park for 1 year but with new colours and crest and be renamed the following season.
People will be against it but anybody who really knows what goes on behind the scenes will agree it was necessary for both clubs to survive long term and both sets of people involved should be commended for this brave decision.
I wasn't involved but this is my understanding and I stand to be corrected on any of these points.
Personally its an end of an era as such having played for Newtown for 20+ years but its a sad sign of the times and was neccessary for both clubs to go forward
[QUOTE=old git;925545]fair enough but no doubt a lot of other people involved will have other views also ]
Its sad news alright, but the state of things at the moment, somfin has to be done:(
Yes..
it will be sad to see newtown go at the end of the season...no more talkin themselves up for silverware at the start of the year on here and then ending up with nothing:p
are newtown 'too good' for the clare league?? personally i think that park rangers should have to play in the clare league since they are located in clare and a good distance from the border but thats another topic
Great result for avenue this weekend esp as AvenueC says with 10 men for so long. This thursday night will be huge in determining where the league goes i reckon.
On another note I cannot believe this news with Newtown. Its a huge loss to Clare soccer as they have brilliant facilities and some fine players. ( i think they had 5 players on this years oscar traynor squad)
Will they have a strong team for thursday night and remainder of season??
which one of the shannon based clubs is going out of business??
