I wasn't at the game yesterday but when I heard what happened I cast my mind back to the Tipperary Cup semi-final of two seasons ago. It was between Celtic and St.Michaels and two minutes from the end Saints scored what looked a perfectly legimitate equaliser, no flag from the linesman, no protest from Celtic, a perfect goal. However after a pause of about 30 seconds the referee decided to overrule the linesman and adjudged the goal offside. Guess who the referee was.
1st off I'm not sure how he disallowed the goal that came off the crossbar, 2nd, the other incident did not cross the line that's 100% certain so that's a non story. As regards officials the referee is probably the worst in the league he somehow managed to award a free against johnny Cagney for getting kicked in the chest. He is so inconsistent is a joke. As regards the 1st half I was definitely watching a different game I don't understand how some feel st michaels should have been 2 up at half time as Celtic had the clearest chance with Evan McGuire. The best player on show yesterday was Dwayne Burns who was outstanding.
great win for Tipp Town Fc in cup yesterday. Draw for last 8 should be interesting
A couple of points on the game yesterday as an avid saints fan I certainly dont subscribe to the view that the ref hates saints and goes out of his way to annoy us , I do honestly think he is best ref we have and in fact is a very decent guy but saying that I do believe he had an off day ( which we all have )
On the game itself it was a pretty timid 1st half with nothing in it and I thought either a piece of magic or a mistake would be the difference unfortunately it was the latter on Celtic 1st two goals the 1st and individual error and the 2nd poor organisation that left Stephen ryan at the back post , credit saints with getting back into it and should have fit equaliser they deserved whether you blame the ref or not I would rather look at the chance s we missed the 3rd was really against the run of play yes he was offside but the saints should had played on and nit just stood up . I honestly believe we done enough to get something out of the game as there was nothing in it and 3/1 was a very unfair to us
To keep goin on about ref should take from a great Celtic win, good luck to them and I hope the cup will stay in the tsdl
Celtic will have it all to do to win the munster but after a result like yesterday they have no one to fear
everyone knows the standard of refs in the tsdl is crap not for just st michaels but for every team ,,,some of them are to old and need to retire some are just blind and some go around like they are the bees knees. they have this attitude that they are right all the time, but tommy lewis would want to start attending other games not just saints all the time and see what is going on all the time. we need some new refs lads so anyone on this think they are up to it ???????
are you volounteering yourself for the job qwertyabu????
who would want to be a ref to be fair they get some abuse .Im not sticking up for them either as i have had plenty of run ins with a couple of TSDL refs down through the years. i was at game yesterday and i think the officals were poor .best of luck to saints and celtic in the cups ,and celtics time is coming to be top dog in TIPP
the referee in question was an Evergreen man all his life, where did clonmel celtic come out of??? an evergreen and st olivers amalgamation, id say myself he was givin the 60/40's to Celtic!
Yeah cause clonmel Celtic have never been on the end of bad decisions. Conspiracy theories anyone? I'm pretty sure the ref Sunday was from tipp town, should the keeper from st michaels not been sent off for running 25 yards out of his goal to shoulder evan McGuire 1st?
sorry bishbash, you knew what i meant, the linesman!!
bishbash 1st of all the referee last sun is not from tipp town, and secondly he has definantly no allegiance to st michael's. you do have a point about the keeper running from his goal but that was after the linesman had done his swan act. maybe the ref felt saints had been harshly treated already?? interesting.
Republican, I think it was you who said in a recent post 'that we should drop talking about this as it takes the gloss of what was a great result for Celtic'!!!!!
I know Sgtbilko brought it up again but I would ignore anything that guy says because when it comes to Celtic he has a habit of spouting rubbish.
Anyway back to important matters. It looks like St Michaels will just have the league and FAI to fight for after Sunday considering who is reffing your Tipp Cup game this Sunday :):)
all refs are going to have an attachment to an area or a club. unless you get limerick refs to do tipp leagues, waterford refs cork etc but im sure we would have worse gripes then re costs, standard or one countys refs etc.
Anyway back to football. Should be good game tonight in cooke park. Full squad to select from i hope :) :)
sorry roberto didnt realise that. subject closed so :) yes i wouldnt rule anything out. could be a short season :)
with mcguire been sent off sunday i wonder will celtic's history of lack of dicipline come back to haunt them as they move on tomwards the penultimate stage of major competitions, he will be a serious loss
Oscar Traynor Cup; TSDL 5, Cork A.U.L. 1. With the exception of a ten minute spell early in the second-half this was walk in the park for TSDL. Totally superior. Scorers were Michael Rafter (2), Jimmy Carr, Cooper Fahey, Kevin Waters. Team was Derek Breen, Chris Higgins, Kevin Waters, John Shanahan, Chalkey Walshe, Colin Bargary, Cooper Fahey, Michael Rafter, Noel Kent, Jimmy Carr. Subs used were Jim Carroll for Bargary, Joe Harkins for Kent, Declan Peters for Carr.
