SLIGO Rovers manager Paul Cook has said he is “very disappointed” with the lack of progress in signing new players, writes John Bromley. Cook was clearly unhappy that he was unable to report that he was any closer to strengthening Rovers squad when speaking yesterday [Monday

Moore will be joining Rovers for pre-season training plus Ventre is on his way back.

Sligo Rovers manager Paul Cooke has confirmed today that former Irish international midfielder Alan Moore is set to join the club for pre season training with a view to being offered a contract. Moore, who made eight appearances for Ireland was badly hit by injuries last season when contracted to Derry City.Paul Cooke has been quoted as saying that a fit Alan Moore would be a big asset to Sligo Rovers.
Meanwhile, defender Danny Ventre will be returning to the Showgrounds although midfielder Mark Boyd will not, as he is anxious to resume his career in England

He fills the Accrington - Southport requirement anyway :)
Two new signings to be announced tomorrow
Is it Wesley or Charles?
Another development
BARROW AFC were tonight expected to complete the signing of former Carlisle midfield general Mark Boyd from Sligo Rovers.
But in a shock development, the Bluebirds’ popular left-back Chris Butler has moved in the opposite direction on a full-time contract with the Irish Premier club.
So Butler is the defender that's gonna be confirmed tomorrow then presumably.
Is that allowed?Quote:

Barrow fans opinion of Butler
I really liked Boyd, techinally he was great.
Whats this about Big Wes?Would love him back
I heard he is mad to come back.
read all the opinions of the barrow fans. its great to see that he is rated very highly and they all seem to be genuinley gutted on his departure. paul you are very welcome to sligo. up the bit o red
Good to see some signings. I would like to see a striker signed. Judgey is a confidence player and if he's off form then it takes him a while to get going again. I would be surprised if Faz is there at the start of the season, so it would be good to see a striker being signed.
He lost his confidence when he got the award last year; that’s complacency nothing else.
Would it be so bad to try and bring Paul McTieran and may be Colm Heffernan back to the club they both have been released by Athlone Town. from what i remember Heffernan was a good player.
I think if cook is good at bringing the best out of a player then why not these guys. they cant have turned bad players in such a short time and i though Athlone were straped for cash may be they were too high earners for a cash straped first division club.
What time is the press conference tomorrow (Friday) evening.
Is it eight bells in the Showgies?
i think people have been over critical over judge.....everyone was quick to praise him when he was playing his best in the summer wins over shams, cork, bohs and the rest but were very quick to jump on his back when he didnt perform too well. he wasnt the only one......
"Sligo are now paying a small fee for Butler in addition to agreeing to the Boyd transfer"
wonder how much this is?
Not true in the case of McTiernan. He scored 6 goals in the 2006 in the Premier and that was just one goal less than Mansaram. He also won player of the month at one stage in that season before getting crocked with an injury against Dublin City which sidelined him for a fair bit.
He'd be a decent back up to have. Not sure about Heffernan, but he's still quite young and could be worth checking out.
CPO also to be announced tonight.

Any chance the outcome of this press conference will be up on sligorovers.com after it has happened tonight gus/paraic? Will their be a representative of the website at it or will we have to wait til Sligo Weekender or Ocean FM announce it?
Just viewed the Ocean FM link and it never ceases to amaze me how so many people manage to spell Paul Cook incorrectly. it used to be the same with Sean Connor when he was here.
Well there's only one 'F' in Longford anyway... !
Yes its true people turned a blind eye to his lack of effort when he was scoring, i think thats natural though. Come on you saw it yourself at shams away, why else would he have been taken off at the end even though he only came on as a sub? Now i have no doubt judge is a gifted player but he does not go in for tackles/track back, simple as, doesn't change the fact that i think he is a good player. While others may not have performed well towards the end of the season they still gave 100%.
