Unless Zimbabwe beat Pakistan too. If we win (and its about evens on betfair) Pakistan are definitely out

Just had Alison Mitchell on the radio spelling out what would happen if Ireland pulled off the improbable and won.
Ireland would be all but through - and Pakistan would be on the next plane home
Bit of moisture in the air being reported - as the covers are being brought on the protect the strip.
This could work against us - it's not a cut and dried thing yet...
Ireland contributed more runs to the Pakistan innings than any individual Pakistani batsman. 29 extras versus a top score of 27 by Kamran Akmal.
Pretty much neck-and-neck as of now. All Ireland have to do is bat the 50, tick along at three per over and they're home. But I have an inkling that Pakistan's pace will be too much.
Great pic from cricinfo
[cliché]A good start is crucial[/cliché]
India in trouble against Bangladesh too.
was watching the highlights on sky news and one of the catches by one of the irish lads (cant remember if he was one of the O'Brien brothers) is one of the greatest I have ever seen !!!! BRILLIANT
What is the super eights? Quarter finals?
Think the top two in each group go into two more groups of four, with the top two again going to the knock out semis.
Ireland have come out to bat 10 for 1 at the moment
i know we are doing well but i have no idea how the scoring works. anyone like to try and explain it to me?
the answer could be a very long mail so will only explain this match. Basically because they are all out for 132. Ireland have to score 133. as it stands Ireland are 41 for 2. The 2 means that 2 players have been bowled out.
Drinks break :)
61-2 off 21
66/3 - half way there from 21.4 overs.
Pakistan were 66/5, which can only be a boost as well.
66-3, Porterfield chops Hafeez onto his own leg stump. Not necessarily a bad thing, depending on how Botha does. Although Ireland have plenty of overs to play with, 13 off 50 balls is a bit much (or little.) He was utterly becalmed and contributing next to nothing. If these two can put on 30-40 we should be home and hosed. Still in the balance.
Botha out for a duck, Ireland in huge trouble at 70/4. Awful, awful decision. Bat was nowhere near it. Probably cost Ireland the game.
70-4
I backed them at 9-2 on, bit worried about losing my money now!!
81/4 now off 27 overs
The jinx of the traditional Patricks day weather to the rescue for once in our lives?
what? is it raining? If its rained out then it will be declared a draw!
Yep, rain stops play.
Bad light and rain stopped play. The quorum of 20 overs has been completed, so if play doesn't resume today Ireland will win under the Duckworth Lewis method. Methinks the powers that be will are frantically revising downward their criteria of what constitutes playable conditions...
There's a reserve day, but it's only used if fewer than 20 overs of the second innings are completed. If there's no more play, Ireland win.
It means the target is revised downward according to a formula based on run-rate and time available. Won't come into play unless there's a long rain delay and play resumes.
covers coming off?
Bad news if true. Conditions will suit bowling if play resumes. Could play into Pakistan's hands if we're back on anytime soon.
From Cricinfo:

4.35pm It's has cleared a little, but still not very bright ... the covers remain in place and nobody is looking inclined to emerge from the higher ground. The BBC are reporting that the game will resume tomorrow. With respect to Auntie, we can confirm that the game will not be concluded tomorrow. It's either tonight or we have an Irish win.
How many more overs is Sami allowed to bowl (if it restarts)?
1.3..
1.3, although if the 50 overs are reduced, the bowlers' allocation is normally cut too.
covers coming off, with a revised target of 128 for the Irish.
128 off 47 overs needed
