Probably. Could be Dublin teams on rotation. Pat's and Shels next season maybe?

Would an opening weekend double header ever be a runner (Gardai would probably say no).
The Dublin Derby was a success. Bohemians must be at least tempted to repeat starting the season against a Dublin opponent in the Aviva. If other Dublin clubs want to do the same, possibly all 4 in rotation can reach some agreement. One match curtain raiser for the season seems the approach to take.
Dublin GAA used to do something similar for a few years. A warning that it might not last. Dublin LoI clubs have the advantage though that they should be competitive.
It might not last- a very valid point Legendz. The biggest and best supported local team on the island is Dublin GAA football How many times in a season can they get 40k plus to see them.
I love the growth we are seeing in our league, but that is happening despite crap facilities and clubs only being able to extend capacity a small bit, Pats and Shels. Lets see how Derry get on this year, they have a good bit of extra capacity so will they get the odd sell out and reguarly hit 90% of capacity?.
RSC 3488
Drogs 2212
Cobh 1357
Galway 4231
Athlone 673
F Harps 1420
1,420 given in Finn Park but is almost certainly inaccurate. It was much closer to 2,000. Likely to have been a lot of tickets not scanned properly.
Massive crowd in Edp closer to 5,000 and the capacity will be increased to 5,200 for the Shels game on.
Looked brilliant on virgin and their coverage was excellent .miles ahead of Rte. We have a whole new generation of supported and the atmosphere is brilliant .
Interesting first round attendances in the First Division.
Poor showing in Athlone, a smidge higher than Longford but both clubs would have contrasting expectations for the season.
Quote:
Dundalk - 2,600
Finn Harps - ~2,000
Cobh Ramblers - 1,357
Treaty United - 1,236
Kerry FC - 810
Athlone Town - 673
Longford Town - 646
UCD - 318
Bray Wanderers -
Wexford FC -
Wasn't sure what to make of the Cobh figure, but seems they hadn't been in four digits since Cork visited, so evidently full of hope about being in the promotion shake-up.
Read online that Drogs have extra seats in the stand that is the other side of the Windmill Road, obv they need to keep the away shed free, and no idea how many Sligo took but wondering what the capacity is now, any Drogs know, is it up to 2,500 now?
Also heard they had to hit the 2k min seating that is PD (not PL;)) requirement. Not sure they got over 2k last year, so it must be the extra seats that side.
I might be misremembering/misquoting a fella I spoke to at the ground a week ago, I think he said 2,300 is what they were aiming for. Have lost some standing capacity because of the seating. Were moving some stuff behind the goals further back to make that area a bit wider/safer for people to go through as well.
Always thought behind the non housing estate goal, there is a fair bit of space to stand at Drogs.
There were comments before they were at capacity, but that part never seems to have fans in it, and its not due to all seater regulations etc.
Bohs average home attendance of 33,208 is still very impressive.
Typo! Its the amount of times they've tried to sell Dalymound before DCC bit!
I dont think those numbers will be repeated tbh, doesnt mean holding games in the Aviva would be a fail just the the figures would fall below 33k and reduce each time. If it were Dundalk getting that financial boost I would cre a dot about some unfair advantage but that aside if its an FAI driven thing then there should be broader benefit.
Might be because the ground doesn’t hold 5,000 and there wasn’t that many people there.
I read from a Galway fan on Twitter that 2 games were announced as officially sold out at EDP last season, the first game of the season against Pats (4,094 attendance) and the last home game of the season against Sligo (4,323). So where they’ve allegedly fit in room for an extra 1,000 people I have absolutely no clue
Capacity has just been increased to 5,100. I'm not exactly sure what happened for it to go up, but it was increased by 800
If they have, I haven't seen it.
The figure was reduced to 4,300 just after Covid there was a new engineers report at the end of last season which ratified the new safe holding capacity to 5 ,200 which comes into effect on Monday.
To be fair the ground is definitely well able to hold 5k. There's been over 6k+ capacity games in there in years gone by. I'm not going full hog on a conspiracy that GUFC would have sold more than the 4300 capacity but it did strike me as peculiar that there wasn't regular social media posts leading up to the game telling people that there was a chance the game would sell out and to buy tickets early.
Just odd they'd get within 70 people of capacity and to not have made a big deal over the scarcity like they're usually in too much of a rush to do.
With the stands combined, that's about 3K seats (open to correction), is there really room for 2 or even 3K more standing behind the clubhouse goal and around the perimeter?
There is standing room at the back of the old stand and room at the other 3 sides to accommodate the extra 900.
Took longer than might have been expected, but Kerry v Dundalk looks to have sold out, going by the ticket section of the club website.
1,200 - there were 1,150 at the first Cork game last season, and you'll always get some few no shows.
Heady days. There used to be a 'domestic fast-track' security queue in Dublin airport.
Used to be fairly regular for us fans going to Cork away. Flight from Belfast City-Cork, or Dublin-Cork (or even Derry-Stansted-Cork).
The team used to always fly to Cork the day before the match. Aer Arann had a Derry-Cork route with a stop in Dublin, or they'd go from Belfast City. The bus would drop them off at the airport, then drive down to Cork empty to bring them back up.
We went bust around that time too, for one reason or another.
In fairness its hard to resist at €20 for the flight
Something pretty wrong with our carbon emissions plan in that case!
Some friends of mine rent a Driveyou/Gocar/Yuko carsharing car in Dublin and the 4 of them head off to away matches, costs about €80 between the 4 of them and insurence and petrol are free.
Only draw back is someone has to volunteer to be designated driver each week , they are always on the look out for a non drinker :)
