JOF possible re signing. Very promising I hear.
If we get him back and then get these 3 or 4 from UK of good quality then it will be the best squad we have had in years, load of times we have had a good starting 11 but no bench but if we get these done then you are looking at a few decent players as back ups.
JOF= John o Flynn?????
Yeah, sorry I thought it was obvious.
To old and injury prone for premier league
Certainly not as first choice striker but good to come off bench for last twenty minutes if needed . Lots of experience.
O'Flynn would be completely reliant on good service and I'd be ok with that because we know he can be lethal with half a chance.
Well I wouldn't say too old at all he is still ridiculously fit and the injuries aren't an age thing he has had em all his career. Like JOF(spring not O'Flynn) said give him service and he is well capable of putting em away would be a hell of a lot better as an option off the bench than some young lad that has never had a run in LOI and if we get a main striker from UK would leave us with them JOF Clarke and Mulhall that can play up top which I'd be happy with tbh. And on the service thing has to be said we did create an awful lot with Lee J,Clarke and Turner supplying Vinny during that run no reason they can't create enough next season for all Turners faults he has a fantastic delivery of a ball.
We still need another top centre half paudie ( if signs) squad player at best.
Robbie again squad player 3rd and 4th choice centre half's there just not good enough for premier league level the chances we give up per game against very poor sides is worrying that next season will be punished.
All about opinions but I wouldn't agree at all about Robbie imo hes a fine defender get him fit and more interested than he was last year and he is easily good enough to start in premier. He is putting in serious work too this off season from what I'm told.
Paudie is a squad player at best at the moment. As long as we sign a good centre half anyway. But he's only 18 and if/when he signs in England or wherever and gets a fair crack at it, we could be looking at a very good player in a few years.
And if Robbie's training with Balla he'll still need a proper preseason to get rid of that backside. Haven't seen anything to say that any Balla players are any fitter than your run of the mill junior player.
Training with Balla is just part of the work he is doing and he will still obviously be going through pre-season with Joe Gamble but the likes of him and Lee J will be coming back from a way better starting position having trained with Balla than lads that have taken the time off.
John O'Flynn would be a fantastic signing imo, his movement in and around the box is among the best in the country. Having a player of his calibre and with his level of professionalism can only be a good thing for some of the younger/inexperienced lads. Perfect option to have if we are struggling to break teams down
Anyone hear Mike Aherne this morning?
Was hoping to find out myself one the lads was telling me he was talking about players from the UK.
Spoke about looking for two strikers.
Jaysus I wonder is that with John O'Flynn too with rumour going round that he is re-signing. Hope he doesn't forget a back up midfielder cos drop off from our starting 3 to subs is way too big.
Was told two deals done with CF n DEF from UK, just waiting to be announced.
Both from same club?
Don't know that.
Only asked cos had heard a rumour two from same club were coming over but heard no names or positions.
Just seen this now. How can you say poor form from the club if you don't know what happened? And what would you like the club to say about it the lad had health issues and has had to retire from football I'd much prefer the club respect his privacy at what must have been an awful time for him than come out telling people about it so it was hardly swept under the carpet. From all I am told the club were very good with him during the whole thing.
Didn't mean to have a go at anyone, apologies if it came across that way. As you say I didn't know what happened, that's awful news. I didn't realise the injury was so severe and therefore I was wondering why no sign of the lad for the rest of the season. If it was the wishes of Seamus Sharkey for no statement to be made that is completely different. Thanks for the reply and again didn't mean to have a dig at anyone.
Back to training this week so should become clear soon enough what kinda team we are gonna have all the talk has been lads from the UK so we will see how quickly they come in if they do come in and what kind of standard they are. I would hope if there are good quality lads over having a look and people find out they don't go plastering it all over social media and stuff before anything is actually signed.
Sean Russell signs for an American club.
Nice move for young Russell. The fact that his father was manager wasn't ideal but he did ok for us over the last two seasons and I wish him well. More importantly any mention of these UK signings plus when are the lads starting pre season?
I'd no problem with Sean being there as a squad player but he needed to get away from his father for his own good. Happy that he has gotten himself a good move because he is a lovely fella.
Training starts this week at some stage.
From what I have seen on social media training seems to be starting tomorrow.
Mike Aherne said yesterday morning that we were looking at 2 centre forwards and a defender from the UK. One a former Dundalk player currently with Rochedale. I only caught the end of the discussion so not sure what was said about the other two signings.
Is that Donal McDermott? Looking at his stats on Wikipedia he seems to not have a great goal return per match for a forward.
He's not a forward, more a creative midfielder. Think he played on the wing for Dundalk.
I think he was released by Dundalk too after failing to impress.
Plays on wing for Rochdale too.
You're quite right: http://www.transfermarkt.com/donal-m...s/0?saison=ges
Left winger mostly. Assist stats don't exactly jump out, but wouldn't turn my nose up.
Do we need a winger?
As mentioned, he can slot in at CAM too.
Edit: Actually, it was just said he was a midfielder, but the link above shows he's played only a few less games at CAM than LW for Rochdale.
Who is to say he won't play striker for us? Dundalk signed him to play striker I believe and Russell used a supposed winger in Mulhall as a striker. From anyone I ask about him though I am told he would be a great signing including lads that played with him at Dundalk.
