Same when cork battered us down there, pitch was very bumpy.

Oriel Park is a disgrace and if the FAI had any backbone it would not pass inspection for the 2017 season, god only knows how it's been allowed in this and past seasons, it's not even 3 or 4G for christ sake!
Dundalk of course know the pitch inside out and play to its variable bounce, extra bounce and the fact that the opposition will and do always find it a difficult surface to play on.
Should be banned.
seen something in the star today about UCD being unhappy with Cabinteelys pitch the other night. anyone care to elaborate on this?
Sons of pitches the lot of 'em!
Dundalk would be a better team on grass so for people to say the Astro gives them an advantage is nonsense
You're ignoring how slick the surface is when it's been coated in minerals. Ideal for passing football.
We've spunked the european money we got the past 2 seasons on coke to water the pitch with and bags of buffalo hunky dorys in bribes to UEFA
Unfortunately though that means there will again be no crisps and minerals available for the fine folk of Longford upon their next visit to Oriel so I would suggest they stock up in the garage next door before entering the ground.
In preparation for game in Oriel on Friday, Galway United have been training on a deflated bouncy castle.
The pitch at the Markets Field in Limerick is absolutely perfect.
It was often said that the pitch in Monaghan was so good because they put a pile of sh1te on it every fortnight.
Ferrycarrig Park has been HEAVILY sanded. Next game on it is V Rovers on 13th
Finn Park looks just lovely.
Just realised also, this thread was started by poor old Dunny.
Just awful news to hear of his passing. We can snipe away at each other at various topics but when you hear of a young lad in his mid 20's passing away it makes you appreciate the most important thing around, being alive.

Dundalk FC are pleased to confirm that a new pitch will be installed in time for the start of the 2017 SSE Airtricity League season. The pitch to be installed is a Limonta Sport Max S P+ 60mm which has a unique double-S shape filament which guarantees unparalleled quality in terms of long-term playability.
The club examined all options for the pitch at Oriel Park. It is the club’s preferred option to install a new natural turf pitch. However, having examined this option with stadium and pitch developers, we believe it is not the right time for the club to return to grass. As well as our first team, we have several underage and ladies’ teams whose match and training requirements need to be catered for. A new grass pitch will form part of a wider development plan that includes overall stadium improvements as our new Limonta surface can be relocated in the future.
The installation of the new pitch is the first part of a long-term strategy to improve the facilities at Oriel Park for players, staff and both Dundalk and visiting supporters. The club are undertaking a major review into the long-term future of Oriel Park. Given that our that long-standing legal issues have only recently being resolved, this process is still in its early stages.
Looks like it's just a stop-gap solution for a few seasons until they can buy/build new pitches for the underage/ladies team, whereby they can then move the artificial turf to their training ground and finally install natural grass in Oriel. Seems to make sense.
Wouldn't say that'd be too cheap to stick in, but fair play
If the pitch isn't ready we can reverse fixtures with you.
I can't wait for the first home game...off work early pints in the Maldran and Jo home.
Takes very little to keep me happy : )
although the Bozo's first up does have appeal beyond Dundalk .....no offence : )
Interesting links here on the type of pitch that will be going in. No more of those awful looking black rubber pellets for a start.

That will look terrific with some minerals and crisps scattered around.
It'll be good to see a proper plastic pitch there. Just hope it's maintained properly
So the President's Cup won't be played in Oriel then. Home advantage back to Cork, or a neutral venue?
Always laugh a lot and cry a little when this thread comes back on to the main forum.Dunny me old friend was totally losing it with everyone here when he started it :D
Anyone know what this is going to cost? Rough guess even
300k according to the Indo.
