Does the way all 5 of their careers ended up panning out not demonstrate exactly why they weren't called up for Ireland? That might be harsh on Towell but he hasn't demonstrated that he was deserving of a call up since he signed for Brighton.Quote:

Well Towell himself seems to want a chance at Championship level and Hughton already said he's keen for him to send him out on loan.
Had a quick look and he played 38 games. I think the issue was that he wasn't in their plans and they had Bobby Convey nailed to be their starting PL winger so he was, as far as I can remember, told he could leave. He told them he wasn't letting the chance to play in the PL pass him by.Quote:

In all honesty a move to a Championship may be the best of both worlds for Richie.
Don't think he's going to break into an Albion team which is going to struggle and ultimately be relegated this season.
If he sets up at a decent Championship team it will be good for him and whereas his Brighton team mates will be headed in the wrong direction this season, he could be moving towards the PL?
But hasn't he failed to get in a side challenging in that very division ? Sides gearing up for a tilt at Prem will be looking at better apps stats than he offers, or he would be seen as a squad depth addition which serves him badly. He might have to aim lower, I hope not and I think he is plenty good enough, but 6 months being the best player at a lower end Championship side or upper L1 would do at this stage, get him going again.Quote:

With that said I do hope most, if not all, of these lads find success and put themselves in the frame for regular international football (and there are certainly reasons to believe that there a couple who will). Maguire doesn't have to prove himself to merit a place in the squad ahead of Aiden O'Brien and especially Will Keane. Maguire has been on a sensational scoring run and is full of confidence. I've no problem with Maguire in the squad.
As for Towell he needs games. A Championship club would be taking a risk bringing him in considering his injuries & form. He's more likely to get a L1 or SPFL side signing him.
I think Towell is well capable of performing in the Championship, but needs to get back on track first.
The Towell injury issue is slightly over played IMO, he regularly played for Brightons under 23s
I don't know if I'd quite agree with that. Apart from a hat-trick against an Estonian side, he hasn't scored from play in ten games in Europe. Scoring goals for fun for Cork is what Roy O'Donovan, John O'Flynn and Dave Mooney did before him (ironically, Kevin Doyle has a worse scoring record for Cork than any of those). And the LoI is arguably poorer now than when the others were playing in it.Quote:

But samhaydenjr's point is absolutely valid. I think the success rate of LoI players going cross-channel is lower than many people might realise.
With the run Maguire was on he was a bit of a let down in Europe this season, but it wasn't just him. The whole team were poor. They only lost 2-0 on aggregate to Larnaca but never looked like beating them and nearly blew the 2nd leg at home to Tallinn. This Cork team is nowhere near the level of Dundalk over the past few years, but that's a debate for another section on the forum.Quote:

I don't think there's anything official, but there was at least one newspaper article last year where he expressed an interest before he got injured. Now he doesn't have a stellar goalscoring record at senior level but Hull obviously saw something in him that they felt made it worth their while paying a million pounds for him and putting him straight into their Premier League first team. I think it would have been good management by MON and Keano to at least touch base with him and acknowledge his interest and let him know that they'll keep an eye on him because there's always a possibility that he'll go on a scoring spree upon his return.Quote:
