Well I'd agree Villa are the better bet long-term regardless.

Well I'd agree Villa are the better bet long-term regardless.
Went on his thread on Villatalk last night quickly, they seemed to think he looks a player but the side are hoofing too much to benefit from him. Its better if Bruce weathers this for him but its looking like a real nose dive presently.
First goal for Villa after coming on as a sub. They lead Bristol City 2-0. O'Dowda started for them.
Just saw it on SSN, a close range finish with his right foot, not one for his spectacular highlights reel but a massive moment for him all the same.
Video of his goal against Bristol here: https://twitter.com/NickGrifindor/st...755776/video/1
Not his best goal ever, I think that is the first time I've ever seen him in the opposiition box!
He is back at top of the Championship stats, joint top.
Might have his second for Villa as he and the defender both slid in but it's registered as a Will Vaulks own goal on Sky Sports for now. They lead 1-0 at Rotherham.
Criticised for missing several chances against Rotherham at the weekend and he's missed another this evening from ten yards.
Villa fans are crazy about him though.
Sheffield Wednesday down to ten men after Vincent Sasso was sent off for a foul on Conor Hourihane, who assisted Villa's goal.
SW may live to regret not pushing strongly enough to sign Hourihane when they had the chance.
Highlights v Wednesday.
Very nice assist, got a player sent off due to alertness/speed, had a chance himself but put it wide, played a part in early build up for second goal.
Was there not some other player at villa who was eligible for Ireland, seems he play a couple of games ago, came on and then was subbed off
after 10 mins, I forget his name now.
[edit - seem I forgot to post the video too!! here it is]

Anyway, is that 4 wins in a row now? Quick reversal in fortunes.
Not quite, they lost to Huddersfield last week. More importantly though, they've cut the deficit to Barnsley from thirteen points to just three, so OwlsFan may yet restore his pride. :)
Oh it seems in my haste I forgot to post the video.

I can't imagine too many people sitting through that but 4 controversial incidents on which, despite the rants of many Wednesday fans, the ref got right in 3. Owls goal disallowed: scorer not offside but player who heads the ball to him was. Correct. Sending off: Weds centre-half has worse first touch than me and would have broken a leg with the subsequent lunge if Hourihane (I think) doesn't get out of the way. Correct. Owls penalty appeal: Looks like Hunt pulled back. Incorrect. Villa second goal offside ? No. Correct decision.
It only about 2 mins, it automatically goes into the extended highlights though.
Linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday.

no he's not, that's an opinion piece on who the journalist would like to see Sheffield Wednesday sign

Scores late on to bring Villa back into it at Reading. Good strike from inside the box. The trail 2-1... Whelan scored an o.g. earlier. Villa have been well outplayed by the sounds of it.
Two points behind the club he left. Sometimes things do not go well for big spending clubs?
They aren't a million miles away yet. Come on Brucey, get it together!!
Now he's getting going. Another goal for Hourihane. He has opened the scoring against a fancied Norwich. Appears to be playing in a 4-4-2 beside Whelan. If he gets another run under his belt it would be nice to see him become a real option for us. Having someone in midfield with an eye for goal is important for us.
One wasn't enough for him. Got a second to make it 3-1.
EDIT: Hat trick for him. Good finish too apparently.
That's fantastic. Delighted for him, that should sort out the pecking order in midfield nicely.
Should do but Henri Lansbury came on for the player that started number 10 and got two assists. Pecking order sorted but now Bruce might have to shoehorn in a third centre midfielder.
Hourihane seems like a confidence player though. He went on some great runs with Barnsley. Hopefully this also sparks the latest streak.
EDIT: And the boys on the Villa forum seem to be really keen on him (as you would be when your player gets a hat trick): https://www.villatalk.com/topic/1603...ihane/?page=71
Hat trick eh?
Seems a while since and Irish internation got a hat trick at club level.
Who got the last one?
I can't remember, surely we don't have to back as far as Robbie Keane?
I really looking at the top two tiers.
[edit] It was not Keane, so who was it?
Did Daryl Murphy get any in that prolific season he had with Ipswich?
Tweet here with Hourihane's goals... Funny comment about the Norwich keeper celebrating the hat-trick also. ;)

Hourihane only got 7 last season!

Only one midfielder has ever scored over ten goals for the Republic of Ireland... that's astonishingly poor!
A bit disingenuous not to mention Ian Harte and Noel Cantwell who both hit double figures from full-back.
[Edit]
Didn't Cantwell score more than Daly as well?
