Trap looked really annoyed Wes scored!

Trappatoni no longer likes hugs from Tardeli.
Trapatoni will say it was his inspired substitution.

I've got a better first touch than Sammon!
After 5 minutes Wes was already motm.
A very good performance from Green, just what was needed at CM, he definitely benefits from having somebody like Wes around and was always on to try and make something happen (within his limits of course).
Disappointing deliveries from Brady and set pieces were in the main abysmal.
Good defending from their corners and 2 debuts caps. Not bad, not great.
The moral of the story is we need Hoolahan
Docs friend got MOTM
Forde, a very good shot stopper but those kick outs in the first half were criminal.
I want Westwood back.
That just ruined my night and possibly my life :(
Absolutely dire stuff from Ireland but somehow we never looked like conceding outside of high-roller David Forde's dices with death. The back four are useless with the ball at their feet (Cunningham gets a passing mark) but defensively they looked quite assured and organised, a couple of dodgy onsides notwithstanding.
McClean was gash - he has completely lost the ability to cross the ball. Brady was quite enough but showed flashes of what he can do, but his set pieces were poor too. Was Whelan playing? McCarthy didn't do much wrong but barely touched the ball for the time he was on the pitch. Green was super, man of the match for me. Hoolahan and Hendrick look the part too but tougher challenges await.
Sammon looked very good in the first half, even showing some flashes of good technique, which duly went to crap in the second half. He's probably better at holding the ball up than Walters but has a McClean like tendency to chase the ball like a dog chasing a tennis ball and winds up tripping over people. Long seemed to be injured.

Charlie,
Are you referring to the game or the image of Stu's DIY work?
Its not like i got you pregnant...
Was glimpsing this game from work more so than watching it attentively but was actually quite impressed with some of the displays if not the overall approach. Ive recorded the game so will watch it in greater detail when i get home. I think 2-0 against Poland is a decent result.
Missed the game 2nite. Anyone able to do player ratings with a brief comment? Thanks in advance
So whats the run down? How did they look today?
One of you heavy hitters do some ratings!
Had work this eve so missed the game but was pleasantly surprised to see the result upon getting out. I can't find any highlights on 101GreatGoals at the minute. Anyone know where I might find some decent ones? My IrishTorrents account doesn't seem to be active any longer either, for some reason. Do they deactivate it on you after a certain period of disuse? Was hoping I'd get the full game on there...
Just found the goals on YouTube.
Clark's:

Delighted for him as things haven't been going so well for him at club level of late.
And Hoolahan's:

Well-spotted from Hendrick and majestic stuff to slot it past Boruc. Polish defending was all over the place, for both goals.
Haven't a hope of beating either one. Ireland were pathetic toninght. Hoolahan was th eonly one who brought a measure of technical skill to the game. Thought we'd have got more out of McLean and McCarthy was decent on the ball. Did little wrong but wasn't involved enough. Back four are poison. It's more of the same hoof ball. Sweden will kill us and we'll go demoralised to Vienna and lose to a late goal there.
There is hope for the future however in our U-21's

Wessi's goal, I think much credit goes to Hendrick for his control vision and great pass.
Barcelona in green!!
Cheers!
Good grief; Forde's kicking certainly hasn't improved since he left Derry. Was that a mis-kick or did he think Ireland were in white and red?! Rather fortunate not to have conceded from it. Great stop from him in the 37th minute, mind, and fair play denying Lewandowski clean-through. Lewandowski really should have scored. Worrying to see the defence caught like that.

Sammon looks a little slow, like he was going upstream. A tad wet behind the ears perhaps?
Had a few pints, so I'll just summarise by saying - that was dreadful.
The strange thing was that we were much better against Greece, and lost 1-0. Result doesn't mean anything - Poland should have been 3-0 up at half time. There is very little to be encouraged about, besides Clark looking more competent than his Villa form suggests, McCarthy showing some nice touches, Cunningham winning some 50-50s, Hoolahan's goal, and Brady's set-piece delivery.
Conor Sammon is beyond awful. Worse than Gary Doherty at his most ineffective. James McClean is a cross between Tony Galvin and Stephen Hunt - but with less intelligence. Glenn Whelan is a Wexford League 'B' team standard footballer. McShane did what a man of his limitations can do. Long was anonymous, but probably rendered so by being instructed to play in the 'Keane' position, playing off the scraps of the big, useless front man - when there is so much more to his game. And Forde's distribution is worse than Wayne Henderson's.
So what have we learned? That our most talented international footballer is Wes Hoolahan - who will probably sit on the bench in Stockholm, as he will not be trusted from the outset, as we battle on to self-destruction with 4-4-2.
