What is Limerick's squad as it currently stands?
Very worrying to be honest only 16 players signed alot are nowhere near good enough for prem football season starting in 3 weeks we have one striker ( that's good enough) no wingers or backline is extremely worrying.
I don't know what the club is playing at come 3 weeks time cork will wipe the floor of us as it stands now we will not be staying up about prob 6 or 7 players out of the 16 are good enough the rest are below average.
Gaffney
bradley
gamble
o leary
folan
tracey
Kelly
That's it.
Craig Burns thing to be sorted today according to his twitter.
pat purcell still has a lot to offer and barry ryan is an experienced keeper who isnt that bad.i agree that the rest of the squad is very weak and it does need strengthening soon.its going to be a long hard season.
Craig Curran and Robbie Williams signed today. Currans is a loan deal from Rochdale.
Good good some movement at last hopefully more to come. Anyone know anything about them.
Jesus, Curran's goalscoring record is brutal for a striker. Still good to see some new faces.
Robbie Williams is a good player. Good solid left back and he is good going forward seen him play a good few times. I know Currans name from his time at Carlisle but thats all i know im afraid.
League two players im not convinced they will be big additions at least they are bodies hope they work out.. still need more quality for me but at least things are happening now need a few more in the next few days..a bit worrying to see all signings from across the channel..
He most recent spell was a loan to Chester, 7 goals in 11 appearances is a good return.
In fairness what standard did you think we could attract? We are a team playing their first season of LOI premier in 19 years.
Most signings are coming from across the channel because there isn't much if any quality left around the league at the moment. I'd say you would struggle to find 5 out of contract decent players left in the LOI. Sligo, St.Pats, Shamrock Rovers, Derry and Drogheda snapped up all their best players from last season within a few weeks of the end of last season.
last season we attracted two former senior internationals and a league of ireland premier team of the year member.. playing in jackman park now we are in the premier league playing in thomand park and we are signing league 2 journeymen thats my point and i think it is a fair one..what was the club doing when all these quality players wer moving around getting snapped up?? touting names like phil browne etc i feel sorry for stuart taylor he is in a tough predicament because its fair to say the squad was bigger and stronger last season than now.. but hopefully he can pull a few more signings over the next few days and strenghten in depth!!
Ya former internationals, one who signed from Hartlepool who are in League 1 now. Stephen Folan signed from Newcastle who are in the Premier League in England. Obviously it was easier to attract Gamble and Foley as they are based locally. How do you know he won't sign another 3 or 4 players in the next few days. If we got Irish players that weren't great it would be a disaster and now we attract players from one of the strongest footballing countries in the world and people still complain?
,As I said all those players re-signed with their current clubs or were snapped up by the likes of shamrock rovers within a few weeks. We were never going to be able to compete with them at the moment. We still have those two internationals and a former premier team of the season player in our squad also which shows how strong a base taylor had to build on. we also managed to hold onto O'Leary and Gaffney.
Curran can hardly be called a journeyman, he is only 23.
Danny North -League Two and then conference before coming to Ireland and being a success.
Gary Twigg - a few lower league English and Scottish clubs has been one of the best strikers in the league
Rory Patterson - lower leagues in England and played Irish League, a dangerous striker
Christy Fagan - lower league England and Hamilton in Scotland, one of the best strikers in the league.
Hope the signings work out. Haven't seen any of them play. I can only concur with Jofsprings comments.
fagan/patterson/twigg/north all great examples of success stories but how many have failed?? whats the chances of finding one of the them from players getting loaned and released from league 2 or scottish 1 unless its a young lad coming back from a serious injury and they want him to play through the summer.. all im saying is we wer more organised last season and now we are premier its all over the place and losing to a div 1 team who had 10 men for an hour only compounds that worry.. also faherty signed for dundalk last night we would have blown them out of the water to get a player we wanted..
We have gone from scraping together a team of not even the best junior players in the city to signing people form English clubs and fairly handy English clubs and people are still not happy, wow.
What do you expect Sea Bird? Where do you honestly expect us to get the players from? The fact we have 2 ex internationals means nothing one was coming home from a league one team and the other was as good as retiring and wanted a few more years of football while living in Charleville they were hardly current internationals or anything.
At least wait til you see the players to make a judgement.
Taylor was on the radio this morning saying all transfer signings have been kept private and that there is a few more players to come in yet that they have agreed deals for players in the UK and are just waiting on them to fly over and sign the contract then the club will annonce it. Sounded promising.
Mike Ahern also said from the players he has heard mentioned they are bigger signings from a limerick fc perspective than what has come in already also.
It hasnt been a great pre season so far but i think that its a work in progress.pat scully wasnt a bad manager but his style of football wasnt great to watch.hopefully stuart taylor will have the team playing an exciting attack minded game.give the guy a chance and lets get behind the team.since scully left things havent been handled well and so many bloody rumours went around the place.positive thinking lads and heres to the new season.
Craig curran seems to have been very very impressive at Chester, I wonder would that be equilivant to First Division here?? Even if it is he was still a bit of a sensation in Chester and I suppose he played most of his career in League One, still hopefully we bring in some quality soon
i havnt judged any of them all i said is im not convinced at the moment and the club wer more organised past two seasons than they are now and i dont need a history lesson regarding foley and gamble but at the time they wer marquee signings and a huge statement of intent and i would love to see at least one more marquee signing to give everyone a lift considering how long the wait to get here and you would have to agree we look very shaky as it stands squad wise.. i hope these new lads turn out to be a huge success but its going to take time to gel as a team and time is running out before the cork game and its vital we start well..
According to the radio they were saying if the rumours of what there hearing is true the other players were signing from the UK are better again
i have no reason to be worried none watsoever done well today against a munster senior league side... wake up lads and smell the coffee we are in trouble.. im hoping and praying that this comment will be used after 5-8 weeks of the season and i will gladly eat humble pie.. as a fan i am genuinely worried!!
If youve been following Limerick as long as I have you'd know not to get your hopes up and only belive it when you see it :p.
How can anyone say we arent under prepared with less than 3 weeks to a very tough home game against Cork City, I really hope our first game back in the Premier isn't an embarrasment cause if it is we'll find it very difficult to get people back
Just seen the lineup there and in fairness it was another mix of under 19's and senior players. It would be nice to get a few results in pre-season but I still wouldn't be too worried. Until I see how a full team gets on with a proper bench I won't be judging the team too much. Bluewhitearmy was at the match in Waterford and said despite the result the performance was actually decent enough.
Ryan, Costelloe, O Donnell, McGrath, Purcell, O Callaghan, O Leary, Gaffney, Sheedy, Treacy. Subs Used: Folan, McGann, Rainsford
Cheers.
The worrying thing about this pre-season for me is not the results because at the end of the day results matter very little it's the fact I don't think we've once been close to full strength for any of the games yet which is even more worrying when we've got a new manger in which the lads who were at the club for the past season or two will have to get used to his playing style which because we haven't been at full strength for whatever reason(s) so far hasn't happend yet. (Saying this to be fair without having been at any of the matches) and with the season so close to starting it's becoming more and more of a worry.
I think in the long run we'll be grand, but I do think we can expect a slowish start in the league but hopefully that will be all, not going to start panicking just yet, and IMO it would be foolish to even think about getting doom and gloom about this season
Ryan, Costelloe*, Purcell*, Calla ,O'Donnell*,Coughlan*,McGrath*,O'Leary,Tracy,Sheed y*,Gaffney.
Thats the starting team today the lads with * next to them are lads that will more then likely not be playing come the first game of the season that is 6 out of 11 so again its hardly that much of a guide as to how we will be at the start of the season is it?
We have played a few games and not played well fine yes ill agree and yes ill agree with Sea Bird that we need to have the squad sorted sooner rather then later but the results mean nothing in these games Taylor is brand new to Limerick so has been using these games so far to get a look at as many people as he possibly can which is surely a good thing a lot of lads from the 19s have been getting a chance to show their worth which is what the club wanted for young lads to be given a chance. He now knows which lads he feels are worth keeping around the first team and has a proper idea of what areas he needs to sign people for how would he have known this if he didnt try things out in these games. We have got some in now and more coming we will have close to a finished squad before the Wexford game this Wednesday if what i'm told is true which leaves us with another 4 or 5 Friendlies to play our strongest team and get the team to gel.
One good signing to come very soon.
Care to enlighten us who the very good signing is?
