The point doesn't really address the claim then, does it?
If a sell out means there's more people going to want to watch the game on tv, then I think it's reasonable to say more people are likely interested in a game with a bigger attendance.
Personally, I don't think game attendance has much influence, other than giving an idea of the interest in the game. Trying to quantify if a sell out dalymount or 5k at the Cross indicates more general interest seems impossible.
But, I think the original point that a sold out game should automatically be the tv game doesn't make sense.
You're really determined not to let this go !:D
If a Dalymount game was a sell-out - again, let's be honest, largely because of its crap capacity, you'd be talking a few hundred or a thousand or so max who really wanted to go but couldn't.
You don't revolve TV content around those sorts of numbers of people.
Holy crap there's a conversation about live games and sell outs what is happening to this league I don't know any more.
You've lost me then. So what's your logic around tv should show it? Just for the small number that missed out?
Of course a sell out means more people would have gone. I just don't understand why that translates into it being the better option for tv? Especially when you consider more people may want to watch a different game.
Surprised that there is no live game on tv tonight. At least two of the fixtures jump out as being worth watching on the box for those of us outside the LoI catchment area.
U-20s egg-chasing is far more important. Didn't you get that memo?
The Rovers Dundalk match is viewable on Cricfree. It's continually disappointing that Under 20's rugby takes a precedent on Friday night's like this.
Has it a higher tv audience?
If RTÉ didn't want to show LoI this evening, fine, I'm more surprised Eir Sport didn't get in on the action.
Three Irish terrestrial channels are showing rugby this evening;
TV3: France v Italy
RTÉ 2: Ireland U20 v Wales U20
TG4: Leinster v Southern Kings
It IS a surprise that it wasn't on Eir Sport, wondering what the reasoning is there. I can't ever remember LOI being shown on TV 3, although I stand to be corrected. TG 4 used to show live matches years ago and it was a very good broadcast, would be nice to see it make a return there. According to a recent Irish Times article, the average RTE 2 viewing figures for an LOI match are around 60,000, so it's a good bet that u20 rugby has a higher audience, but the again u20's six-nation rugby on Friday nights has been a staple of RTE2 for many years now so it's unlikely that will ever change.
No live game next weekend from reading this thread. It's probably too late now but Waterford v Cork City would be good one to show. Is Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers next Friday as well?
Brian Kerr saying 'Tagbajooomi' was an added bonus.😁
Enjoyed that the commentators started off with "Hooban" but gradually gave up on it and reverted to Hoban.
On the Sky box listings, the RTÉ scheduled games was Dundalk v Cork City.
