Hi all,
Can anyone explain why the AUL have decided to become less tolerant regarding the colour of undergarments and ankle socks.
I spoke with a referee the other day and he said that this coming season they have been instructed to have zero tolerance regarding these issues. I have to use ankle supports because Im old and have dodgy ankles and I was told I had to remove them and either get ones to match my kit, (which are impossible to find) or wear them inside my socks (which is extremely uncomfortable).
While I understand there’s a lot of Ronaldo wannabes out there with white tape going up half their legs, I still don’t think this should be a concern of the AUL as it is not an issue in the Premier League or any other professional league.
What makes the whole situation more ridiculous was that the players on the team we were playing, each had a different colour shorts/socks combination.
I'll be honest they've always been sticky enough but usually the one they come down on is the old cycling shorts being a different colour - a bit harsh if it is strapping for an injury/prevention.
All I can suggest in your case is two pairs of socks, one under strapping one over in correct colour.
Also I think the main reason the premiership players have all that tape is in some cases they've cut the bottoms off the socks to use proper tennis/sports socks as the "fancy" club socks are useless for providing the correct sorts of support/blister protection.
I had a situation last year with white straps on green socks, ref said i couldnt wear a different colour strap but i could wear any colour tape i wanted instead! Makes no sense! Its also difficult to get different coloured skins or bicycle shorts, i think some referees are sticklers fir rules other more experienced refs are more easygoing, all in all a stupid rule!!
True they’ve been calling people on it for years but they seem to be getting a lot stricter lately.
Personally I cant understand the logic behind enforcing such a rule at this level, playing Div 3 AUL and being told I have to take off my white ankle supports because they don’t match my kit when the team Im playing against have 3 or 4 different colour shorts/socks combinations makes absolutely no sense to me.
Maybe Ill start wearing white socks in future, then it might be deemed acceptable.
