Well given Linfield get handed 10% of the gate receipts from every single NI home international (and they sell out these days) without having to lift a finger, I'd expect them to do a lot better than LOI teams who don't have anywhere near that kind of passive income coming in.... :rolleyes:

They don't get 10%....they get 15% plus..... 15% of TV money and..... 15% of all advertising except...for the North Stand advertising for which they get 50%....not of course counting the other revenue incidentals they get on International days....then add on the monies from hosting the Irish Cup Final....not far of �1 million in the last footballing year.

It's a shame that Bohs weren't drawn in the same Setanta group as Linfield.

You know, a team of "Big Time Charlies" spending money it didn't have to win their League, versus another team of "Big Time Charlies" spending money it did have, NOT to win the League...:p

Helpful clarification Mr Parker.

With that level of passive income, Linfield should be the best team on the island by a country mile. God knows where the money goes, given their team is still largely part-time.

we got bohs and glens, i wanted the blues and derry but what can you do,

never been to see any loi grounds, looking forwards to a wee bus trip to dublin (at least i think its dublin? lol)

Prize money has been (understandably) reduced; its now �25k for taking part. Cork City got �180k for winning last year - winners this year will get half that.

Yes I did actually (as did SETANTA) as Pats were the next best placed team as Bray are in this case. What I disagreed with was the idea that a team should be air lifted in (as proposed for Rovers) contrary to League position. As regards your "best/most attractive team" approach, obviously at the time of qualification Bray were better than Rovers (as per respective League positions)
Hope this explains it to you, most other fans will be familiar with the concept of having to qualify for the SETANTA Cup :)

Pats got it for being runners up in the FAI Cup, as Derry took the de facto champions spot. The UEFA Cup spot was given first, so I'd imagine Setanta went with that.

If you look back you won't find Pats fans touting themselves like whores for that spot either. In fact most thought it was hilarious, even if there was some method to it

The other eight teams qualified virtue of League placings or Cup Finals. However, I think I'm right in saying Cork qualified by virtue of being last season's Winner. Since last season's Runner-Up (Glens) have qualified by being IL Champions, there is no obvious like-for-like replacement.

Therefore why automatically go to the LOI highest placed non-qualifier (Bray) and not also consider the IL equivalent (Crues)?

Normally I'd be happy enough to accept that with the LOI being stronger than the IL, it can justify 5 teams out of nine. However, Bray have performed v.poorly over the last six months, whereas Crues have steamed ahead in the same period, so maybe they merit their chance against Bray in a 2-leg playoff?

It would add a bit of interest to kick-start the competition (imo).

Actually, you'll find that both LFC and the Glens were initially pretty enthusiastic about the Setanta, but recent experience has left them (and the other IL clubs) feeling dismayed and disillusioned by the lack of communication, consultation and basic courtesy shown towards them by the organising Committee, especially Messrs. Corcoran and Hayes. :mad:
This found it's nadir in the double-dealing over the selection of Turner's Cross for the Final last year, despite its not even being finished etc, in what was seen as pretty blatant favouritism towards Cork (not that the extra €70k winners' Prize Money did them any fecking use, anyhow :rolleyes:).
Then after the Glens made it clear just how annoyed they were, they blithely just assume that Cork's place will go to an LOI club, without even informing the IL?

Nonsense. It is not just those two clubs that see the flaw in Cochranes arguement.

The quotes in that piece don't seem to tally with the first line saying that Glentoran are "slamming" the organisers.
