Why bother is exactly the question I am asking myself? Look at our lot-ATFC-and now you guys struggling year after year....... where is the satisfaction in this very slow and I think terminal illness. What do the clubs, fans and players actually gain.
I spoke to a player on Monday night, he was getting £150 with a mid table Div 1 side in 1997 -1999, the same team is now only able to pay 80 euro week and as a result all they are getting are players who join from a good youths team or a young junior club who think great, I'm gtting 80 quid + me job seekers and I'm a professional. That lasts for about two seasons, the player gets fed up with it and steps aside for the next 19 year old with stars in their eyes. Vicious circle. Waterford to Finn Park doesn't look too attractive so he ****es off after a year. We can all produce similar examples of this. Regionalise the tier below the 14 premier call it what ever you like, promote it locally, offer incentives (ie a Place in Setanta Cup ok bad example) tie in with the Irish league Div 1 or something. But defo scrap what we have.
Look I feel sorry for you because there is obviously a hard core who should be commended for getting Limerick back up, and indeed credit to the ATFC trust and others groups who have helped their club's board out, but it's like ground hog day!
