Chronicles of Riddick. Great film. Sure, it dealt in broad strokes, but it looked spectacular and had a remarkable brooding, Shakespearean atmosphere. A world in which Star Wars is taken seriously and Riddick is considered kitsch is hard to understand.
Completely agree about Riddick - much vaster a canvas than a number of doughty trilogies. Dunno that many take Star Wars "seriously" - I'm a big fan, but for the sense of fun and adventure; Empire is well written and has some scope, but it is a popcorn film, and there is nothing wrong with that. Riddick is closer to Dune, and does have some things to say, while being a bit of fun too.
Heaven save us from the continuations of the Matrix or Lord of the Rings - vacuity dressed as import.
I also dislike how so much is read into certain works of fiction these days - I used work in and around academia, and some lit talk is pure piffle.
I don't know about Riddick: I kind of enjoyed it, but I didn't think it really had any grand ideas in it. It's funny that you pick Dune to compare it to. Both Dune and The Matrix are classic hero's journeys. Dune's is told with truly epic scope that no one's captured in the various adaptations, and The Matrix was told with great cinematic style. Riddick just paints by the numbers, IMO.
However, I think the real reason people sit on it is that it takes a wonderfully effective sci-fi horror (Pitch Black) and turns the character from the dangerous outsider who the others need but can't trust into a banal action hero stereotype.

Icelandic Eurovision entry. Make up your own smutty pun. ;)
The Girls Next Door.
It's reality tv, so I really should hate it, but it's oddly compelling....
Having a dump- very enjoyable:)
Professional road cycling. Drugs, blah blah blah. I don't care, I love it
Its still the truest test of stamina, grit and determination in sport for me.
I cant remember who said it - but remember reading that the Tour of France is so hard that you could nearly excuse them all for using drugs, I mean hell they are cycling up the bloody alps!!!!
As I was a member of a cycling team myself I can def say it was the hardest sport i have ever tried - including athletics and cross country running
One of the main hangups i have about it though is that although i can run everyday i cant with cycling - its literally a pain in the ar se:D
"Foundations" by Kate Nash , Great song
Ant and Dec. I like them, their banter is always quite amusing.
Dublin.
As a culchie it's really morally wrong that I like the place so much.
It's days like this the really make me realise why I love it, buskers on Grafton St, everyone in a good humour, the lovely ladies sunbathing in their summer finest on Stephen's Green, bliss. :D
I don't really know a lot about this band other than I think one of Billy Ray Mullet's sprogs is in it, but I instinctively feel I'm supposed to hate them.
However I love Shake It! by Metro Station, it's just a brilliant pop tune.
Was just saying that this morning. Stayed in Dublin Friday night and went shopping and strolling yesterday in the glorious sunshine. Lunch in Powerscourt & shoe buying in Georges Street Arcade & strolling along Grafton Street. Agree, bliss!
On days like this there is no where better to be than Ireland.
It's been said but when the sun shines in Ireland, there's no better place to be.
Watching "boring", defensive football. I find it fascinating.
Watching athletics.
Watching cricket.
EDIT - I see someone else has mentioned it..
