I should certainly hope so.

Is there any chance you lads can hold off on the pathetic bickering so the rest of us can chat about football?
No? Oh, ok. Grand so.
Chat away Johnny.
Who would you like to see come on board, Johnny? Any interest in Hogan now?
I wish I had a teacher in school as demanding as tets. I might have tried harder.
You certainly wouldn't always be doing the nightshift.
If it was just a joke and there was no serious point behind it, that's fine, but why did you persist with the argument back then and why have you been persisting with it even now if you were only joking? The reason I've taken issue with it - even if you consider it "banal" - is because it's another typical example of how you constantly try and chip away at players of ours who were born outside Ireland. Generally, they're decent, committed lads who are delighted to don the jersey and get in touch with their roots, and your suspicions and aspersions characterise them very unfairly as cartoonishly-cynical mercenaries.
It's a strawman because only you raised the notion of "comparing Irishness". You were the one doing the comparing and contrasting of players born in and outside of Ireland on the basis of them using a particular phrase; not me. My point has simply been that you can't read very much into a player born outside of Ireland using the phrase you pinpointed seeing as the likes of Robbie Keane, Shane Long and David Forde have all used it too. Robbie used it in the exact same manner: "All I did was want to do my best for the country and I think I’ve done that." I can find further examples of Jeff Hendrick, Robbie Brady and Roy Keane all using the phrase "for the country" on Google. Why do you ignore these examples?Quote:
It's not a strawman. Comparing Pilkington and Keane's Irishness sums up how you completely ignored the context of the quotes when you compared what McClean said to what Pilkington/Arter/O'Dowda said.
On the other nonsense you've posted:
i) I wouldn't press you so much if you weren't so loose with accuracy or facts and just answered a question straight, but if you don't want to discuss things with me, why are you replying to me? Just ignore me completely. Nobody's forcing you to engage.
ii) Stop making things up about me, as it puts me in this rather annoying position where I feel I have to defend myself, which only clogs up the forum with irrelevant nonsense and, no doubt, annoys other users. I haven't tweeted since early October and I wouldn't even know myself how many Twitter users might have me blocked, so I'm not sure how you would know either. Not that that's remotely relevant to anything we've been discussing anyway. And you can hardly pontificate about alleged name-calling and then engage in the very same yourself.
Lads dont start this messing again.
DI are you off work (again) or something :P
I see Sean goss looks like signing for qpr from man Utd . I'm sure we have discussed this before that he is eligible for us . Any ideas?
How about the new young Villa right back James Patrick Bree...must be something there???
Hard to know if you are joking while referring to Brie as in Brie cheese.;)
Bree Name Meaning Irish (Counties Sligo and Mayo): Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Breaghaigh ‘descendant of Breagha’, a byname meaning ‘hill dweller’, from brí ‘hill’, ‘height’, genitive breagh.
As much as I'd like to get on with my life, I'd also welcome TOWK retracting the accusation when it's pretty obvious he was either mistaken or simply lying his ass off. But whatever.
Brentford are holding out for a £15 million offer for Scott Hogan whilst it looks unlikely he'll feature for Brentford against Chelsea in the FA Cup this weekend, according to the Indo: http://www.independent.ie/sport/socc...-35401289.html

Is he that special ? The standard in the Championship isn't that high. Look at Jordan Rhodes - can score for fun in that league but can't get in the Boro side in the EPL. The latter lacks pace - perhaps that is what Hogan has. Haven't been monitoring his goals so not so sure what is so special about him.

One of his Irish teammates mentioned him having pace alright, think it was Judge. I would have assumed otherwise giving his body shape. Jordan Rhodes is exactly who I thought of when I saw a few clips of Hogan's goals.
I watched him in Brentford's game against Norwich and, alone up front in a team who appear to simply set out not to lose, rather than try to win, I was hugely impressed that he'd managed to score so many as I can only deduce that when the lad gets half a chance he generally must put it away.
That's my one match scouting report. In that game he did get a chance towards the end and only great goalkeeping kept him from scoring. I don't think he'll single handedly propel us to the level of tournament winners but if he's interested I'd have him around.
How's he faring on the Stutts gut test though? I can't help but feel we're p!ssing against the wind with this one.
My gut is for sale in this case. I accept his reasons (injury) to date but would prefer he showed more enthusiasm. If he declares and scores goals my gut will be happier.
Really awkward one for the gut. One can't but help feel the lad has an agent in his ear which is not helping with the humming and hawing in the slightest. Probably the same agent that is keen to broker the West Ham move, as I'm sure there is one.
3 Irish grandparents, an adulation for Roy Keane and a few Irish mates/teammates haven't had the deal sealed so far anyway.
Once the transfer window closes, regardless if he is playing for Real Madrid or Bushy Park Rovers. It's Yes or No time Scott
I can see how some people might like a little time to decide but this cannot be allowed to drag on and on .
If Scott Hogan has not felt the desire to play for us at this stage then perhaps the desire is not big enough .
If his answer is yes . Good welcome aboard .
If its no . Thanks very much for considering the proposal but we'll leave it there and the best of luck with your football career .
Its time to P*SS or get off the Pot.............
Ireland-eligible Andrew Stearman has Wolves ahead in the FA Cup against Liverpool at Anfield. His goal was a first-minute header.
Video of the goal here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/38734592
I wouldn't question anyones gut and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but outside of international windows, the man has no obligation, and rightly so, to make a comment 1 way or the other. Bottle it up til then lads.
Patrick Bamford hoping to play for his country.

"Personally, in four-and-a-half years I'd love to be called up for England," Bamford said.
"That's the pinnacle of someone's career to play for the national team. But of course, I've got a lot of work to do before that. I want to help Boro go as far as they can - there's no limits.
Good interview. Accrington are keeping him at bay so far. We can check in with him in four and a half years so to see where he's at. :)
Tenuous connection with this thread. Tony Galvin interviewed by Will Slattery in The Indo.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Aston Villa are preparing a last-minute £9 million bid for Scott Hogan: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...ott-Hogan.html
Crystal Palace are also reported to be interested (along with West Ham, whose interest is already well documented).
Actually, just seeing that the Daily Star says Sky Sports have been reporting that West Ham have pulled out of the chase for Hogan's signature as Slaven Bilic is no longer keen on him: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/foo...rs-gossip-news
West Brom are said to be keen though, along with Villa and Palace.Quote:

Bottle up our guts ? Hmmm, not a pretty picture. No obligation of course but at 24 you would have a fair idea of which way your loyalties lie. By and large, when there is hesitation, it means there will be a declaration for England on the way, but hopefully my bottled gut is wrong.
Scott Hogan is doing a medical with Villa as we speak, staying in the championship will mean he is slightly more likely to declare for us
What is it, a month and a half since he was supposed to have a meeting with O'Neill?
You can't blame the transfer window because it was supposed to happen before transfer window opened.
And he hasn't played for his team in four weeks so I'm sure he could have found the time to call or text O'Neill.
Yep I agree. Yes or No Scott
The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence
