McGeady article, well worth a read:

David Connolly and Liam Miller --> Sunderland
Worrlying times for Stephen Elliot and Murphy with Connolly and Dwight Yorke bound to command starting places in Roy Keane's Sunderland team.
Murphy more than Elliott I think, and Yorke played the holding role in the World Cup, so it's not clear yet where he'll play at Sunderland
Even still. Can't see Connolly and Elliots starting many games together. A very "Diminutive" forward pairing to say the least..
Jim O'Brien scored 2 for Celtic's reserves today against Inverness, they won 2-0. He partnered Diarmuid O'Carroll up front with O'Dea at the back.
Alan Sheehan has been loaned to Mansfield for a month.

Looks like the Sunderland fans agree with me

anthony stokes is in line to make his falkirk debut tomorrow against rangers at ibrox. probably not ideal circumstances for a young irish catholic to be making his debut!
It seems Darren O'Dea is now Celtic reserve team captain.

His partner in the centre of the defence is Scott Cuthbert who captained the Scotland U19s to the final of the U19 European championships in the summer.
It's a good sign if O'Dea was chosen as captain over Cuthbert considering there's only a few months between them.
Andy Reid started for Charlton, got hurt and came off after 30. Holland on the bench
Carsley started for Everton, his long range effort lead to Johnson's goal
Given, Carr, Duff start for Newcastle
Paddy Kenny starts at Sheff U, Alan Quinn on the bench
Colin Healy started at Barnsley
Colin Doyle on the bench at Birmingham
James O'Connor and Alan Mahon start for Burnley, Aidan Davison (Irish?) for Colchester
Michael Doyle and Kevin Thornton (Irish?) start for Coventry, Doherty starts for Norwich
Cunningham, Delap, Miller, Kavanagh, Connolly start for Sunderland...Elliott on the bench. Kavanagh and Connolly both have assists. Fans are singing "Only One Keano" right now. Miller and Connolly have been singled out by the commentators as being "too much to handle for Derby"
Alex Bruce, Alan Lee, Jonathan Macken start for Ipswich, Billy Clarke on the bench...Clarke has scored
Kennedy starts for Cyrstal Palace, Morrison on the bench
Sean St. Ledger starts at Preston, Stephen McPhail starts for Cardiff, Willo Flood on the bench
Glenn Whelan starts at Sheffield Wednesday
Paul McShane starts at West Brom, Paddy McCarthy starts for Leicester
Huddesfield now have Michael Collins and Tom Clarke (not sure about either's Irish-ness)
Colin Larkin on the bench for Chesterfield
James O'Connor and Sean Thornton for Doncaster
Wayne Henderson on the bench at Brighton
Andy Keogh started at S****horpe
Wes Hoolahan starts at Blackpool
Barry Conlon hit a penalty for Darlington (he has said he would never play for Stan, so it doesn't really matter at this point)
A few sound clips from Sunderland game

P.S. Anyone see how they block out S****horpe
What grievance has Barry Conlon got with Staunton?
Anybody have any idea how Adam Rooney is getting on at Stoke? Is he injured?
I can only guess that Rooney's been injured. AFAIK, yesterday was the first time this season he's even made the bench.
Billy Clarke scoring was the highlight of yesterday for me.
Great round up Worm. To answer your question, Kevin Thornton is Sean Thornton's younger brother & I think is an Irish U21 international. Some say more talented than Sean but a recent quote from Micky Adams recently suggests young Kevin has every bit as much of an attitude problem as Sean.
It seems Kavanagh had an excellent debut:

"best peformance by a sunderland player i have seen for sometime, he was everywhere yesterday."
Most would say the championship is his level judging by his performances for Ireland but he has played well against the likes of Arsenal. Pity about his age as if he hasn't earned a place in the Ireland team by now he's not going to improve from here.
