Cork AUL 2010/11

Well the end of another season cant say I'm not relieved, what started out as a very promising year up Premier A it all seemed to unfold around Christmas with players leaving and injuries or whatever, credit where it's due to Killumney and Greenwood both teams prob deserved what they got and I'd like to congratulate them both on there achievements!

After our game against Killumney our final game of the season our manager is moving on after 15 or so years with the club is moving to take over Castleview Juniors so we ourselves will be wiping the slate clean and starting again to get to where we think we belong playing premier football.

Well done inishvilla, Killumney, Millstreet all the league winners, only matter of time before kinsale are added to that list aswell

Think the rule was changed. If you are not gaining an advantage from the shout i.e. putting off an opposing player I think its play on.

When did that come in? How are rule changes in general passed down through the various levels to the clubs?

But surely even if its two of your own players together, you are gaining an advantage by avoiding the possibility of the players getting in each others way?

Is this like the offside rule? Turn what is Black & White into grey?

Why change the rule in the first place? What was wrong with it?

The "old rule" was ridiculous.

If a player said - "leave it" - free kick against him.
If the same player said "leave it, Jimmy" - no free kick against him.

What if the opposition player's name was Jimmy?!
Which shout gave the advantage???

Frees were given even though no disadvantage/foul was made against the team given the free.
How did this work in international games where the ref couldn't speak either language???

The new rule is more player friendly, and the ref still can use his discretion if he feels somebody is being cute and really trying to gain an advantage.
The game gets stopped enough, this change helps to keep it flowing in my opinion.

Also, the offside rule is better now too!!!
Nothing worse than a goal of the month contender from 30 yards being dssallowed because somebody else was standing in an offside position away from play and not interfering.

I'm no spring chicken Horse 24, but you must be from the W-M brigade if you prefer the older versions of these rules ;)

On looking at different ideas lads how about this?

Premier 12 teams 2 down
Prem A 12 teams 2 up. 3 down
Div 1 2 sec 12 teams section winners up and a playoff between the 2 2nd places teams to go up
Div 2 2 sec 12 teams 2 up 2 down
Div 3 2 sec 12 teams 2 up.
Those figures give a total of 96 teams. This season the Aul had starting 99. Ballyvolane B folded. So maybe 1 more in different sections in the 2nd/3rd to make up the 99. The above gives a teams who maybe dont have a good start a chance to still go up. Also the premier teams not to enter the Aoh till the 3rd round .

not much really to say only kinsale deserved the win,we didnt really have many chances only from long range which we hit the post from one if that went in maybe it could have been different but not to be.best of luck to kinsale fro the rest of the season.park at home next sunday for us for our last game.would be nice to finish off the season the way we started with a win...

You can mess with the numbers depending on overall numbers but you have the right idea Cas. The AUL's argument about 1 up from Division 1 was that you shouldnt be able to go from Div 3 to Prem without winning a league. A valid argument but less valid that only one opportunity for promotion from any division.

Its the "phase of play" section of the offside rule that me, all refs and Mr Blatter dont understand - not the not interfering that you mentioned. I think I may have mentioned it before - the example that sticks out for me comes from Liverpool V Newcastle some years back. As the Newcastle midfielder advanced, Hyppia stepped up and Kluivert was 5 yards offiside. The midfielder swung the ball out the wing to the onside winger, who advanced and pulled it back for Kluivert to score. Goal stood - new phase of play. You telling me Kluivert didnt gain any advantage from being 5 yards nearer the ball than Hyppia? Grey area in a rule where black & white is needed. A controversial rule made all the greyer.........

Ballincollig Juniors can be promoted with a win against neighbours Lakewood tonight in Div 3a. Semi Final secong leg next week also. Strange how a clubs senior team can struggle so badly and yet a lower team in the club can be doing so well.

If you think that was bad Ronaldo and Real Madrid was playin a Spanish league game earlier this year, it could have been Real Scoichad i am not 100% sure. While Madrid was defending a corner Ronaldo was tying his lacers more than half-way in the opposition half. Madrid cleared the ball and ran with the ball to the opposition end line crossed the ball to Ronaldo too score, at no time did he make an atempt to get back on-side, it is debate able if he was on-side when the ball was played to him, the goal stood. The goal could be seen on U-Tube at one stage.

I know the one....how is that making the game better?

Nedge, I have always been suprised about a sport mad town like that did not have a bigger and stronger club like Carrigaline or something. I know every club has its up and downs but Ballincollig never had the clubhouse or whatever. I believe the new pitches are a good set up and I think they can now take a place higher up the club ladder.

The one that bugs me about offside is why can't a defender be deemed to be "not interfering" in a phaze of play the same way an attacker is. That's me wearing my defenders hat though.

@ horse , you wouldn't believe the amount of calls for frees I get every weekend from people who dont know the "leave it" rule changed. that rule definitely changed for the better.

Any results from last night? there is no update on the cork AUL site which is unusual - also no fixtures yet...

Kilreen beat ucc 3-2 innish,so there champs!
Springfield also had good win down in park,interesting finish to that league too!

Anyone know who won the Leeside and Kinsale game this morning?? And how many points to Kinsale need to win that league or is it won already??

Cas heard today ye will have a change of manager next year is this true? Why is Derek leaving? Is he taking over someone else and is Danny or yourself I'm led to believe gonna be taking the job??

Rumours bout transfers all over the place already few of our team being linked with Castleview but that's only natural with our manager taking over there next year, heard he's bringing in one or two more quality players aswell..

Heard all the old grattan team are going back to get the club going again and if this is true fairplay to the lads like shinkwin the sullivans figo and all them

Heard cas yer keeper Crow is off to Leeside and figo also being linked with them, 2 fierce signings if through

Oh and Ivan skillington I heard just may be off to Castleview next year aswell, watch this space!!!

Leeside 1 Kinsale 2 big three points for Kinsale in little island this morning!

You have to hand it to Kinsale, could and should have been three or four goals down at half time today. Instead they went in at half time 1-1 after a horrendous mistake by the Leeside keeper and went on to win the game in the second half.

Leeside must be sick of the sight of them.

Heard a few of those rumours too Mario. Although I doubt the likes of Shinkwin will go back to Grattan to be honest.

I heard quite the opposite, from what i'm hearing and Cas(can you confirm) that you, Dean Evans, Ola and a few other are entering your own team next season in division 3. I heard that you all get on very well from your time with the AUL team!

A hard fought 2-1 win away to Leeside left us top of the table with a few games left. Hopefully we can continue our winning form to get the 5 points that are now needed, if Wilton were to win their 2 remaining games.
A lot of work still to be done though as all of our remaining games are tough.:ball:

Kinsale 14 played 38 points (Blarney Street A, Ballyvolane A, Park A, Wilton H)
Leeside 18 played 36 points
Wilton 16 played 36 points (Coachford H, Kinsale A)

Well not quite a new team but an oldie looking to come back. Maymount Celtic are lookin to come back. Yes I am involved as is Dean but no way is Ola. Have been on to the farmer in Kilowen and has givin gus a verbal commitment to lease the pitch we had, so if there is any budding stars out there looking for a new challenge PM on this

We had our end of season get together during the week end, Ciaran Lucey won our players player of the year and Aidan Buckley won the Club player of the year and our friend Junglejym won the 2nd team player of the year. John O Sullivan who has had the thankless task of managing the second team over the past few seasons won Clubman of the year, well done to the 4 lads.

Happy to confirm that Malcolm Stokes will be managing us again next year as he was no doubt not short on offers, he has integrated himself very well within the club so from the players point of view it was important to keep improving things on the playing field for the club. One game for us next saturday against Wilton, Kinsale march on to another league.
Would nt be surprised to see alot of the Grattan lads return if they they do that ll leave just one other team to go up from Prem A next year, any idea who ll be in charge. Hearing rumours that Billy Cronin has been offered the managers job in Leeside for next season, would the Leeside lads like to confirm or deny?

Big congrats to Junglegym on his player of the year award

Just a question on this new team cas, were you perviously with Maymount before? Will this effect blarney street on the player front? Will some of your team mates be joining ye? I would hate to see another team in the Premier collapse like Grattan did last year.

No wasnt involved witht hem but 1/2 from the old club are . i cant see it affect the street as we will be Div3 so asking fellas tpo drop down 4 divisions would be asking liverpool to win the league next year, aint gonna happen!!! Have been on to fellow norries who maybe arenyt good enough for Premier but wanna play and enjoy so we will take it from there, a few from Bohs Gratts and Knocka have said the be intrested so we will see, wanna come up to the city Inswinger again??????

i would have liked to have seen both. shame if so.

Delighted to see Kinsale finally hit the summit of the premier. Although they still have to finish it out, i think it would take a miracle for them to lose it from this position now. League/AOH double with be a fantastic achievement and would be well deserved. Good luck with the finish of the season Shilts, and hopefully the double will be achieved come the end of the season.

Just saw that now - bad form of the MSL I would say. The AOH is a bit at the mercy of the availability of Turners Cross. A league game can be moved around fairly comfortably normally. I think most neutral cork soccer followers would like the opportunity to attend both games - not to have to make a choice.

Same happened with kilumney,not saying they didnt deserve the title,but they went to pearse at end of april,who had not played in long time!
Kilumney won 7-0,i can promise you that would not happen any other time,cause pearse are a fantastic team,but had nothing to play for!

Mellerick and Lynam have stepped down from Ballyvolane and it looks like another long standing AUL team may be gone! The list of people out there who are willing to sacrifice their own time to keep a club going is dwindling, especially those without basic facilities. With the attitude of some players also open to question they will not be the last club to go in the close season. 41 yrs Ballyvolane have been in the AUL, a tremendous achievement for a club without their own facilities and who have moved pitch on many occassions. These two guys have given over 30yrs each to the club, playing and managing and it is sad to see it come to this but with nobody willing to help out they have reached the end of their tether. A well deserved break and some family time awaits for the summer!

Although I do agree with Red and White regarding it not been the MSLs problem clashing with the AUL diary I'm surprised at Donalinho talking aload of crap. It's not Killumneys problem the other team had nothing to play for in April what do u want them to do, score 1 and shut up shop?? As well as Kinsale what are they suppose to do about it? Not play in the Munster Junior, FAI junior, Munster senior cup, AOH cup and the Mossie Linnane oh I suppose they can get onto the AUL to pull the Oscar trayner team out of it.......oh and you can pass on the weather mans number if u know him to us all too

Fair enough - I guess it sums up the MSL attitude to the AUL... The poor relation that should be ignored, who cares if the potentially biggest league game of the MSL season clashes with the biggest AUL cup game of the season.
I think you'd be surprised though there will be a lot of neutrals will go to the AOH cup final though. But my point was that football fans in Cork would like the opportunity to see both games and that a league game is more easily arranged than a Turners Cross fixture. If for example a Wilton v Kinsale league game with the title on the line was clashing with the Beamish Cup final I would like to think the AUL would consider re-arranging the fixture.
