BTW that suggestion of a 22 team single division doesn't seem all that hair-brained now
.Quote:
It's not a suggestion, it's a highly likely proposition. Officials at 3 clubs have said it to me. At the moment only one club looks like getting a full licence next year. Although the other rumour doing the rounds is that they'll bottle it again and use Genesis as an excuse to bring it in in 2007
So it'll be a 22 team first division- everyone gets relegated! Once again Harps show the way by embracing the future before anyone else. :D
Seriously though, if they're* going to do it they should do it next year, it'll make a joke of next season if everyone knows it's totally meaningless!
*- By 'they' I mean our clubs as they run the eL. That's the scary part.
At last, someone with their head screwed on regarding the situation.Quote:

I think that in itself says something.
What do you mean newsworthy? I mentioned this in the context of a discussion about security with Rovers in Belfield Park. I haven't reported it to the FAI, media, clubs etc. My point is, there is a problem with you, Rovers or the Irish game as a whole if you get angry over someone mentioning fans throwing stuff at opposition fans and are insistent in marginalising it in the context of worse actions. Just because worse things happen doesn't make this acceptable. What do you mean where do I stand on those other issues? You make it sound like considering them in a terrible light is something odd. You truly baffle me a lot mypost.
this is pathetic. someone threw nuts at you. so ****ing what. throw them back or give over.Quote:

Throw them back eh? Typical. Why would we sink to that low level? After all, am I not after saying that this is poor behaviour over and over again. This only goes on and on because Rovers fans, particularly mypost are berating me for mentioning it, you won't leave it lie and keep insisting I should not mention this and because worse things happen this shouldn't be discussed. I'm not blowing anything out of proportion. I gave my account of it as it was and said it was an example of poor behaviour by Rovers fans. Was it not? I didn't ask for anyone to be hanged or punished. Why do you have to keep harping on about it and getting angry that I have the audacity to actually mention it? This is typical Rovers persecution complex, you can't say boo about your club without having Rovers fans moaning about people complaining about them, the media getting wind etc. If you're so worried about it, then behave better. If you behave fine then there'll be nothing to worry about.Quote:

From someone who was down there with the Rovers fans in the corner as the game ended, that for me was the pathetic behaviour - regardless of whether anything happened afterwards and whether it was handbags or not, Rovers fans are solely to blame for the *change in atmosphere* so to speak.
But then again, on an incident scale of 1-10, it was only a two wasn't it - hardly worth fighting over at all, lads....;)
That's what I say dfx. I found the incident particularly annoying and disappointing given the context. A nothing game against a team you have no real grudge against. Why would they even do it? Does this not strike anyone as a problem? Not the seriousness incident itself but the mindset of people going to games. There no need for an inquiry, the lads will never be found anyway. I just found it indicative and representative of poor behaviour. There's no need to berate me over it. The same poster John83 was telling me how passing by Rovers fans on the way into Dalymount he overheard two older Rovers fans sadly lamenting over how Rovers are supposed to be a family club and how they weren't happy about the atmosphere at the club anymore.Quote:

Very rarely have I, a usual Rovers fan who have defended some actions on this site, felt that uncomfortable because of the hoods-up, scarves-hiding-their-identity young men (for what lads? If it was a non-event - what were they hiding their faces for? And why were those very same people running away at Doyle's Corner after the match if it was only nothing?) and general, utterly utterly pointless, unjustified abuse at people just standing behind a goal celebrating potentially their rivals going down...
Whether it was nothing or not, I know what *my* lasting memory of that match will be...
Are we talking about the same game here? UCD v Shamrock Rovers last week in Belfield. Not Rovers v Dublin City at Dayler.Quote:

There is no such thing as a non-incident. There was no extreme policing, there was no delayed crowd leaving, there was hardly anyone there at Belfield never mind a reason to do anything and as for last night, well you can see above my opinion.
The crux is:
New Board.......................................Same few fans..........new (difficult as I've said before)policy of banning.................................same few fans...it is not working.
Even *I* could pick them out if they need me to....
What's the story there? Do they have no desire to do it? Don't want to alienate potential customers or what?Quote:

They're simply not seemingly picking out the right ones even if they are banning them....when CHF scored their first last night a can of Red Bull (?) was thrown onto the pitch...........that's ok though - the stewards standing right in front of them, looking at them, didn't bat an eyelid.
It may again be a 'nonincident' to term some people's turn of phrase.....but that's the sort of thing where more serious matters build. No arrest needs to be made so everything is ok, isn't it - by some people's interpretations (mypost? )
It was blatently obvious that they would at least try and 'throw handbags' after the match...and seemingly it was just bubble under the surface - then one steward came along and thought - well maybe we "should beef the line up a bit in front of the Shed"...
I know if some of my friends from college - 'barstoolers' - were convinced enough to go, they wouldn't have considered it a non-incident..maybe because of the unfair criticism on Rovers fans is so great that some people just refuse to admit when we have done something..
I'm afraid to say it with but some people are too engrossed in the '12th man attitude' and can't see some reality right in front of their face..because they were people there last night who either had no intention of being or acting like a 12th man or got distracted by BSC. Either way is as bad as each other. Mistaken/Misplaced passion for the club - they themselves see it as the 12th man, others don't.
You obviously consider it newsworthy as,Quote:

I mentioned this.
Of course I got angry. This "incident" is a non event. I will accept that Rovers fans are not angels, but some clubs' fans take the pis, when making exaggerated allegations of abuse against our supporters. When they do so, I and other Rovers fans rightly, get annoyed. That kind of rationale, got us threatened with a ban from Longford's ground, allows club chairmen to make allegations at matches against our fans who never turned up, allows Cork journos to write unfounded accusations in the media about our fans' behaviour, and allows neutrals to brand all our fans as scum. So yes, we have a right to be angry about it. Our fans will not accept smear campaigns made against us on the grounds of, at best flimsy, and usually, no evidence.Quote:

I admit, nut-throwing is wrong. However, in the list of offences at football games, I classify the offence of nut-throwing, along the same lines as fans swearing, and throwing rolls on pitches. All of which are also wrong. But they hardly warrant arrests, or fines.Quote:
Just because worse things happen doesn't make this acceptable.
When you have witnessed the trouble I have seen at games over the years, you would consider a few harmless nuts thrown as a minor inconvenience, and not crowd trouble as you, and fans of other clubs like yours like to portray.Quote:
You make it sound like considering them in a terrible light is something odd.
How anyone regards nut-throwing as crowd trouble at a match baffles me too.Quote:

On a scale from one to ten, it's as annoying as having someone in Lansdown give out to you for singing at a match.
Mypost, you've lost all scope of the discussion. Here was my initial post on the matter:
That is by no means an emphatic statement of any sort. "Hardly complete and utter rubbish" is all I said. When asked to explain further I gave an account of the incident, I did not exaggurate, I called it as it went. You're trying to turn this back on me but you have made the mountain out of a molehill here. You take exception that I would have the audacity to insinuate your fans are not angels (which is all about I did!) and you go off on one.Quote:

It is not coincidental. Blue was always your colour, and always will be Home Farm's colour.Quote:
