Who passed away?
Yes southern kid , these events put things in perspective , we are all mere mortals at the end of the day regardless of club or sport , all abbeys games off this weekend .
Cracker match this morning between both Newcastle sides this morning. Rover went 2-0 down and then 3-1 down. Lucky they were not 5/6 down. Afc missed sitters and afc should have had 2 clear penos. Rovers came back like the good team they are and won 4-3

Big point for Athea against Broadford yesterday. Broadford have dropped 7 points already this season but now that all GAA is over you would expect them to get very strong again as they usually do.
Shannonside look like they are relegated already, it's been a terrible start for them.

Shannonside are useless. Same every year. Up and down and up and down etc.
Any word on an Oscar Traynor team?
Silly statement. Shannonside were only formed in 2008, started life in the 1st division, won it at the first attempt and went into the premier div where they stayed until they went down in 2016. They came back up at the first attempt again this year. Yes the results have been useless so far, I will agree with you on that but the attraction for players to play soccer in the desmond league is at an all time low in my opinion.
Shannonside along with most other teams across west limerick have lost hugely influential players in the last 4/5 years or more due to not only retirements but a lack of interest or willingness to commit. On top of this the younger players coming through tend to put football ahead of soccer. I saw a post on here a few weeks back questioning why players are doing this. It's down to a number of key issues but from what I can see GAA has a more attractive social life, they mainly play in the summer, in front of bigger crowds and as a whole is better organised within the clubs. Until the powers that be in the desmond league realise this, the standard levels and interest in soccer in this county will continue to suffer. They need to try something to put a bit of life back into the thing and keep it going and the sooner the better. Rant Over!!!!!
There is no team this year.. management team were on place but by all acc there was lack of interest from premier players..
Any idea who was in place for management?
Heard it was Brian Barry and young Gallagher with Noel Murphy ncw and Kelleher Abbey.
Just goes to show again how poor this league has gone. Players don't want to know about extra training/matches even if it is to represent the league. If you went back 10 or 15 years you could probably get two squads of players that would have been interested in playing Oscar traynor.....and to add to it the desmond league won the bloody thing in 08! So the standard of players at that time was well above what it is now too.
Games will hardly go ahead this weekend due to the weather
All domestic games off, FAI games are going ahead.
Just a side note, and I have nothing against Broadford United seeing as they have no say in it, but I've never seen a team so blessed with cup luck. While two of the best teams in the League in the form of Rathkeale and Abbeyfeale draw each other in the FAI, Broadford draw Classic FC at home who are third in the Kerry Premier B.
In the Munster Junior Cup, they drew Athea United at home in the first round and will face either Shountrade of Division Two or AK United of Division One away from home if they beat Carrig Celtic away. Meanwhile, Ballingarry, Abbeyfeale, Glin and Newcastle West Rovers are all on the one side of the draw.
There's also last year's Munster Junior Draw which as I mentioned in last season's thread was very much in their favour.
Again, I know they have absolutely no input on the draw and can only beat what is put in front of them.
FAI Junior Cup 4th Round Draw
Clare/Desmond/Kerry
Carrig Celtic v Castleisland FC
Newmarket Celtic B v Killarney Celtic or Moher Celtic
Glin Rovers FC v Fenit Samphires FC
Shannon Town FC v Ballingarry FC
Avenue Utd v Rathkeale FC
Newmarket Celtic A v Broadford Utd
Ties to be played week ending 12th November 2017
Decent draw. Out of the 6 places to go through to the last 64 it means 5 desmond league teams will have a chance to be there. I expect rathkeale, Glin and Carrig to get to the next round. Ballingarry have a good chance but up against the current holders of the Clare premier and Broadford up against a Newmarket side which has a few Irish junior internationals and did very well in this competition last year. Nevertheless good to see so many desmond league teams in this round and hopefully a few in the next too.

Some interesting results at the weekend.
Ballingarry are really putting heads on spikes as of late, they'd done well all season but had yet to meet any strong competition but wins over Abbeyfeale and Rovers are fairly bold statements and it's great to see a different side at the top of the table.
It's also strange to see that Abbeyfeale are out of both the FAI and Munster Junior Cups, you'd expect them to do well domestically now.
It's probably gone under the radar but Glin have had a great start to the season, fifth in the table and into the fifth round of the FAI.
Massive win for Shannonside against Athea too, good to see the battle at the bottom spiced up. Athea could be glad of that point they got from Broadford yet.
Fairly competitive Division One this season although I feel that Newcastle and Killeaney are the only two who can really go up.
All games off tomorrow except Avenue Utd v Rathkeale in the FAI Junior Cup
Youths beaten 4-0 in Cork yesterday. Anyone know how Rathkeale got on today?
Yes Ballingarry are a breath of fresh air and it hasn't been as easy of a start for them as you say. Abbey away, Rathkeale away and Rovers away would be considered as 3 tough opponents IMO and came out unbeaten!
Abbey fully focused on league now and who have also played a lot of the so called bigger teams, Ballingarry, Rovers and Broadford played already. 4 of their first 5 games played at home if I'm not mistaken?
Rathkeale for me have to be favourites still though. With all their footballers back. 2 lyons, Doherty and Carmody all back from adare and 2 Quilligan's from NCW. Management will have a tough time keeping all those good players happy and will they have any rathkeale players on the starting line up?
Bottom of the table hotting up now. Athea and Shannonside have had some lifelines as of late. Granagh and Carrig with their heads above water for now. Bottom two (Athea and Shannonside) for me will go down but saying that Athea looked dead and buried last year until 4 win in their final 5 games comfortably saved them so Granagh will be looking over their shoulder for next 6 months.
One last thing. Great to see so many Desmond teams doing well in FAI. Broadford and Rathkeale bowed out in the last round to tough opposition, Glin and Carrig through to last 64 and Ballingarry yet to play Shannon in which will be a tough fixture but a possibility to be the third team into the last 64 and who knows you could get an easy draw to be looking at a final 32 tie.......

Munster Junior Cup Fourth Round Draw.
Killarney Celtic or Dingle Bay Rovers vs Ballingarry.
BT Harps or Thurles Town vs Broadford United.
Games to take place on or before 20th / 21st January 2018.
Full Draw.
Also, a bit of a bold prediction from me. I think that if Glin Rovers can beat Galbally away in the last 64 of the FAI Junior Cup and get a home draw in the last 32 that they could advance.
Tough draw there for Ballingarry assuming Killarney Celtic come through, Broadford's prospects of advancing look a lot better.
I'd give Glin a chance as well away to Galbally this Sunday but Carrig are right up against it.
