While I completely agree with the principle behind what your espousing, I think the chances of a 24 year old Championship player getting a call up to the English teamin the medium to short term is very slim especially when he only qualifies for Ireland and England - and remember - his only international recognition came with a call up to an Irish underage squad.

I think Jamie Vardy's journey from non-league player to POTY in England could act as inspiration to lads like Hogan.
And Vardy has a good 5 years on Hogan.
Yeah fair point. Vardy is quite an exception though I'd say? If Ireland offered him a spot and he took a look at the queue ahead of him for England, it's a pretty long queue and there's not many players who can (or have ever) jump that queue as quickly as Vardy did.
There's also Rickie Lambert, who made his Premier League debut aged 30 and his England debut a year later. Also Charlie Austin didn't play in the top flight until he was 25 and, while he is yet to get an international cap, his form for QPR meant he merited serious consideration and he may yet get in. And remember Hogan's career was seriously interrupted by injury just as he was starting to really motor. So if he continues this fine form into next season, he would certainly be entitled to believe he could get a move up within a year and still be young enough to be considered for England duty as he enters what should be his prime goal scoring years. With that said, there's no reason why we can't express an interest in bringing him into the fold, especially as there are likely to be a couple of strikers' places opening up in the Irish squad in the not-too-distant future. In the end, I guess it will come down to whether he has some level of desire to play for us or not.Quote:
