Report here on Blackburn U21s versus Aston Villa. A few Irish players involved. I really hope Drennan can make the next step, but am not completely optimistic. Is Jordan Graham still with us?

Few players making their first starts of the season in the League Cup tonight. Ward and Long start for Burnley against Sheffield Wednesday.
Leon Best starts for Derby against Charlton.
Shane Long starts for Southampton at Millwall, for whom Williams and Forde start and Aiden O'Brien is on the bench.
Conor Wilkinson makes his second start for Bolton at Crewe.
Sean Long and Shane Griffin are on the bench for Reading at Scunthorpe.
Paddy McCarthy starts alongside Damien Delaney for Crystal Palace, with Owen Garvan on the bench. They face Liam Kinsella and Anthony Forde at Walsall.
Samir Carruthers starts for MK Dons at home to Manchester United on TV.
Stokes and Sheridan both start in Europe. Celtic and APOEL are both playing at home and have the advantage of an away goal.
Kyle McFadden making his debut for Norwich tonight as well
Sheridan scores Apoel's 4th in a convincing win. Fair play.
I thought Stokes was ok tonight, not helped by mediocrity all around him. Did ok from open play and pretty decent from set pieces. I'd still like to see more from him but he's better than others that have started for us in the last two seasons.
I think it showed clearly that Stokes isn't a centre forward. He was a real danger when he pulled out wide but that Berget stick was playing out there. Wouldn't mind seeing Stokes and McGeady either side of Long.
Handy enough goal by Sheridan too. It's on the score.ie.
Might leave us a bit defensively vulnerable down one side though, so might need an extra defensive player centrally like Meyler.
Ireland U19 defender Sean Long made his debut for Reading as a second half sub to help them beat Scunthorpe. Along with McFadden of Norwich, that's the two centre halves from Doolin's 2014 side making their debuts tonight.
You might have to sacrifice your Hoolahan or Reid-type player. I'd love to see Hendrick, McCarthy and Quinn and see if they can switch around.
Grealish and Given start for Aston Villa with Clark on the bench, while Dave Mooney starts for Orient.
Stephen Gleeson and Colin Doyle start for Birmingham having been on the bench for league fixtures, while John O'Shea starts for Sunderland.
Alan Sheehan and Billy Clarke start for Bradford in the Yorkshire derby with Leeds, whose Irish contingent are both out of the matchday squad.
Richard Dunne and Brian Murphy start for QPR with Michael Harriman on the bench against Burton, who have no Irish.
Finally, Jon Walters starts for Stoke with Wilson on the bench against Irishless Portsmouth.
Walters has just put stoke 1up
Sheehan just put in a super ball that McLean should have put Bradford in the lead with.
He's really gone off the radar since his failed presidential bid.
Paul Keegan signs on until 2017 at Doncaster. Nice bit of security for him.

Yes gastric. I just posted that in Keegan's thread. There is no need to post the same thing 3 or 4 different times.

Frank Stapleton has returned to football management, as assistant to Ray Wilkins with the Jordan national team
(I swear I'm not making this up)
<EDIT>

Wilkins, 57, will be assisted by former Arsenal forward Frank Stapleton.
Sean O'Driscoll appointed England U19 coach
“The decision was taken under the guidance of JFA President HRH Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, who was trusted by the JFA Executive Board to choose the suitable candidate for the Jordan National Team’s coaching post due to his great vision in leading Jordanian Football towards success.”
That Jordanian FA uses the same PR agency as the FAI.

Brief article on Stephen Gleeson and his move to Birmingham. Anyone know how he is going? He comments on the step up in fitness levels from League One to the Championship are interesting as I never understand fully when you are a professional player, why clubs don't push you that extra step to make the players as competitive as possible.

In other news Carlisle are appealing Dicker's red card.

The fitness difference would mainly be down to facilities I think. You have your occasional outliers like Leeds or Wolves, but generally the teams that are in League One are there because it's their level, and financially that's a step below. The Championship clubs are richer, they pay more, they have better staff, etc and they'd also be used to playing against similar. Same as the step between the League of Ireland and the SPL or Championship.
