Surely he will stub his toe or something?
The bar hasn't been set too high with Villa's recent defensive record. If he just keeps it nice and steady today, hopefully, he will get a good run in the side. Already 1-0 down tho, signs are ominous
Back in starting 11 for Villa at home to Southampton.
No surprise following Bennett's horror show at Bradford.
Conceded a penalty, but suggestions that there may have been a dive
BBC report: "Rickie Lambert confidently sends Brad Guzan the wrong way from the spot, but I suspect we'll be talking about the incident that led to the penalty. I don't think Enda Stevens touched Jay Rodriguez there."
just seen the penalty on Premier Soccer Saturday, blatant dive.
Yes, a dive. No contact made, but a naive challenge at the same time and had the diving player not instinctively pulled his foot away, there would have been contact. I don't think Stevens was ever getting to the ball. My point is he gave the guy the opportunity to dive and gave the ref a decision to make, the ref called it wrongly, certainly but he cant lunge in on such a low percentage challenge like that inside the box.
I haven't seen the Stevens tackle.
There was a good debate on R5 Live recently with one pundit coming out strongly that there doesn't need to be contact for a foul. In particular, he said that goalies are constantly charging out missing the ball but causing the striker to lose control and often having to jump over the dive. They said also that often the "dive" is actually in anticipation of a foul that doesn't happen, not an out & out effort at cheating. I sympathise with these views.
I agree, there doesn't have to be contact, but each case should be taken on it's own merits.

In this case, I'd say it was easier for Rodriguez to stay on his feet, no penalty.
Disgraceful dive.
youd struggle to find any weaker full backs in the league than those villa currently have in there ranks...Lowton, Bennett, Lichaj and Stevens are all horrendous
Lowton isn't bad, decent potential. Bennett and Lichaj are pretty rubbish. Stevens I'm not sure will make at this level but his crossing and attacking has been very good.
However all of them deserve a reevaluation when they play in a team not in freefall who incorporate a defensive system and possess some experienced leaders.
I used to have an Aunty Edna.
Villa sign another LB

Not looking good for Stevens. Loan deal to a championship club perhaps ?
Made available for transfer by Lambert:

Expected but a bit farcical he won't be made available for the friendly mandated in his own contract. I'd be surprised if he got anything above League One, probably League Two given his lack of experience.
loaned to Notts County for a month: http://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/...g-1015389.aspx
Making his debut tonight it seems. Hopefully he impresses and gets the loan extended until January.
After going 2-0 down, Notts County have now forced extra time at Anfield. Liverpool down to eleven men as they've used all their subs and Toure is playing on one leg, Jason McGuinness-style.
He should have had a penalty after a good run into the box.
And Liverpool go straight down the other end and score...
He seems happy with his performance, hopefully he can extend his loan and get first team experience.

Played and booked in a 1-0 home defeat to Rotherham today.
signed on loan for one month for Doncaster Rovers: http://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/n...s-1202761.aspx
Staying at Doncaster til the Enda the season: http://www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk/n...s-1331215.aspx
Continues to get a game in the preseason friendlies. Will be interesting to see what happens with him come the season proper.

I'd be ecstatic if he's worked his way into Lambert's plans, but after being a bit-part player at an awful Doncaster side I would be very surprised.
Always said he was a great player :D
Very early days, i think he is a lot better going forward than covering defensively, from what I have seen of him, and thats obviously the big difference between playing in the premier league and other levels, its your bread and butter and where you will get found out straight away. But how we so need someone in his position right now. Please God with keane there and everything he would work extra hard and keane could give him all the extra help and attention.
The Coventry Telegraph are reporting that he may go out on loan to Sheffield Utd or Barnsley, so we will have to wait and see, but I think Charlie's view may be on the money.

It does look fairly indicative of his (deemed) abilities that he's 24 and only attracting League One interest for a loan deal. Maybe he needs a full season at League One before progressing on some given that he, admittedly, is late to the full-time pro game.
signed for Northampton Town on loan for a month: http://www.ntfc.co.uk/news/article/s...s-2008682.aspx
Back to Villa now after his month loan ends at Northampton.
Four starts, four losses and three yellow cards for Stevens during his loan - Burton, Cheltenham, Oxford and Luton
Northamptons's first game without him was last weekend against AFC Wimbledon and they won 2-0!
