Castlebar Celtic FC

The Castlebar Celtic girls’ U-12 team maintained their 100% league record when deservedly taking all three points against a brave Claremorris side in Concannon Park last Tuesday evening. It was the Hoops who dominated the early exchanges and were three goals to the good thanks to the excellent strikes by the impressive Rachel Lammond, Grainne and Aoife O’Neill. With the superb Celtic defence which was made up of the outstanding Rachel Baynes, Soirse McCabe, Anna Donavan and goalkeeper Allahan Courell who is getting better with every game never allowing the home side anytime of the ball it was clear to see that it was Hoops who were the dominating team. In fairness to Claremorris they never gave an inch and battled hard throughout the game and pulled a goal back midway through half but there joy was short lived after another superb run by the excellent Aoife O’Neill which resulted in her smashing the ball to the back of the Claremorris net to leave the score 4-1 at half-time. The second half started as the first with the O’Neill sisters controlling the midfield exchanges and Rachel Baynes marshalling the defence and it was Celtic who got the next goal from Aalana Scott and she soon added a second five minutes later. The introduction of Lucy Ryan, Sinead Coll, Sarah & Katie Donovan, Chloe Courell, Katie Conway, Ella Moran, and Lisa Joyce showed the talented that is available to the management team and they all played their part in this impressive performance. Claremorris came more into the game midway through the second half and added two more goals but there was no stopping Aoife O’Neill who got the final two scores to leave the young Celt’s 8-3 winners and on top of the Mayo League table.

Good 5-1 win by U-16 girls and Boys U-13 unlucky to be knocked out of the Mayo Cup by a very strong Ballyglass side after extra-time (1-0). Just didnt take there chances but no complaints as Ballyglass were a match for them. Best of luck to them in the Final. U12 girls keep their 100% record going. Strong side with some very talented players.

Massive game at the weekend. Wouldn’t be too hopeful considering the form Utd are in and how they played against us the last time we meet, the number of injuries we have picked up and of course the Ref factor which will mean we will finish with 10 players at the most and a massive free count in Westport’s favour, mind you nothing to do with the Port just what happens with this ref and Celtic. Still a lot of football to be played before league title is handed out.

Big 4 games left for ye,westport and claremoris. A draw might not be the worst result for ye??
Seen a few of celtic's games this year and your right, ye seem to pick up alot of cards, some i have to say baffled me.

I think we will have to win one of the games V the Port or C'morris to win the League

Celtic’s U-14 side made it two wins in-a-row following a deserved 5-2 victory over a talented Swinford side on Wednesday evening in Celtic Park. This victory was built on the splendid defence of goalkeeper James Foy and he was well protected by Thomas Hestor, Mark Benson, Conor High and Ray Loughran and this allowed the Hoops superb midfield of Jack McCormick, Mark McDonnell, Fintan Borotto and Colm Quinn to go forward at every opportunity and support the excellent front two of Robert Fallon and Cathal Hastings. The home side went in at half time 4-1 thanks to goals from XXXX. The second half was a much closer affair and the introduction of Ryan Timlin, XXX gave the home team a much needed injection and they all played their part in this vital victory to keep their side in the shake up for the league title. WIP

Unlucky the weekend v Westport. watched the game and thought Celtic were the better team, however they should of taken some more of their chances but didn't and allowed Westpoet to score a soft goal in th dying seconds, but hey thats football for ya.. Westport very strong in central defence with Horkan and lawless.. all to play for now V Claremorris ??

I didn't know that Pierluigi Collina came out of retirement.

Atrocious performance from apparently the best ref in Mayo/The World. He blatantly singles out players he does not like for bookings. Lets some ridiculous fouls go. Seems more intent on having at least one moment in the spot light per game. I reckon he spends hours each day perfecting his glare. Reckons it can scare people when most just laugh it off. Truly incompetent at the weekend. Mad to give a penalty to Westport, mad to send Alan Mc Donald off the pitch and keep that thug Horkan(?), the striker not the centre back, on the pitch. Turns up late for games then has the gall to strut around the pitch like its all about him. Its like a bloody pantomine when hes around. The sooner he gets shipped off to UEFA and out of the Mayo League the better.

I don`t know what happened with penalty incident he tears in blaring on the whistle then the linesman flags for a corner,
if he thought it was a penalty he should have stuck with it as he wasn`t that far away from it.
Also he spends too much time looking at the sideline drawing more trouble on himself.
He`d want to be told that the game doesn`t revolve around him and it is a sign of a poor referee if he is the main topic of conversation at the match.

The problem is he never kicked a ball in his life and doesnt have the insight into when a challenge is intended to do damage or not. He seriously needs to leave his weekday profession and mannerisms behind him when puts on the black at the weekend. Can you imagine him trying to stare down Vidic with one of those comical stares.

Hoban, my apologies Mr.Horkan. Well I've only really seen him play 2-3 times, admittedly twice against Celtic. I've seen him red carded in one game (not v.s Celtic). At the weekend his only contribution to the game was putting his weight about, pushing people in the chest and trying to hurt and intimidate our goalkeeper, again by pushing him into to fence around the pitch and running straight into him. He didn't look like he wanted to play football and when he was subbed Westport looked better.

All in all, a good result for Celtic, the next game is HUGE! A few suspensions will worry Celtic for the trip south.

Great weekend for the women and girls teams at the weekend. It was started off on Thursday with the U-14’s with eight players stunned Castlebar Town with a 2-0 win, this was followed up on Saturday when the U-12's beat Town 6-1 , the U-16 then hit Killala for five soon afterwards in the second game of the day for all three teams to advance to the Mayo Cup semi-finals. The Women’s team topped off the weekend with a superb 2-0 win in Athlone with the goals coming from Avril Kilkelly and Emma Mullin and can now look forward to an Intermediate cup semi-final.

The clubs U-16A side maintained their 100% league record following a deserved victory over a gallant Claremorris side after a 14 goal thriller at Conconnon Park last Monday evening. In this rip roaring tie it was the Hoops who opened the scoring thanks to a clinical finish by Philip Ruddy. The home side were level five minutes later following a defensive mix up but this was soon cancelled out by great strike from Man of the Match Cathal Lisibach on 20 minutes. The teams were level once again following a well worked home goal. Irish International Noe Baba opened his account after been put through by Darren Murray and this was soon followed by a Jason Hunt goal. Claremorris were finding the Hoops defence of Adam Chambers, Conor Ludden, Mark Howley, Darragh Coll and Sean Conlon harder to breakdown but they managed to pull a goal back on the stoke at half-time to leave the minimum between the sides. The second half saw the Celtic midfield of Colm Quinn, Darren Murray, Philip Ruddy and Noe Baba take control and with the striking partnership Cathal Lisibach and Jason Hunt causing the home defence a lot of problems it was the Hoops who dominated the second half. Three goals from Lisibach and two from Baba showed this dominance of the scoreboard and when both the impressive Sean Keaney and Rhyne Collins were introduced the Hoops were in total command. Claremorris did grab two goals of their own in the second half to but they just could not match their first half display. Managers Ioseph O’Reilly, Ronan and Ger O’Boyle were happy with the teams overall performance, but they know work still has to be done with this talented group of players

Congrats to Jeremy and Mark on been accepted as a founder member of the national women's league. Big game at the weekend. Will take a draw at this stage due to the depleted squad available for this game. Cannot understand how the Mayo League can put a die hard Westport Utd man in charge, with a Claremorris victory this will put Utd back in the frame. What fools are running the Mayo League. They put the same man in charge of an end of season Ballina Town game and he ensured that they did not win according to one of his linepersons that day.

As regards the national womens league congrats on the selection, there is some very good women soccer players in Mayo, will playing in the league mean you can't play in the Mayo league?

No, not at all. But they will be 2 very different squads. The Mayo League squad will be very much for the up and coming young talent as a path to the National Squad as far as I know

Good result last night considering who was not available. Still in our own hands which is all you can ask for going into the last two games.

The Castlebar Celtic U-16 team maintained their 100% start of the season after a wonderful display of football in Celtic Park on Monday evening over a gallant K&K Utd side. This victory was built on the midfield dominance of Irish International Noe Baba, Philip Ruddy, Darren Murray and the impressive Stephen McDermott who never put a foot wrong all evening. The stars of the show were hat-trick hero’s Cathal Lisibach and Jason Hunt who were unstoppable and their link up play was top class. Celtic when in at half time 4-1 up thanks to two goals from Hunt and one each from Baba and Lisibach. The second half saw Utd put the Celtic defence of goalkeeper Adam Chambers whose handling and distribution was from the top drawer, Darragh Coll, Mark Howley, Gary Walsh and Sean Conlon under tremendous pressure but found it impossible to break them down. The game was put beyond K&K Utd once Philip Ruddy coolly finished to the net following good work from Murray and McDermott and both Hunt and Lisibach went on the complete their hat-tricks before the end of the game. The management team of Ioseph O’Reilly, Ger & Ronan O’Boyle were delighted with the football produced by this talented group of players and they remain top of the Mayo Premier League.

Must admit I seemed to have got it wrong about the ref for last Saturday’s game. It seemed he had a great game which was wonderful to hear. I saw Declan’s praise for the ref on the Connaught today and he was correct in saying he was only interested in what was going on the pitch and not the ground like some refs.

It was the visitors who started the stronger and they put a lot of pressure on the excellent defence of goalkeeper Allanah Courell who is getting better with every game, Abbey Waldron, Saoirse McCabe and Player of the Match Rachel Baynes but just could not get the break through. Once the Hoops midfield of Leah Moran, Kate Chambers and Maeve Gallagher when introduced got to grips with their Manulla counterparts, the home side began to exert pressure on the visitors defence. It was Manulla who took the lead on 13 minutes following a defence mix up and their striker was on hand to finish to the empty net. This goal spurred on the home side and the lively Rachel Lammond was causing the visitors defence plenty of problems and she superbly levelled the game on 16 minutes following good work from Saoirse McCabe. The second-half was dominated by the Hoops with Rachel Baynes controlling the game from the back but the Hoops found it difficult to breakdown the hard working Manulla defence. The defining moment of the game came with 10 minutes remaining when the excellent Maeve Gallagher was put through by Rachel Lammond and she coolly slotted the ball to the corner of the Manulla net. Manulla did try to get back into the game but just could not mount an attack of substance and found themselves pinned back in their half right to the end.

He stopped the game to get a guy with his arm in a sling out of the dug out and over to the other side of the pitch. Took 2 or 3 minutes.

The teams went in level at half time as both defences were on top. The second half saw a different Celtic side and once the Hoops midfield quartet of Darren Murray, Mark Howley, Philip Ruddy and the impressive Gary Walsh got on top of their Manulla counterparts the front two of Cathal Lisibach and the excellent Jason Hunt started to cause the home defence a lot of problems and both were unlucky not to get on the score sheet. It was the league leaders who made the break through with ten minutes remaining after Sam Hasting was introduced and the substitute scored with his first involvement in the game when running onto a Darren Murray through ball and the young striker held his nerve to squeeze the ball home after rounding the Manulla keeper. Dylan Ralph was also introduced and he made a telling contribution to this vital team victory.

The Celtic U-12 Girl’s maintained their 100% league record following a hard fought but deserved victory over a very good Kilmore outfit, in what was a physical game, but the Celtic girl’s showed they were up to this challenge. It was home side who started the brighter but found the Hoops defence of goalkeeper Allanah Courell, Leah Moran, Abbey Waldron and Rachel Baynes in top form and Kilmore just could not create a decent opening. In the Hoops first attack the dangerous Rachel Lammond coolly round the last defender before slotting the ball to the corner of the Kilmore net for the only goal in the first half. The Celtic midfield of Kate Chambers and the impressive Maeve Gallagher were not allowing the bigger home counterparts a foothold. The introduction of Aoife and Grainne O’Neill upped their team’s performance and both put in excellent displays. The second half saw the Hoops dominate the early exchanges and they went two up following good work from Aoife O’Neill and Rachel Lammond who played in the hard working Maeve Gallagher who smashed the ball home from close range. Jean Benson, Lucy Tuohy and Anna O’Donovan were all introduced and they all made telling contributions to this vital victory. Kilmore pulled a goal back from a superb free kick with five minutes remaining. But this set back drove the Celtic girl’s on and once again Rachel Lammond was on hand to secure all three points with another top class finish and not to be outdone Maeve Gallagher got her second a minute later that her overall play deserved.

UPDATE

Juniors: Both junior teams going well in their respective leagues as we know, with the Superleague lads hoping to get a vital win next weekend. Poor result in the cup however.

U-18 A: Won every game so far with a limited squad, going strong, top of their group and a win tonight v Killala would be a huge step towards a top 2 semi final spot. Cian Brennan going to Sligo was a big blow. Best of luck Cian! In the last 8 of the Quigley Cup

U-18 B: Losing to Ballyheane stopped a decent run of form, and the loss of Mark Nolan from their squad will be felt. Home to Swinford tonight in the league. Last 8 of Quigley Cup

U-17 A: Will be playing FAI Competitions soon enough.

Under-16 A: Top of the league but had a disappointing loss last week against Ballina. Big game Saturday away to Iorras could clinch the league title effectively.

Under-16 B: Tipping away, mid table. No real chance of promotion left.

Under-14: Lost to Westport last night which hampers their efforts at retaining the U-14 title. 4 points behind with 5 games to play.

Under-12 A: 2 points from 2 games. Still in the Cup.

Under-12 B: 3 points from 4 in their division.

Under-12 C: 7 points from 5 games, a decent return, 2 new young coaches in charge too.


Girls/Women

Juniors: 3 games to play, 1 point nehind Ballyglass on top, but have to play Ballyglass twice. Interesting run in! Cup Final this Sunday too.

Under-17: Different Under-17 season starting up soon

Under-16: Going well, lost 2 games but in a cup semi final. Good chance of winning a second league title in as many years. Very young team.

Under-14: Last 4 of cup, 2nd in the league with a game in hand, 3 points behind Manulla. Another young, strong team with a good chance of winning silverware.

Under-12: Terrific little team. Last 4 of the cup and top of the league at the half way point. 3 clear of Manulla in second.



Best of luck to the Senior Women in their Mayo Cup final this Sunday v Kilmore at Milebush Park

Must congrats the Celtic under 18 b team ..... A fine team and even though we beat them tonight .... we were very lucky. They are a lovely side and play very good football.

A good game of ball tonight and the B team, had they taken their chances, could well have grabbed all 3 points! A big win though for Swinford. Looking good for a semi final place at the moment.

18 A team beat Killala well tonight to maintain their place at the top.
