Hard to tell which way the League will go this season. Apart from Pats, no team has stood out. Shamrock Rovers look awful and Bohs are no great shakes so far either.
Dundalk playing very well it has to be said. I thought they looked decent from the highlights id seen but this is very assured. Or are Shams that bad?
Rovers are woeful, a patch on last seasons squad.
Dundalk are getting the balls down and playing some nice neat football, well deserving of the lead.
Also, games in daylight are just crap for atmosphere.
Bayly should have been sent off as well. Yellow card for trying to headbutt Dundalk player. Only thing kept him on the pitch was that the dundalk player didn't make a meal of it.
Rovers are rubbish. Long balls to Murray (now playing up front) only way they can even remotely look like scoring. Dundalk playing nice football & scored two nice goals.
Rovers going down :p
Games on a sunday are a terrible idea in general. Nobody is interested. People would much rather go on a Friday night. Going on a Sunday afternoon is far more time-consuming and seems like a real put off. Just look at the crowd today, fairly poor. The Louth Derby only had 2,500 at it when usually well over 3,000 would have turned up if it was on a Friday.
Very well done to Stephen Maher for not falling to the ground with both hands to the face after being head-butted. Rovers need to sort that guy out...
Dayos love letter to Rovers/ open broad cast of his application for MON`s job in his commentary on today`s game was hilarious`. At one point after the Rovers player had head butted his Dundalk opponent, Dayo pipes up with a misty eyed ..." theres a shamrock Rovers way of losing games ...in a dignified way ..." (as he wipes away tear with green and white flag) or words to that effect. Even my Mrs, who hates football , laughed away at that one.
2-0 wasnt a fair reflection of the game they should have won by more. Mannus and Bayly both should have gotten red cards. Dundalk played all the football and were well worth the win.
headbutt
Fair play lads - thought we looked fairly comfortable, pleased to see us passing the ball around on the deck so nicely, a big change on the rubbish regime from last year, Rovers looked weaker than I expected up front w.o Twigg and Baker, but its early days, you can only improve on that.
Our first lge win over you since 1997 (incl FD of 2006) a very long wait indeed, so we`ll enjoy this.
Sean Connor couldn't win a game against a Dublin side all season last year and Foster does it in his first attempt, away from home. Something very wrong there!
Interesting to see both Chris Turner and Thomas Stewart at the game today.
I thought that the Daawlkkk played some good football today. Well worth their win.
Looking at it from our perspective, following last year it would be easy to assume that we should have it over them this season again however, that three man midfield really worked for them today and tactically, Foster was the man today. We struggled against Fingal who employed that tactic (not as impressive mind) and we were blessed to win that match. Unless Mutsy changes personnel and plays a midfield partnership that includes a 'ball player' I can see us struggling against them on that form.
We are bad, very very bad, worst back to back Rovers performances Ive ever seen.its not all down to our striking absentees either,no leadership look clueless all over the park.Defo peno not given to the Dalkies, Mannus took Dalk player out it was stonewall peno.Great Dalk crowd sang for 95 mins poor Rovers crowd ,Sunday afternoon kick offs dont work.If this muck continues the manager will be out the door.Id say 4 games max for the Nordy to turn this round its not kneejerk it really is pityfull to watch.
Last season is irrelevant in that the Dundalk starting eleven today had only Cherrie, Kelly, and Burns from last year. Bohs on the other hand have a settled team with some really strong new recruits to bolster it, and most important of all a squad that can stretch to fielding two starting elevens both capable of top three league finishes. It's already obvious that it is Bohs league to lose.
Pre-season I would have guessed that the gap between 2nd and 3rd would be 20 points - after seeing Rovers today, now I'd guess that thats the minimum between 1st and 2nd, and without a big turnaround from them Rovers could struggle for a top four finish.
with all due respect to Fingal, UCD and Drogheda, Bohs couldnt have asked for an easier start. We havent impressed to date. Ill be waiting until at least the first series is over before making any brash predictions about 20 point wins (no way we'll win it by 20 either way). Fenlon has a team to find first.
Rovers looked like they are still looking for a settled team, but any club who can do without Baker AND Twigg are special. The midfield seemed to be overrun and there didn't look to be anything on the bench to change things. Looks good to have Twigg back running only a week and a bit after his op. Should be back proper training next week, according to reports.
Didn't Rovers start off like this last season as well? Granted, maybe not playing as badly as this season.
Pat's could be dark horses this year. Conor Kenna was quietly superb on Friday, although we did give Pat's a helping hand by shooting ourselves in the foot twice. Other than that, it's very hard to call; there's no other team in particular I'd be worried about facing at this stage (especially when we get our keeper and entire centre mid back).
Yeah, they beat youz, I see. :)
5 points from the first 5 games last year.
Bayly is a nut job , main reason why fingal didn't want him
Rovers are shambles though , they were bad against us and even worse yesterday
their midfield is terrible , shows even what the presence of baker and twigg did for the club as a team
only good thing for Rovers fans is theirs odds have increased gone from 7/2 to 6/1 to win the league with Pats going from 12/1 to 11/2
Baker? He couldn't get a game with Longford 2 years ffs and he'd be about 6th choice for Bohs.
Pretty much everybody who predicted Rovers would do well this year added that if they lost Twigg they'd be in trouble. They scored once so far; a pretty soft penalty. Haven't looked like scoring since either.
We are just lulling you all into a false sense of security:confused:
We had 7 points from our 1st three games last year wouldnt be wetting myself yet.
