Is there any truth in that truism, that it will all balance out over the season?
Ha!! I do think along those exact lines... I think McCarthy would definately stay in the Premiership if Wigan go down though.
I loose support for Andy Reid the longer he stays a puddin. A fit Andy Reid is premiership class. A fat Andy Reid is Championship. I wouldn't crib if Blackpool go down.
Keano is more likely to get a full season of PL football if West Ham stay up, rather than a repeat of the protracted benchwarming at Spurs, so I'm willing them up.
My wish list to go down is Blackpool, Wigan and West Brom
Wolves would be mad to sack Mick if they go down. He's one of the best at getting promoted!
Morgan knows what he's doing. If they can just come 4th last he'll spend a few bob but not much. A second year of survival and he'll spend a bit more. Stoke are a good example of sticking to a business plan: get promoted, stay up, consolidate, invest.
Morgan won't break the bank to move 5 or 6 places up the table, and yo-yoing between the Championship and EPL is probably the most profitable strategy for a club owner outside the CL qualifiers.
There is no truth in that truism ;) I think you are mixing up poor refereeing decisions with poor defending. That doesn't balance out - otherwise everyone would end up with near enough the same points.
Wigan also have Sammon so perhaps we should hope for them to stay up. I'd like to see West Ham (Robbie will leave), WBA and Blackpool to go down purely from an Irish point of view.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Steven Reid's cameo for West Brom when he came on. Made two excellent sliding tackles and played a couple of nice 1-2's. Could clearly be seen holding his knee after the second tackle but he flew into both tackles and cleanly won the ball. The player we have missed the most. Very unlucky with injuries.
O'Hara and Hammill - sign them up.
No longer odd on ;)
Still a long way to go but they are out of the bottom three, could be back in there next week mind, but there is a long way to go yet, will be a nail biting end of season for the fans no doubt.
"there's very little chance that Wolves will climb out of the relegation zone any time soon" <cough>.
Home to Spurs next, they would take a point there for sure.
They have one of the easiest run-ins aswell. Spurs are the only team in the top 8 they have left to play. Whereas Blackpool still have to play Arsenal, Chelsea, ManU and Spurs.
Although that might not mean much as Wolves have picked up most of their points from teams in the top half :)
Wolves could have won this game 8 - 0 if they could play the final ball. Honestly think doyle should have got in amongst the goals today, he wasn't needed for the donkey running or holding on teh wings, yet he wasn't able score.
Hammill had a good game. O'hara very good, i think he could be the difference between them staying up and not. Hammill and him would be a great addition.
Im thinking of that scene, in that film with Paul rudd, where he then pukes in his face.
Wolves are hardly out of the danger zone. As I stated previously, West Brom only need to pick up a single point at Stoke tomorrow to send Wolves back into the bottom three.
Good result for Wolves though, love that Jamie O'Hara, he's a top class player, good enough for England in my opinion.
Current odds from betfair, to be relegated:
Wigan 1.45
West Ham 1.58
West Brom 2.04
Wolves 2.42
Blackpool 2.96
Birmingham 5.6
Blackburn 7.4
Fulham 10.5
Ten matches to go, looks like it will come down to Wolves and West Brom for that vital 17th spot in the table. Tough to call.
Wolves scrapping hard get out of the quicksand pit.
The competition is primeval down there.
reckon 40 points might not be enough to keep you up this season
excellent game this afternoon, Wolves definitely deserved something from it
Think the referee made some bad decisions, Spurs should have had at least one player sent off, Gallas was lucky not to be booked twice, and the disallowed goal deserved to be allowed

So from the 9 games above they need to get 12 points to be sure of staying up.
Very doabale.
As I said above when you compare their run-in to some of the other teams around the bottom they have it a bit easier.
Not so sure 40 points will be enough.plus last year bottom was always well off third bottom.these will all take points off eachother
That's a dream run in for Wolves, should be hot game at home to WBA.
Wigan 1.33
Blackpool 2.18
Wolves 2.38
Wolves are now third favourites to get relegated....
There is a predicted table here
http://www.soccerbot.com/frames.htm
Unfortunately you can't link directly to it however if predicts Wolves will get 41 points...and get relegated!!
Predicted Final Table Pld Pts
1 Manchester United 38 78
2 Arsenal 38 74
3 Chelsea 38 72
4 Manchester City 38 68
5 Tottenham Hotspur 38 67
6 Liverpool 38 56
7 Sunderland 38 53
8 Bolton Wanderers 38 51
9 Everton 38 49
10 Newcastle United 38 47
11 Aston Villa 38 46
12 Fulham 38 45
13 Stoke City 38 45
14 Blackburn Rovers 38 41
15 Birmingham City 38 41
16 West Ham United 38 41
17 Blackpool 38 41
18 West Bromwich Albion 38 41
19 Wolverhampton 38 41
20 Wigan Athletic 38 35
It predicts 6 teams on 41 point so it's very tight.
One thing you can be sure of, the teams relegated will begin with either B or a W. (probably).
The devil's advocate is quoting stats as an argument? :)
Wolves have proven that they can be a talented team, therefore consistency of performance is the most likely issue.
A live relegation threat has a way of focussing minds on the task ahead.
You can make a judgement call on who is likely to survive, based on who is the most capable. I haven´t seen the other teams play, so I can´t say. All the teams down there except Wigan are climbing up.
Wolves have got O'Hara and Hunt should be back soon. If not the stats, at least the omens are good for Wolves.
Wolves playing olé type possession football to close out a relatively relaxed last 5 minutes against Villa.
well that's a change.
still in the bottom 3 too.
It was a very poor game. Wolves deserved to win but Villa were awful. Foley played OK at right back. Some nice football at times but then gives it way when under no pressure and gets booked for kicking tha ball away right near the end of the game. Never like to see that. Doyle put in another excellent shift when you considering some ot the players around him. Wolves have a few of real dead weights in their team. The amount of off-sides and free kicks into row Z. Doyle continually having to hold up his passes hoping Wolves players would get back onside. Spurs could have done with him today.
can we please get Hammill signed up?! The lads a bit special and was singled out for special praise on some Wolves messageboards.
Mick McCarthy issues UK census instructions (..on behalf of the FAI, perhaps)
This inconsistency with wolves makes me believe they will go down, i said it about 5-10 games ago too and i still feel thats the case.
Look goners on their first half display today. Could be 5-0. O'Hara getting muscled out of it by Neville everytime. Woeful at CB. Badly missing Kevin Doyle as anytime the ball goes forward it comes straight back.
they have lost that intensity that is the common theme of any mick mccarthy managed team. that was the one thing that got them wins. They look championship level the last few games.
Kevin Doyle or no Kevin Doyle, you wont win conceding 3 and 5 goals. I said last summer that mccarthy had to spend on a decent central defender, he never did it. I just don't understand how so called good managers cannot see what the average punter can see.
He got other players though, he spent a lot on doyle and hunt. He needed defenders more than he needed hunt, or possibly even doyle.
I don't think Mick is that dumb. I expect he knows he needs a CB. Morgan is very tight with the cash at Wolves. One of the most profitable clubs in the UK is WBA. Being a yo-yo club is much better business than being an EPL regular. If Wolves stay up he'll release a bit more, then a bit more again. I think that's how Stoke has done it.
Ya stoke didnt go up and down they came up and stayed up, that negates your first point by example.
What centre halves were available though? It's not like Wenger where he could sign most defenders in the world and refuses to. Realistically, Mick would be signing old players or attracting good defenders from the Championship, and that's pretty much what he's already got.
Wolves winning 1:0 at the half time, that takes them out of the bottom 3.
Only Stephen Ward playing.
Any reason why Foley isn't playing? Did he want a bigger back four or something?
