You want to tread carefully lad.To accuse a player of trying to hurt other players is not very wise, and for people taking a shine to players someone from the irish junior league must of taking a shine to davy ,cas he wouldn't get in to peters stongest eleven never mind ireland.
Heard crazy kids is booked out so guess we'll be seeing you all at the Willlow match!
bit harsh on benny, 15 mins of fame don`t think so, very bad shout! as for davy fair play to him, but ur the man that brought, people/organisations havin a shine for players nough said i do think!!
Lads,
Credit to Davy Donoghue on getting his Irish Junior Cap!!
Great to see an Athlone Local been recognised on the International Stage!!
Maybe my next comment may sound harsh but it is not meant to be... i think there are better players around Athlone / CCFL that could or should be capped!!!
People have said to me that players that have played LOI cannot be capped at this level but this is untrue!! Stephen Yeates (ex Athlone to name one club he played for <RIP> was capped after playing LOI ) & Seamus Crowe (ex Galway and who also played with Wolves before been capped <still in the squads>)!!!
Let hope another good FAI Junior cup run for Willow / St Peters will mean more recognition for Locals!!!
Simplesimons,
Why could Tony O Sullivan not achieve anything with St.Peters?
Just as this has been mentioned a few times in different posts over the last few days!!
Regards Davy Donoghue..
Credit has to be given on Davy been capped at International Level!!
Great to see a Local from Athlone been capped!!
My next comment might seem harsh but is not intended to be lads,
there are better local players in Athlone at the moment in my opinion & lets hope they get a chance also in the next few years. (this is not a dig @ Davy in anyway).
Who was capped @ Garda? @ Irish Colleges?
I have been away working from Athlone for years & only back a few weeks so need some information!!
Thanks
Sorry for mentioning Davy on 2 posts!!
I lost my Internet Connection thus thought my 1st Post was lost!!!
dont mind jibbing but a quote like that comon.Six is the age when we get them started at willow and it seems to be working best underage teams in the town bowds well for the future.u cant be living off just your ccfl side alone u have to be bringing home silverware from u10s right up to your senior teams thats what u call a sucessfull club in my eyes, but what would i know im only six!!!
I think the guards International was Mark sherlock..and think peters have a few colleges internationals..rushe,silke,alan kelly,Was not aware of that rule about players could play LOI football and get on Irish junior panal.Well done to davy.
Talking about underage i heard that willow and peters actually formed a team together between 85 and 87 but management fell out so it fell by the wayside. They reached the all ireland u14s finals in 86 but were beaten by cerry orcaird in extra time.Just to give the team a shout,b rafferty,i keirnan,g hegerty,c frawley,a mullally,t carberry(rip),c molone,f nugent,t o sullivan,d walters,v mullins,r parkes,h carolan,d dowling.Sorry if i left anyone out dont have all the facts.About my earlier post regarding davy,i was a bit harsh and didn't mean any badness by it,it was only a jib.Davy is a good lad and a good footballer.
just wonderin who won between willow and peters 2day could`nt make it down??
3-2 to willow afte extra time, peters had a man sent off at the start of extra time and were fecked
Hopefully we can put the whole willow/peters bickering behind us now and have a ccfl thread now!
on another note im sick of ****e referees who stand on the halfway line and cant be bothered to move there arse making decisions from there!theres some shocking referees out there, its a crime taking money of players after what we suffered today!
Stephen Mullan sent off.
Ref, and lino were an absolute digrace. I wouldnt let them referee a subetto game!
Even at one stage the ball went out for a throw ... ref looked at the lino, lino stood still, ref kept asking him which way, lino hadnt a clue and was waiting for the ref to call it before flagging. Took about 20 seconds of shoulder shrugging and tryin to see who shouted loudest before they made the decision ... and even at that they gave it the wrong way!!!
In other CCFL news ...
Division 3B
Monksland United B 2-2 Lawrencetown [Photos Here]
Gentex 3-2 Moate Celtic
Premier Division ... Derry Rovers v Monksland United A posponed due to an outbreak of swineflu in Edenderry apparently!!!
Another Excellent Football Match between St Peters & Willow Park!!
Could have went either way but i thought overall that the better team won!!
To be honest I though neither side showered themselves in glory.
Willow definately deserved it.
Useless fact #1647:
Of the 14 players Peters used ... 11 have represented Athlone Town at Senior level.
Willow had 5 former Athlone players (2 on as subs)

Didn't think much of the game as a spectacle but couldn't argue with the result Willow deserved to go through. Sending off changed the game but ref had no option. I hope willow can now go and do one better than peters and win the bloody thing and leave the CCFL to us!
I was at the Willow vs Peters game on sunday and it was a really good battle but you have to hand it to Willow they just have that extra bit of class. I think the problem with Peters is they play to many long balls. Willow always try and pass the ball and can be great to watch and i think they could have a really good run in this cup on the other hand St Peters will find it very hard tho pick themselves up after yet another defeat to Willow. Maybe this could be Peters year to win a league now that they dont have the F.A.I junior cup to go for?????????
They will find it very hard to detrone willow going for three in a row.About the game sunday i heard that peters took off there main goal threat when the game was in the balance strange, and played a system to suit the management. Its hard to play and manage dosn't work in my opinion i know from previous experences alot of players don't like that setup.
Controversial!!! :p

Yep, from what I can remember of the lineups Lucas, Craughs and Davy havent played, although Lucas
was briefly in pre season training with the Town this and last season. Other than that: Cabsy, Silky, Scully,
Decky, Sher, Mucka, Rushie, Steven, BC, Paugie & Kellyer have all lined out. (BC came on as sub against Brighton)
For Willow: Ronie, Ga, Craig, Robbie Shine & Showery. Garry McHugh was training with them same time as
BC but cant remember if he got a run out against Brighton.
Yep I have a few ... I'll have them online tomorrow
Pics HERE
Garry McHugh and Dave Donohue both played Youth/21's for Town if I'm not mistaken.
Ash,
Excellent Photos from the Willow / Peters Match!!
Can anyone tell me what happend in the St Peters vs Mullingar Ath game all i heard is it had to be called off.???????
Mullingar were leading 1 nil with twenty to go and had a guy sent off for second yellow. Peters had a very questionable peno awarded (awared because several legit cliams were turned down i'd say) and in the aftermath of the peno decesion, mullingar had three further players sent off. At this point they and their Manager were livid. (their manager didn't conduct himslef well at all) from the restart Peters pretty much scored staright away to make it 2-1 and that that point all hell broke lose. It is alledged that an instruction came from the Mullingar bench to get another player sent off so as to have the game called off. Here is where the confusion lies.
1) one account is the ref heard this and rather than risk a player receiveing a Red card for a tackle or worse he called the game off
2) a fifth Mullingar player did receive a red for verbal abuse. This ment they could not finish with 6 players.
To me this is tantamount to not turning up to a game and therefore 3 points should be awared to SPFC. SPFC would rather not be in this position however.
The ref had a nightmare - he allowed the mullinagr goal to stand when in fact their penalty taker hit the cross bar but scored on the rebound. this should not have stood as no other player had touched the ball.
Mullingar have good reson to feel agrieved, but the actions of their manager both in his demenour and his instruction to have another player sent off to get the game called off were shameful. Controversey follows the CCFL that's for sure!
yes i can veryify that Fr Damo is actually correct. It was unbelieveable alright, It was a very harsh penalty decision on mullingar as very little contact was made and the defender actually won the ball, the ref was blind sighted on it hence the decision and the reaction from mullingar.
I have never witnessed such discipline from a manager or a club official in all my involvement in soccer.

I'm not so sure. The leaue recorded the result as "off". Therefore no result. I guess there will be a hearing as no points were awarded/lost??
In the meantime as no game was played according to the CCFL those players won't be suspened until the hearing is heard and the club receive notification in writing. Normal practice is a player sent gets an automatic one match ban for the next game, any thing above that is in writing. He also remains suspended until the fine is paid. Dunno how much the fines are though........ expensive day out nonetheless.
Yes it was Tony Ward.
In terms of him being allocated big games...... He's the man who allocates the refs in the midland branch!!
The ref's not just in senior league are shocking but in all the leagues, bar 1 or 2 most of them arent fit enough to ref and dont care either!i said a few weeks ago that they should be embarrased taking money of clubs for it and i stand by that after reading what went on at the weekend.
From what I've been told, from a reliable source, the referee did not hear the
order from the Mullingar bench and the match was abondoned due to them
having 5 players sent off.
