UCD A 3-0 Galway Utd. A

All the goaks coming in the second half. BillY Brennan beat Alvin Rouse from the penalty spot after the lively UCD number seven Ward was brought down.
Second from a shot on the edge of the box by Ward was deflected in by, I think, David McMillan ( sorry about that I kknew the answer two hours ago). And the last goal was scored by ex-Longford Town John 'Rocco' Reilly, who winded Rouse with a point blank header into the chest. With both players on the ground Rocco raised his foot and turned the dropping ball into the net with an overhead kick.

The kick off was delayed 45 minutes as the scheduled ref, Hilda MaDermott, was refeeing a game at two o'clock previously. I think some with Galway Utd may have wished she hadn't turned up at all as she let some of UCD's challenges go. UCD's two centre midfielders still ended up in the book.

Alvin Rouse's language is atrouious (like my spelling).

Next match is sheduled for next weekend versus Tullamore Town at the UCD Bowl.

Sounds like a comfortable enough win? Needed that; had started to get a bit tight at the top. Four point gap now back to Galway in fifth.

And Limerick 37 deserved it. Their best players were their forwards. Tracking back, tackiling fulll lenght on the ground in midfield. Picking themselves up and running back up the field with the won ball.

Deserved win. It was diifficult to know who the full-time team was and who the talented players were. Wait a minute.....

Excellent result for us; puts us back in the driving seat. Could do with the prize money this year! 5-0 win for us against Tullamore today - Rocco with three and Nangle with two. Four points clear with Pat's having a game in hand.

Edit - Cork 1-0 Bray. Galway 2-2 Cobh,

Cork away next week, same weekend as the seniors.

There's a few results missing there alright. Friday's programme had the table after 9 rounds with only Pats v someone missing. I'll try and find it and put it up later on.

We've drawn with Cork, Galway and Bray, so I'm missing a draw for us and, I'd say, that entire round of matches.

I think this is right now. There was an error in the W-D-L columns in the programme :o but I think I've fixed it.

The results you were missing were: Tullamore 0-4 Pats, Limerick 1-2 Bray, Cobh 1-2 Cork and UCD 1-1 Galway. I'm not sure who was at home in the games other than ours.

You've Cork and Pat's the wrong way around.

So basically a win in Cork and we've one foot in the final? With three games to go, it'd basically be between us and Pat's. I think we go to Richmond next week.

If we beat Cork and Pats, we'll win the group. Four points would keep us top but it could get close at the end.

The programme table appeared to have a previous Cork 3- 1 Limerick 37 result as a draw. But the foot.ie table is the same as the published results.

Cork City are completing four home games in a row against us. they've won the other three and UCD are starting three away games with the Cork match. St. Pat's and Cobh being the others. Galway are in the middle of five(5) scheduled home games. This was broken with a UCd-Galway back match been played.

Bohs are clearly the best team in Group 1, they,ve beaten Finn harps twice. Finn Harps are in clear second, on points. They soak up alot of wins including 3-0 v. Drogheda Utd. at Utd. Park.
Drogheda are a threat by the fixture list. They play Bohs twice and another back match versus Shamrock Rovers.
Bohs are the best team, but if another club finishes aghead of them, what then?

(It's interesting reading pineapple stu's penny pinching regarding the reserve/third tier Division. But in the past, he was insistent on criticising any fan who enjoyed the League Cup and wished their club to do well. It's a learning curve a suppose, it's good it's recognised and he is more polite towards Irish Football competitions.)

Cork City 'A' 0 : 5 UCD 'A'

game started at 100 mils an hour, Billy Brennan turned away a cross for a corner and a couple of minutes later UCD hit the Cork post, then Evan McMillan was takn don in the box by the cork 'keeper and the Cork player was sent off.
Billy Brennan then hit the penalty against the left-hand post.
The stand-in keeper also made a good save from a point blank volley, about seven minutes on the clock.

Ciaran nangle took controlof the game for UCD and scored twice and Brian Shorthall getting another inthe first half.
Nangle got his hattrick and Brian Shorthall his second after the break. UCD controlled the game throughout and were pushing forward 'til the end.

St.Patrick's Ath versus UCD next weekend at Richmond Park. For another top of the table clash.

Pineapple stu also found out we play Cobh Ramblers 'A' the same weekend as the Senior side play in St. Colman's Park. Senior Sat evening, 'A' Sunday afternoon would be expected.

Really comfortable stuff, even allownig for Cork's misfortune with the early sending off.

To be honest, I don't really see the point of Cork entering the A League. They clearly bring nothing to it. They don't have any ambitions of winning it, so what's the point? Poor team, only 20 people there - frankly, the league would be better if they were kicked out and some as-yet-non-existant team were brought it.

Also, Galway beat Pat's 2-0, so we're seven points clear with four games left for Pat's. A win next week and I think we're mathematically in the final with three games to go. :)

We need five points to guarantee first place. If Galway Utd versus Cork City is a draw next week then we'll only need three points from our games.

I make it that if we beat Pats, we need 1 point from our last 2 games, barring an enormous goal difference turnaround (we're currently +30 and Cork are +5), to win the group.
