It's our first game back. We played practically our main team first half and fringe players in the 2nd. We played them because they're a local junior side and had new facilities opened so they asked if we'd play them. Obviously they're nowhere near the opposition we'll play in Premier and Cook has said that, still good for first game back. Hopefully it'll get us a few new fans going to games too because their was around 250 people there which for a village the size of Coolaney, is good enough;)Quote:

Nice set up the Youths have, very easy ground to find (right by the N11, with signposts everywhere to the extent that even the road signs were sponsored by the club), two pitches, café/bar. Youths looked better than last year (when we beat then 4-0 and missed a penalty).

FINN Harps' pre-season friendly series kicked off tonight as Paul Hegarty's side overcame Irish League Premier Division Coleraine at the Coleraine Showgrounds where a first half goal from Conor Gethins handed the Ballybofey residents their first win of 2008.
Last season's First Division Player of the Year struck on 17 minutes as he fired home after latching onto a through ball from strike partner Stephen Parkhouse to give his side victory in a tame encounter.
Manager Paul Hegarty handed debuts to three of his new signings with Marc Mukendi, Gerry Gill and Sean Williams included in the starting eleven while the returned Chris Breen along with another of the new faces, Cornelius Gallagher were among the substitutes.
Of the new recruits, Williams shone the brightest during his hour, or so, in action as he showed just why he is so highly rated by Hegarty. Still on the books of Drogheda United, the left winger is on loan at Finn Park until June with a view to extending the deal for the remainder of the campaign - on the evidence of his initial showing in the Harps colours, the small pocket of loyal followers in attendance tonight will hope he sees out the season.
Scottish based defenders Aaron Labonte and Stuart Malcolm were absent, as was Gary Beckett with Harps lining out along familiar lines, aside from the trio of new faces in the starting line up.
Harps were forced into an early alteration as Marc Brolly had to be helped from the pitch just four minutes in after picking up a knock and he was replaced by Shaun McGowan. Harps threatened early on in a lively opening from Paul Hegarty's charges with Conor Gethins going close on two minutes when presented with a chance from a centre by Stephen Parkhouse.
The Lifford man shot into the arms of goalkeeper Laurence McCormick from ten yards. Parkhouse then saw a powerful drive go the wrong side of the target before the Donegal side broke the deadlock on 17 minutes. Parkhouse slipped Gethins in behind the defence and he raced clear, beating McCormick with a neat effort that crept into the far corner.
New signing Gerry Gill came close to doubling the tally soon after, but his left footed shot from the corner of the penalty box landed in the side netting while Parkhouse was inches away five minutes after the opener. The big striker met Gethins' teasing corner, but his glancing header clipped the crossbar on its way over.
At the other end, Gavin Cullen wasn't troubled too frequently with a couple of efforts from Jody Tolan the closest the home side came to forcing a breakthrough and as the teams headed for the dressing rooms at the interval, Gethins' strike was all that was between them.
The second half was one of few chances with the most notable attempt at adding the scoreline falling the way of the ever-dangerous Parkhouse whose industrious chip from inside the box dipped a fraction too late and ended in the terraces being the Coleraine net.
Hegarty used the second half to give runs to fringe members of last year's panel James Doherty and Johnny Havlin while Michael Funston and Cornelius Gallagher were also introduced.
For Harps, Marc Mukendi nestled into centre back well while Sean Holmes, Tony Shields and Conor Gethins were their usual hard-working and effective selves with Stephen Parkhouse and Shaun Williams also turning in good displays.
Harps continue their series of friendly matches on Friday night next when they host Dermot Keely's Shelbourne at Finn Park (kick off 7.45pm).

Harps should really have tried to get him on a season-long loan. Drogs started messing about with Dundalk during the July transfer window last year, as they took him back first, before eventually agreeing to let him stay with us for the rest of the season.Quote:
