I saw the interview and rather than self-pitying, he was more defiant (though not aggressively so). The guy's still totally in denial. Which is odd, really, since with his knowing that he had the Leeds job lined up, he could have relented a bit, along the lines of "Well it didn't really work out, and I made some mistakes, but that was because it was too soon; I'm confident I'll quickly get back into football and I'll be all the better for the experience"

Anyhow, it explains why he was so "chipper".

Exactly. I never said everyone involved with leads is a muppet but I reckon every Muppet will be involved with Leeds at some stage

Don't panic....Stan's role will only be the same as at Walsall..i.e. putting out cones, collecting bibs etc.....Gary Mc will see you alright!

Kevin Blackwell deserves no small amount of credit for what he managed to do at Leeds. Most people out there haven't a clue, not a friggin clue, of the conditions he worked under ...and got them to a play-off final doing it.

No silk purse/sows ear analogy does justice to it. Roy Keanes achievement in getting Sunderland up despite giving everyone else a five match head start and Billy Davies taking a terrible Derby team up aren't a patch on what Blackwell managed.

Overall* I agree with that. It was clear, in particular, that Bates kept Blackwell in position whilst he cleared the decks and slashed costs, effectively by forcing Blackwell to sell all the high earners and bring in cheap replacements.

And the moment Bates had got the Shareholders' Register the way he wanted it, flogged off any remaining saleable assets and walked away from the outstanding debts (via Administration), he got rid of Blackwell and brought in Denis Wise. Bates is Godfather to Wise's children.


* - I say "overall", since Blackwell also played David Healy on the right wing half the time. Now I'm not claiming Healy is necessarily top class, but if he wasn't the best finisher available to Leeds at Championship level, then I'm a monkey's uncle. Even Denis Wise was forced to admit he'd initially got it wrong about Healy, by which time Healy was already off.

i was grimmacing when he was criticizing trapattoni's language/culture barrier and he said "we're irish and we're a little bit different." looking at his muppety head saying it i doubt anyone else watching around the world could've come to any other conclusion.

I would be pleased for Stan if he gets the job at leeds.
sincerly hope he does well. He did poorly as a manager with us but he's a decent bloke who was a great servant to Ireland. Best of luck with the job stan

Did anyone read what Stan said on the sun today about trapattoni not knowing the players. What is this joker on about. At least he knows what he is talking about. Seriously Trapattoni is by far and away the best man mentioned for the job and this clown comes up with this rubbish. He may have been a great player for Ireland but is completely oblitering any good feeling I had about him with this kind of muck over the last few months!!
