Terry Dixon

Following meetings with Terry Dixon, his family and his representatives at which his long term recovery and future well being after an unfortunate sequence of severe injuries were discussed, the Player has now left the club.

The Academy striker, who featured on a number of occasions for our Reserve side, suffered a dislocated kneecap, which ruled him out for the entire 2006-07 season before he was able to return to action at the beginning of this campaign.

The 18-year-old, however, suffered the same injury again in mid-September during an Academy League fixture and underwent further surgery and extensive rehabilitation. We wish Terry every success for the future.

that sounds ridiculously painful. gutted for the lad, hope he makes some kind of recovery and ends up playing ball at some level again...

Friend of mine has dislocated both kneecaps a total of 5 times (3 on one, 2 on the other, not 5 times each). The first time it happened when he was about 16/17, about the same age Dixon is now, and the rest of the next 5 years. He's been told be a doctor not to run, jog, play football, hurling, basically anything that involves moving faster than walking pace because anything like that can trigger another dislocation.
I'm not saying the same thing could happen to Dixon, but it doesn't look good for his career. Really sorry for the kid.

hmmm, i just had a feeling this is what it was, when they mentioned his knee. Not that I was any good or anything, but I started to get this around 16 or so, and it kept happening. I had to stop playing physical sports of any kind. I went to a specialist last year as it was being paid for privately, so I thought why not, anyhow there are only 2 options here, the first one is keyhole surgery which after some serious physio has about a 60% success rate - according to the specialist, however i looked this up, and there was nothing mentioned about the op he did on me - but if it happens again its full open surgery and its success rate is very low. The factors of it occuring come down to the ridge that the cap sits in, the physioological aspect like the shape of the leg or the actual hip and how the legs sits in. Anyway lads if this is it and its happened again, it looks like this fellas career is finished, Ive done loads of research on this and stuff and there doesn't seem to be that much you can do when it re-occurs...

Ogba: I can confirm that this is extremely painful. I had a blood clot under my knee once that kept it sliding in and out, so even in bed I had to be careful as it slipped out once and I was in teh room on me own and no one near, not a nice experience, I proceeded to roar the head off me till I was heard, cos you can actually straighten or move your lower leg at all hardly, it has to be done by someone else. Even though I went to 3 different hospitals in Ireland over the xmas period when it happened no one copped on what was wrong. I went to the Hospital in london as sooon as I came back to London, and the specialist said straight away its a blood clot, and thats why its slipping constantly in and out. I lost the little faith I had left in the Irish medical system after that.

Tets, Ya I was told the same, its happend tadhg kennelly and others but that was very late and was a bad injury, when it happens at 16/17 thats when they reckon its more physiological i.e. the structure of your leg and stuff and that nothing can really prevent it. It limits you big style.

Tottenham have released Terry Dixon, their reserve-team striker, after he suffered a dislocated kneecap for the third time. Dixon is only 18. (The Times)
This does not bode well for the young lad. Don't know what it means for his future but lets hope it's not the end of it for him.

According to yesterdays paper he is training with Arsenal and a number of London clubs are after him and Southend are close to offering him a contract and letting him complete his rehabilitation there

Apparently Fulham's Brian McBride last injury was a dislocated kneecap which he seems to have come back from successfully so there might be hope for Dixon yet.

ya i was at that match maroon. Thing is though that was just a freak accident, some people just get it once and thats it...but when you get it at a younger age it usually means its going to re-occur. hopefully though he can see some really good specialist and get it sorted....

He didn't get three though...

It happened me when I was 15, touch wood it hasn't happened since, but in saying that it's never been the same. Freak accident playing indoor footie (well, I say freak accident but when a 16 stone lard ass lands on your outstreched leg it's probably the most probable result.)

Just wondering if anyone knows if he is back playing football at any level or has he finally packed it in for good?? I've been searching in google extensively and the most recent rumour I found was that he was close to signing for Reading at the end of July. Not sure if there was any truth in this
