Very good signing for West Ham and a good move for Connolly. He is definately a good 1st Division player and playing for the best team in that league can only improve his general play and be good for Ireland. He will probably get a high percentage of playing time as well now that Kanoute is gone to Spurs.
Incidentaly, Kanoute has signed for Spurs, so that should be his place in the side pretty assured.
Looks like West Ham are going to have a midget strike force next season in Connolly and Defoe (if he stays).
Don't know if that will work week in week out in the 1st division. They need a big strong striker to complement those 2.
Glenn Roeder commented the other day that he still has his eyes on another striker. it's pure speculation on my part, but Rotherham turned down an approach from 'an unnamed first division side' for Alan Lee.
Could we see Lee and Connolly upfront for the hammers next season. an all irish attack at upton park (and a good one at that).
That was Cardiff City.Quote:

:D
whoops, i guess someone 'named' the unnamed team after i read the article.
The Hammers signed Neil Mellor on a year's loan from Liverpool yesterday.
I would imagine that Defoe (if he stays) and Mellor will be first choice strikers at West Ham.
That said, from what I've seen of Mellor at Liverpool, he couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.
Listening to Radio 5 Live at the moment, David Connolly came on for Mellor and got the winner, and is playing very lively up front with Defoe.
(Latest score)
Forest 2, Mick & Friends 0
two assists from andy reid
He really spat the dummy when he wasnt starting, cos of Neil Mellor.... he laid into Roeder, decent player yeah, but what a fcuking big headed prima donna!
It didn't take long for Connolly to get up to his usual tricks, he has handed in a transfer request after one game because he didn't start, Neil Mellor started instead of him. He is an arrogant little tosser who is nowhere near as good a player as he thinks he is
I do feel a bit for Connolly, from what he says Mellor hadn't even trained with the Hammers whereas David had been there for the last couple of weeks, getting to know his team mates etc....
Having said that, there are ways of dealing with these issues, and threatening to leave is just pathetic.

But thats Connolly all over, his antics at the world cup and his tantrum when he threw his rattle at Don Givens before the Greek game prove that this is not a one-off, Connolly believes that he is the (London)Irish Ronaldo and cant understand how the rest of the world hasn't realised it yet, give me Glen Crowe in the team over him any day
  a sure fire way to get yourself on the first eleven next week.Quote:

coming on and scoring would have made his point without being an idiot. with those antics would you even want him at your club?
What makes his outburst even more stupid is the fact that Schemmel had a go at Roeder a couple of weeks before the season started and was told in no uncertain terms where to go, ie the reserves. Connolly could now find himself in for a long spell on the bench, and he certainly isn't endearing himself to the Hammers faithful.
LOL, typical Connolly - he really does think hes better than he is.
Could make excuses if he was a young player but he been around enough not to be mouthing off on the manager on the 1st day of the season.
looks like he got his way, he started tonight in the cup game and was great, played very well with defoe up front, scored two in a 3-1 win, the first coming from defoe who tapped in after connolly's 25 yard shot had come back off the underside of the bar.
schemmel has been unloaded to portsmouth by the way.
David Connolly latched on to a pass from Damien Francis and finishes in emphatic style on his debut. wonder can he keep it up. if he does he deserves a recall. as much as i dont like the moany fook, i hope he makes it.
I think I would have rather seen him come on against France rather than the Doc.
Will surely be starting against Cyprus I would imagine?
They can't say he's not Premireship class now!!
