bit long winded I know but from my experiences of applting for euro04 tix, If you put in just one application for these WC tix, you are going to have to be extremely lucky to get pulled out of the hat.Quote:

BERLIN, March 31 (Reuters) - Fans around the world bombarded the 2006 World Cup website on Thursday in the final hours of initial ticket sales, with demand already having outstripped supply.
"We knew before the start of the ticket sale that there would be more applications than available tickets.... demand in the last days has been steadily rising," said organising committee vice-president Horst R. Schmidt.
The initial two-month sales period, where 812,000 tickets were available, ends at midnight (2200 GMT).
Some 5.4 million ticket applications had already been made, over six times as many as the number available. About 1.5 million had been submitted in the previous seven days alone.
Tickets will be allocated by means of a lottery at the end of the period, rather than on a "first come, first served" basis, though fans' chances of fully satisfying their wishes remain slim because of the heavy over subscription.
Demand has been greatest for the final on July 9 and the opening game on June 9, likely to feature hosts Germany, the only team guaranteed to have qualified.
Organisers said tickets for a number of group matches still remained, although fans will not know the participating teams until the draw on December 9.
Fans have been able to apply for a limited number of tickets in the first sales window to follow a particular team throughout the 32-nation tournament. If the chosen team does not qualify, or goes out of the tournament, refunds will be made.
APRIL LOTTERY
The lottery will take place from April 15 and successful applicants should have tickets by early May. Any unsold tickets will be available for sale from May 1 to November 15.
A further lottery-based sale will take place from December 1 to January 15, 2006, with any remaining tickets offered from February 1 to April 15 in order of application.
Any last-minute sales will take place from May 2006.
Organisers are promising a further 300,000 tickets for fans in these subsequent sales, taking the total to just over 1.1 million tickets guaranteed for public sale out of the 2.93 million available.
National associations, sponsors, media, and VIPs are offered the rest. Any unused tickets go back on public sale.
FIFA is keen to avoid the areas of empty seating in South Korea and Japan in 2002 even at matches supposedly sold out and will seek to re-sell unwanted tickets on match days.
Organisers said 85 percent of applicants were based in Germany and 90 percent in Europe. Applications have been made from over 190 countries, including Burkina Faso and Macao.
Ticket prices vary from 35 euros for the group phase to 600 euros for the best seats at the final.
I think they'll give preference to Irish tickets to people who have Irish passports and/or declare themselves as fans of Ireland. I'm hoping they do anyway.
I booked a TST-5 already. I'm assuming now that in the extremely, extremely unlikely event that we don't qualify that I'll get my money back? Am I correct?

Not sure if these are correct. IF 5.4 million applications were made and 85% were based in Germany and 90% in Europe, this would mean that 4.6 million applications are German based, 270000 applications made from the rest of Europe, and around 530000 from the rest of the world. The number from the rest of Europe, excluding Germany appears quite low?Quote:

If I dont get TSTs for Ireland this round then I'll apply for an unpopular TST-7 ticket and then deal with trying to trade it in (for want of a better phrase) for Ireland tickets when I get over to Germany. South Africa look in a strong position too (cant see the Cape Verde Islands catching them) and Mexico are all but there already, but competition for TST tickets with them could be much bigger. Shame North Korea arent doing well as an application for TST-7 with them would be a dead cert, as competiton for TSTs for them would be fairly low.

In all seriousness tho, I'd love to get tickets for Ireland matches, but if not will take tickets for any matches I can get. It's the World Cup, it's less than 1-2 hrs away by plane (and cheap airlines go there too), I speak ok-ish German, am in my 20s so dont have kids/house/mortgage etc to worry about, by the time the next world cup is as near, I'll be in my 40s-50s and mightn't be in such a position to go.
In that report 4 or 5 posts back it says that certain matches are still not oversubscribed - so you would be guaranteed a ticket if you applied for those matches. - Its just guessing which ones they are. Will have to wait till the next phase now!!Quote:

I went for the cheapest, cat 3 i think. Been to a few stadiums in Germany and theyre all top class, dont think there will be any restricted vision problems.Quote:

Now and again there are cheap offers to far flung places, but they'll go out of the window come a big tournament. With Europe being so near (you can drive to Germany in 2 days), and things like low cost airlines, the travel costs will be tiny. Even getting around in Germany wont be a problem, as a youth rail pass for the month will only cost about £150... that would get me to any place in Germany on as many journeys as I want.
