I spent 2 weeks travelling around Israel during Easter 1998 - during the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the state of Israel. Got to go to all the celebrations etc in a village outside Tel Aviv with a a family I met on the flight over.
At that time there were no security problems, though I did get to see a small number of kids stone Israeli soldiers in the alleayways of the old city (nothing you didn't see on an average day in Derry in the 80's though :D )
Since then the 2nd intifada has kicked-off and the situation has obviously changed a lot, but since the death of Arafat things seem to improving rapidly in terms of Abbas tying-up a new ceasefire/deal.
Israel was a cracking country. The size of Wales but with a zillion times more history, excellent weather, and really seriously bloody interesting. As someone who would naturally side with the Palestinians, it was interesting to get the other perspective as well (I hung-out for a weekend with a girl I knew in the Israeli Defence Forces, and was there for Holacaust day and the 50th anniversaries).
Very liberal girls as well...... :) :p
In the last two years only one violent attack.....Quote:

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- An explosion at a Tel Aviv bus stop Sunday has killed one woman and wounded more than 20 other people, according to Tel Aviv police and Israeli emergency services.

Flight confirmed...Hotel booked..
Awaiting Match tickets, I believe they are in the possession of the lovely Emma in the Ticket office and will be out soon, with a bit of luck some kind a kind travel Rep will let me onto their bus to travel in to Tel Aviv or else it's the 222 bus for me ;)
By the way....the people that are afraid to get on bus 222 because " buses in Israel are dangauros" shouldn't be afraid because this it kind of a privet bus. You could only get on it in the terminal station, so its very safe.Quote:

Maybe i have this badly wrong, who knows? but it is a rough estimate anyway, I know Peadar will be upset someone nicked his job ;) :D
I was wondering when someone was going to update the headcount!
You must either have a lot of free time on your hands, be a great Ireland fan or are constantly very bored. I'm guessing that all of the above applies to you as you always seem to be very active in a wide range of threads at the same time.
Sorry to read that you can't make it to Tel Aviv this time, I'm sure that Clinton Morisson will be devestated when he hears the bad news!
Since you are very fond of reminding everyone that not only am I going to Israel to support Ireland but I may try my luck with a few of the local Israeli women, I was wondering if you had any advice on how to help Ireland score on and off the pitch. :D
All reasonable suggestions will be considered.
Yes, well i am a student, so i have 24 hr internet access, sometimes leave it on when i go to the kitchen or out, ooops! I would love to be going so i thought that by helping out, i woud make some sort of a contribution
I have told Clinty already that I won't be there to watch his sweet ass run around the pitch :( he was upset, but i'll be waiting for him :D
As for chatting up the chicks, well, no worrries, once they hear that sweet melody of a Lisburn accent, they'll be dropping at your feet :D ;)
