Much as yourself, growing up in Manchester nearly all of my friends were 2g Irish, though I cannot think of one example where a parent came from Dublin - they all hailed from the country. It would be interesting to know the demographics of emmigration during this period and I suspect you are right that Dubs didn't do it on quite the same scale. This could in part explain the lack of appreciation from some Dubs on the diaspora, 2G issue etc...
On the other hand however, the % of dubs (as a % of the overall attendance) attending games at Lansdowne Rd will be very high say 60-70%?? - If someone is going to make a smart arse comment, law of averages says it will be a Dub.
Since attending Ireland matches from the early 90's, I've made numerous friends, in the main these have been Dubs or fellow 2G lads. The Dubs I've met have become some of the greatest friends you could wish for and are more than aware of what being 2G is all about and respect the fact.
