Half way through the mist.....not sure what to make of it so far.
Watched two movies back to back last night, first up was John Q, a good Denzel Washington movie about a man trying everything to get his son on a heart donar's list after he realises he has been screwed by his insurance company. One criticism would be SPOILER: a bit of a Hollywood ending, but sure we need that sometimes I guess.
Then we went on to The Colour Purple, haven't watched it in years so wanted to revisit it and it's still a very powerful movie. Great performances from Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey and especially Whoopi Goldberg. If you haven't watched I'd recommend it in an instant
Quantum of Solace....thoroughly enjoyed it...despite all the bad reviews.
has anyone seen a movie called "adam and paul".
storyline is about two dublin junkies stumbling through a drug hazed existence, going from one bad situ to another...very dark comedy, with ending probably somewhat true to life but extemely sad...one of the main actors sadly passed away this year from cancer in his mid thirties.an excellent actor.film is a few years old ,but if you haven't seen it, try to!!!
i seen that film Buzzer. It is extremely dark alright but still worth a look.
Watched Hancock with the kids last weekend. Wasnt as enjoyable as I thought it would be but they loved it. It was ok but so easy to know what was gonna happen next. Perfect for the drink addled mind but since have been off the booze for weeks I just found it dull.
Watched Die Hard 2 last night and its still great.
Speaking of old movies. Last night, I flicked onto Sky Movies and Jaws 2 was on. Its not aged well.
I forgot about the bit where the Shark eats the helicopter - including the pilot - who was sporting a groovy, Amish Community style beard.
Alas, the beard alone was no match for the psychotic, 25 foot Great White Shark.
Wall-E - very good
The Mist - not bad
Iron Man - good
The Lives Of Others. Truely excellent German movie. Set in the old East Germany circa 1980's.
I didn't like the film for some different reasons.
No opening titles.
Arab shouting 'Yella' during the opening shot. A blank screen. 'Yella' is just 'Let's go' (or 'come on' as translated in the film shortly afterwards) or 'allez'. When I here it as a cliché I start to be wary.
(I don't know an American production where I havn't heard it. When a small amout of Arabic is used.) 'Sneil' or 'Raus' is becoming the appropiate translation.
Topology was all wrong. For Northern Iraq they had that Erg/Hamada stony stuff that's found in the Sahara.
There's a reference to torture from Laurence of Arabia's 'Seven Pillars' at Dera'a, Syria. (Laurence got it up the bum from the Turkish soliders.)
Good production. I was expecting some inspiration. Than at the end Ridley Scott is the first closing credit. I blame myself.
There was a scene where the Stars and Stripes were surounded by three Star of David window frames, that's about as subtle as Ridley Scott gets.
My fear is that with 'Black Hawk Down', 'Jerusalem' the Crusader one where he positioned Jerusalem on a flat desert in Morocco (don't tell Scott about the Temple Mount or the Mount of Olives. What a Dick.) Anyway, my concern is that Ridley Scott may be considered an expert on the Middle East/ Holyland. Jesus.
Kings , very good , having lived overthere for a while I would know quite a few people who would have similar backgrounds , sad but very true.
watched the happening last night with mark whalberg
the less said the better
Quantum of Solace-v poor but slighty better than the first part.
Watched a few now in the last few days
Taken : actually pretty good for what it is.
Saw 5 : havent gotten to the end yet but its fairly poor but has remembered the main reason behind the traps and not just to have pointless gore.
Step brothers : 2nd time watching this love it its very funny.
Resident evil degeneration : looks like a movie length game intro sequence really but i like it but then again i really liked the movies !!!
saw Changeling
Thought it was brilliant
Jolie was fantastic I have to say probably shoo in for Best Actress at the Oscars
A few relatively unknown actors gave great performances
Hancock - very poor. Thank God it only lasted 80 minutes or so. Finished off the mist earlier in the week and was also disappointed. Class ending though.
Oceans Thirteen - what a trilogy, Classic.
Madagascar - don't care what any man says, brilliant film, too god for mere kids
