Season screwed now,Watts is going to Rovers according to the Sun.(Aaron Greene as well)
https://www.thesun.ie/sport/football...r-dylan-watts/
Is this the same Aaron Greene that Shamrock Rovers released for free in 2012 and then goes and pays the player a signing on fee to come back?
Letting players walk out the door and then taking them back again after talking gibberish about others can make a club look foolish. I hope no English clubs find out about this
I probably should be more worried than I am really, in the short term yeah this squad investment is very worrying but when I'll really start to worry is when Dundalk invest in their stadium, training ground and academy too. I'm not saying just investing in those, obviously the team needs investment too but it's no coincidence that the clubs that have split their investments between structure and squad during their periods of success (Man United, Rosenborg, what city are doing now) have fared far better in terms of prolonged success than those that have just invested in their squads.
I've no problem with Dundalk spending all their money on their squad it's theirs to do as they wish with, still stupid to buy back a player you lost for free 6 months ago after him doing very little mind, but thats reliant on a good deal of luck to be sustainable so if I were a Dundalk fan I'm not sure I'd be too happy.
Aaron Greene is a fine man and a fine signing and any posts of mine that intimate in any way that he's a waste of space were clearly hacked.
If he scores the goal that wins them the league the fee they paid will be forgotten.
It' would be nonsense for anyone so say that it is stupid for Dundalk to sign McEleney and simultaneously imply that it would be intelligent for Rovers to sign him.
Is there a time limit on the 'stupidity' of re-signing a player after he has left?
Your claimed confusion and empathy for the emotional contentment of being a Dundalk fan are truly touching
Dundalk gave Oldham money, Rovers wouldn't be giving Bray any so I've no idea what you're ****eing on about here Ez apples and oranges. Not sure how I'd feel about signing Greene though, prefer the look of Coughlan and Galvin from what I've seen this season in fairness.
Rovers didn't lose Mceleney for free in the first place though. It'd be like me giving you my phone for free then coming back 6 months later and giving you a 10er for it back, a bit stupid, whereas if someone else gives you a tenner for it that's not as stupid because they never gave it away for free in the first place.
Please keep up there RH - read the post again. There is no effective difference in Signing-on fees or Transfer fees or Training Compensation fees; they are all payments that are part of the cost of signing a player in addition to any wages or bonus payments in a contract
Of course I don't know the terms of any proposed deal for Aaron Greene, no more than I know the terms of the deal struck for Patrick McEleney. But I am sure that even you will agree that he is unlikely to be coming in on amateur terms.
In any case the good news is that Aaron Greene has experience of winning the FAI Cup
Is this a new rule? First time I've noticed it.
From https://www.derrycityfc.net/2018/07/...-banish-blues/
"Kenny’s son Dean was expected to be in the squad for the visit of the Shannonsiders, however the club confirmed this morning that the FAI have notified them that Shiels junior will be suspended for the game having only served one of two games handed to him in Scotland last season."
Strange one.
The YDC is one of the best training facilities in the league with a number of indoor pitches which can be opened into one big pitch, full gym facilities etc..
Peak 6 are making slight improvements to Oriel and as the chairman has said recently planning options/ plans have gone in and would be a few months before they got word back.
https://www.derryjournal.com/sport/f...eney-1-8553476
There must be something wrong here as Kenny Shield speaks calmly about his disappointment on missing out on McEleney and Kellly
The YDC is decent by LOI standards in fairness but thats mostly because most other places are so bad. The indoor pitches in the YDC are grand for stuff like pre season running and some small sided games but in terms of team training its too small really, the gym is nice too but compare it the UCD's and it could be a lot better and that's all Dundalk have really other than oriel's pitch and the grass one beside it, it's grand but it's not going to have a player from abroad looking at it and going yeah this clubs going places where do I sign.
Shiels talking about signing McEleney, Duffy and Kelly is certainly showing ambition but surely all those man hours would have been better spent on the training ground with a defensive coach while waiting for Peers to come back or Seaborne to sign(he could be a very good signing tbf).
There is a little bit more in the YDC with a medical/physio therapy facility, sports science room and video analysis room. The sports science room is very well kitted out and links in with Statsports, but there is a whole lot more there with biomechanic analysis equipment etc. Video analysis is multifuctional with being part of the video capture stuff for biomechanics and also then tactical analysis type stuff. The YDC gym is basic enough but the club was sponsored by a gym that is fully equiped so no need to expand that within Oriel Park currently. There was catering able to be done there but I dont think meal are done inhouse though the players do have lunch I presume in what was the former bar. Like everything else at the club currently its a work in progress but certainly more than the indoor training pitches and an average gym. Lots of scope for adding to!
All that stuffs fairly basic in the bigger picture, maybe i said it the wrong way but I meant facilities that are too good for this league, all the stuff that dundalk have just now training wise is good, when they move to amazing ill be worried.
They would have signed had you trained in a car park, im talking about players the next step up
Tagbajumi is lucky a club wanted him at all. Hes awful.
Agree on Tagbajumi, total waste of a wage, only good news is he was signed on a one year deal. Not even sure anyone would take him on loan. He looked like he had potential, early away game v Rovers, that was about it really.
I remember that match I thought he looked a handful that night. Is he one of these guys who just decided he didn't want to be here or is he just bad
Heard he didn't even travel to the Spain training camp a few weeks ago, just a case of running down his contract now. Total loss by DFC but that's the way it goes for some (rare) bad recruitment players, most clubs will have at least one every few years, and the player will use it to his advantage of having a full year paid for essentially doing very little. I can't see how he can even play a minor part for the rest of the season.
Cork are on the lookout to strengthen up front - Tagbajumi is the man look at what Maguire did after time at Dundalk!!
