Drogba? Some players peak young, many don't. Long, if he can put his injuries behind him, still has his peak to come. The fact he didn't play an awful lot of football in the early part of his career should stand to him.

I'd love to know where these transfer rumours come from. Sevilla are stone broke and there's no way they would be able to match what WBA are paying Long, let alone fork over the transfer fee.
I think Long has delivered on his promise, Paul. He is a prove Premiership striker and has done well at an international level despite playing most of his international career under a manager that doesnt really appear to like or believe in him.
Good news on Long who should on present form, be the first choice forward.

I think there's alot of HYPE surrounding Shane Long's input to the Irish team and WBA.... Lets be honest, he has not played over a consistent period for WBA for 18months.... his last truly outstanding game for Ireland in my opinion was against Uruguay in Feb 2011....
To be honest, I think he's been overrated for the most part this season by the Irish press....
In that case he's also been overrated by the English press. He has been very impressive for West Brom, particularly in an isolated role against the best sides, but he has been struggling massively with niggling injuries.
WBA v Arsenal the game here this morning. Long won the penalty very, very well. Superb touch that left that pr!ck Mertesacker for dead and caused him to scythe Shane down from behind and get the red card. Very likely Long would have scored had he not been fouled. Has worked tirelessly and has been left isolated for long spells. No coincidence that Lukakus introduction has allowed more success for Longs industry.
Just missed a great chance to equalize with a couple of mins left.
He's got to bury that. I'm longing for a goal from him.
Overall play excellent. Peno was all down to his own good play. But he then missed a chance he should have buried (skyed it not unlike his chance against Sweden). Had another good chance not long after and completely missed the ball (possibly sun in his eyes but still a poor effort). Subbed soon after. He needs to be more clinical to be considered a really top player. Still our best forward IMO.
Anyone see Long goal versus Saints yesterday... did he mean to play it through keeper or was it a hit and hope as I felt?
Don't think he's a natural finisher and will struggle once his pace inevitably goes in the next 3 or 4 years...
A poor man's Craig Bellamy? Too harsh?
i'd agree, I thought it was a poor enough effort that was lucky to go in.
He may have scored 23 in 2010-2011 but I feel he leaves a few too any chances out there to be considered a top quality goal scorer. Sure, there's more to his game and he's a beast to play against but he's far from clinical.
I agree Stutts. He lacks that last degree of finishing or whatever. If him and James McC could get that last touch we would be in better shape.
The odds are long he will ever be a consistent scorer for us I feel like.
His finishing could do with a bit of work, but there's no doubting that this guy is one of the most technically gifted players in that whole West Brom squad.

Hard to say really. He is not left footed is he? Hence I expect he was concentrating on hitting the target, at least that gives you chance.
He also got a man sent off, went down like a sack of spud :)
It looked like a good finish to me. He could have hit it to the keeper's left but it would have been a very tight angle.
