FAI Junior Cup 2007/08

Very unfair comments there on redcastle, if you read back on previous games in previous rounds you will find that Pike had absolutley no complaints about officials at their game against redcastle.

a home 3-1 win to redcastle made me take a closer look to find they only conceded one goal so far.

No mean achievement.

And the bookies still havent kopped on to it. they are still on crazy odds.

of course they can have a bad day like anyone and this competition doesn't forgive that like the intermediate does, but they appear to be the real deal.

one question, i heard a very rich fella is behind them, are the players redcastle have the pick of kildrum and fanad and qps etc?

yes there is money behind them, but they won't have the pick of Fanad players, given the 1hr plus distance between the 2. They will have a few from Quigleys Point I'd say and maybe Kildrum, not to mention being close to the border. A team that definitely deserves more respect than its getting on here at the moment IMO

Are they paying players?

7 or 8 quality players nowhere near enough.

Killester have a squad of 20 that would get into most other Top Junior Sides.

Plus they are defending champions.

They have been known to choke once or twice in the big games in the past but they seem to have put that behind them now.

Still a banker I.M.O.

would tend to agree with the doc on this;maybe an away trip to michaels carrick or clonmel would stop killester but outside of that they are too big a price imo

A bit further south maybe,I for one would'nt mind seein how Killester would get on playin in O'Neill Park against the Gratts down in Cork.;)

dr mad to say killester are a banker is going a bit far imho, i have seen them a few times this season and while they are an excellent side they are not unbeatable, no team wins a cup without getting a bit of luck on the way. They are a certainly hot favourites but i wouldnt be putting my mortgage on them especially not in this competition where a combination of an away trip, hometown referee, bad pitch, an off day and opposition rising to the occasion could all conspire against them

Its amazing where people get their information from.There is not one player from fanad,kildrum or quigleys point playing for redcastle. most are from the area and the rest have moved into the area.Their boss might have money but believe you me he is not foolish with it.Our players dont get paid,full stop.
At 33/1 it might not be long before we are all rich up here.

In reply to the gentleman who asks, how many Redcastle players are in the Inishowen team.Well i have the answer right here in front of me.There was 8 started against Galway two weeks ago and there was 2 on the bench. Against Donegal there were 7 on the team and 3 on the bench. They won both matches.
But that means nothing if you have a bad day.

I simply asked the question, I didn't state that they were, i asked. I suppose I am interested to know where they came from as a team/club. As I said their results have been impressive.

Anyone would love a shot of Killester, and no one would fancy a form team like redcastle who they knew very little about.

I would like to wish all the smaller clubs success in the next rd.We are a small club and its a great achievement to get this far.Well done everyone including the bigger named clubs.A special good luck to Milford utd.

How is the weather in your part of the country, i believe there is some ferocious weather in cluding a storm in the next day or two.

And whats your general view on milford united, they have had a fantastic run and a great win in dungarvin. have you seen milford this year?

:)Weather is bad at the minute.But if weather is ok on sun then pitch shud be ok.Dont know much about Milford.They are donegal league. We are Inishowen league.

forgive me for speaking out of turn here but before i read the posts about redcastle i heard about there team from someone who lives in the area, i had heard that they were backed heavily financially but more importantly had players coming from as far away as derry to play football there, This came from someone who would know there football and seemed to know quiet abit about the league up there and redcastle, so it seems that maybe there are players travelling and there is more to it than meets the eye?? all the same best of luck to them in the remaining rounds, it would be good to see them get killester at home then as everyone seems to talk about killesters great players and redcastles mean defence :D:D

av you any idea how far it is from redcastle to derry. 8 to 10 miles.redcastle have travelled 10 times that distance in the earlier stages of this cup and were still playing in donegal.

On mature reflection of course inexile is right in that there are many slips that can happen, especially in Junior Cup with away games, questionable refs, etc, etc. Also what is a big disappointment to me is that the overall standard seems to have slipped nationally in the last couple of years. I would agree that Killester are not unbeatable and indeed having participated in the Junior Cup for over 20 years I would say they are one of the weakest champions and would not live with the great Fairview or Cherry Orchard teams for example. However, they are a very very solid side who travel well, have 20 excellent fit and tough players to choose from, have 2 of the most lethal strikers in the country in Lacey and Keogh, pace throughout the side, and the way they structure their first and second teams with guys often doubling up means that they are also a very close and team spirited bunch. On the negative side their back 4 are slow and limited (and in some cases overweight) and can definitely be got at. A team brave enough to go hell for leather at them may get a result.

And by the way absolutely no disrespect intended to Redcastle or any of the other “lesser known” sides left in the competition when I still say Killester will win it (and believe me it hurts to say that).

I think St. Michaels of Tipp are dark horses, if Killester and Michaels were to meet i'd fancy Michaels. I know lacey and Keogh of Killester are probably best strickers in Country at the moment but Michaels have 2 of the best Defenders in Walsh and Breeno too. They have a good understanding between them and are also playing on the Junior/Amateur Intl. team aswell so if these 2 were to meet in Tipp i'd fancy Michaels.

If so why are they not top of their league. CT going for 5 in a row. Are St. M a cup side. I know they have a great history and always one of the teams to beat in the Junior cup but based on what you are saying surely they should have won their league in the last 4 years or am I missing something.
