Great effort from Derry, as Stephen Kenny says it like it is:
"One-nil down with 90 minutes left...so were definately still in it. We have our work cut out, but the possibilities still exist."
Congratulations to St Pats on a brilliant win.
Both teams can be free of any fear in the 2nd legs - all that could be asked of either team was that they would keep the possibilities alive for the 2nd legs- they have nothing to lose in trying to win.
Will it be all ticket in the Bradywell?
pats havent conceded an away goal which is huge. now they can chase that and hopefully get through.
That was Kenny's 2nd defeat in 9 European matches - not bad. (for Derry)
any of u derry boys see the game online or whatever? how did city play, had they any chances. hope for the 2nd leg ??

goes along with exactly what i said on the other thread re:cska, when ORA ignorantly pointed out that i wouldn't know the difference between a stuffed or blown up one
Derry had the only corner of the first half and had the best chance in the first half on 31 mins. Sofia were good for all of 15 mins, in the second half. Apart from that, thats all, Derry contained them very well and did exactly the job required for 99% of the game, cska are nothing special - going on that performance at least and are definitely beatable.
I mentioned on the links thread, that they played very well and more than matched CSKA, for pace and speed, their technically not as good as CSKA, but they played very well, limiting cska to long range shots etc, it wasn't edge of your seat stuff and they looked very comfortable compared to bohs away 2 weeks ago. I honestly thought watching as somewhat a neutral observer that they were going to get the draw, even thought they might score after going 1-0 which they should have (was that farren that shot straight at the keeper?) from a corner in the last 8 mins or so. The best thing I noticed and again its ssomeething simple but down to good management is, when they got the ball on the edge of their box, they played hte simple pass, they didn't hoof it up to the lone man and hope for the best, they played the simple ball out to the wing (a short 5 - 10 metre ) pass or to a midfielder, who in turn would turn towards his own goal or turn sideways, to wait for support, buy a bit of time, and lay off another short pass to someone in support. ALthough they didn't create many chances because of this they held possession well and it wasn't wave after wave of attack. I know im going on and on about this but i was seriouslly surprised at how organised and controlled an Irish side could be - awat from home against deemed superior opposition. HOpefully next week they can keep this side of things but also look to create more chances, when they did go at cska they looked to be able open them up.
cheers paul sounds like they did well so. hopefully they could nick a goal at home and see what happens. derry have some good footballers in there side so are well suited to european games.
Is the game being televised by bulgarian tv(i know its doubtful but thought id ask)?!
If pat's can score then they should be able to hang on and not concede 3.
Derry capable of winning at the brandy, depends on which team show up. But think sitting back and playing on the counter will suit CSKA. Likely Derry will have to score, at least, 3 to win the tie, which is a bit of an ask.
Against the odds, St Patrick's Athletic overcame Russian side Krylya Sovetov Samara 1 -0 last night with Declan (Fabio) O'Brien getting the crucial winner - his third goal in European competition in three games.

Both clubs done the league proud last night. Well done
That really was an amazing night - I'm still hoarse today
Pat's played some great stuff & the goal was only deserved. Sovetov are a very decent side & I'd still be worried about the away leg, but Pat's definetly deserved the win last night - they looked a perfectly ballenced side after half time when Bobby came on - Him & R.Guy on the 2 wings & Fabio coming through the centre - all with such pace - I think Pats may have stumbled on a formation that could save their League season too.
:ball:
Any links to match highlights yet?
Great to see the place sold out too - fantastic atmosphere!
The pats goal was on the RTE 2 late news. That's available on the RTE player
