A bit off topic, but it will really be interesting to see how Keegan does with Newcastle.

Apart from one or two people, we've all regarded him as a joke on here, myself included.
If you look at his history with Newcastle United he did wonders during his first stint, and football people seem to be shocked but pleasantly so with his appointment.
I just have my doubts sometimes about our football expertise- we're deadset against a La Liga winner FFS!
I know there's more to the equation than that, but the percentage of anti- Venables sentiment is a little surprising.
Again, not saying he's my first choice, but the vitriol filled posts I've read on here for the last couple of months surprised me a bit.
Keegan will be good at newcastle as he will be given bucket loads of cash to mould the team into his own. He couldn't have done so with us, where he would have relied upon his tactical nous.Quote:

You're probably right there. We need a manager who is a good motivator and is not overly worried about tactics. Tactics is short hand for "worrying about the opposition" and messing around with formations and lineups that the last 2 managers have indulged in.Quote:

Keegan might have been capable of doing that. I have my doubts.
Charlton did it. He conveyed a simple message, motivated the players and changed things when needed.
Sanchez seemed to do this with the North. They didn't fear anyone, had a good team spirit and went out and got on with the job. As well as that they had a set of supporters who got right behind the team. I think that's important. Unfortunately, they missed out on qualification because of results against lesser teams e.g. Iceland.
I don't think Allardyce (one trick pony) or Houllier ( too conservative, but I could be wrong) would fit the bill.
Venables might do it but seem to remember him messing about with formations when he was with England.
Brady has no experience, but maybe he's learned from Wenger.
Coppell from everyone left is potentially the right man for the job.

Newstalk (ontheball) contacted O'Leary today to get his version of events. One of the 3 amigo's called O'Leary before christmas and asked him did he want to be interviewed. O'Leary told the amigo (allegedly Givens) in colourful language thanks but no thanks. On the same show Giles stated he did not want Houllier as manager. Also in answer to a question Giles stated that Brady should be one of the leading candidates. Failed at Celtic but got on well with the players.Quote:

The betting exchanges can be easily manipulated. Place a large bet on one candidate. Then when the mob jumps on you lay against with a much higher stake than you originally bet. It happens a lot.
