Hyland stirring it in the Herald today: http://www.herald.ie/sport/soccer/da...e-2528384.html
Absolute non-story. McCarthy's family moving to Derry is a new one on me though...
With some assistance from Trap if those quotes are accurate!
This is interesting though:
Wasn't 'tiredness' cited this time also, at least initially? Sounds like the club line to me. They're coddling him.Quote:
"I am disappointed he is not here. We asked him in the summer and his manager said 'Please excuse him but he is tired'. Twenty-one and tired . . . but that's okay. I have respect for my colleague (Martinez).
You have to read the last sentence.
"Maybe I will try to speak with his manager and maybe with him. Maybe he is tired, maybe he is injured," said Trap.
dunphy thinks well lose mccarthy
Loads of players are dropping out for this international break. Fabregas and Van Persie have suddenly got a bug/flu, starfish Gerrard hurts his groin, Keane pulls out with a calf strain etc etc.
McCarthy is too important for Wigan and they are wrapping him in cotton wool. Martinez must have had a word and unfortunately Wigan pay his wages so we won't get to see him play.
Never lets it lie does he. 2 page spread in the hard copy as well that isn't online. And Daniel McDonnell needs to give it a rest at this stage and all. Why the hell did the media lads not let up on this today, they know it's going to **** Trap off and they're purely doing it to get a reaction. Tabloid hackery at it's worst from lads that should know better. They're getting more like the UK red tops by the week.

Be careful before jumping to conclusions re: McCarthy. Situation revolves around Wigan's plight, not nationality or notions of changing mind
Pulling out of a freindly squad is hardly the end of the world. Hopefully if he has a good run with Wigan until the end of the season he can be a part of the squad for the rest of the competitive games before the summer.
Just read this:
''Looks like we are going to lose james mccarthy to scotland strange trappatoni press conference today media starting to question his methods''

WTF?!? This sort of speculation does no good to anyone. We have no reason to doubt James, he has consistently stated that he wants to play for Ireland, even with recent approaches from Scotland. He will play for us and was apparently gutted that Wigan pulled him out of tomorrow nights game. What more do we want!??! Think we are just been slightly insecure over this.

Given having a dig now as well....
Journalists are there to **** stir. The honeymoon period for the Trap is well and truly over I'm afraid with respect to the local media. The journalists are willing to stick the knife in at any opportunity (novelty factor has worn off. You only have to look at Capello and English media to see how a good relationship can turn sour) so it won't surprise me if this story runs for a little longer.
Ok its the mail but heres the reassurance we all wanted

He's not going anywhere. Just like he hasn't gone anywhere the other 11 times he hasn't been picked for/made a squad.
Fcuking stupid comments from Shay.
YBIG carrying this...

Would suggest he's already gone! WTF!
Pretty well respected journo according to YBIG posters.
Jaysus.
Anxious re McCarthy situation! :o
He is a great dj but he hasn't been hot on sport in a while still is thay since the conference with given
I knew there was more to this from original squad selection
So Trappatoni is having a go at McCarthy for not turning up for the friendly but yet he was the one that didn't include him in the original squad because he said he felt he was injured and wouldn't be ready to play. So he can't have it both ways!
I am disgusted as much as everyone else that he's not going to be there but at the end of the day the club has to look after their own needs and I'm keeping my fingers crossed this is their decison and not his.
They're having kittens over on YBIG! Don't blame them mind you. I have that horrible feeling I got when I heard on my car radio that Roy Keane hadn't turned up for Quinn's testimonial.
They should play "Communication's Let Me Down" by Spandau Ballet on the PA tomorrow.
To be fair, YBIG organise a fair aul sing song and get sh*t done as is said, but the discussion can be a bit wild and wide of the mark sometimes
I've got that feeling too Stuggart. No matter how much I tell myself it's just journos stirring and that we've been through this before, it feels different now somehow. I hope we get a definitive answer soon.
Thats because you have the sensible old guard who started the site, produce the mags, and get sh*t down and then you have the other "parasites" as I call them who invaded the site around November of '08 as the site started to pick up in popularity. As the heads are far more laid back there than the folks here, and they basically have a sort of (formerly quite excellent) anything goes section, threads tend to degenerate rather quickly and I think it spills over into the Ireland section (for example, last time I posted Irish Scorers there, I believe yapster was also posting). I'm sure there are a handful of them who are sensible, but I lost the patience to attempt to weed them out a long time ago.
Kingdom, I was trying to figure it out too. I think there should be a full stop after "while" and "thay" should be "that". So POS is asking if the John Kenny tweet was after Shay's comments were reported.
Common sense would suggest that he's not being risked by Wigan, which is the right decision in my opinion. If it's more sinister than that then it's a right royal fcuk up by FAI and/or the team's management and would be unforgivable. Tuff Paddy, D69er, soccerc - post here, not on YBIG!
Ya im asking IF stutts good man.sorry kingdom im mobile so even less commas than usual though the way the language is going you don't seem to need them anymore anyway!wondering of timings of said tweets.john kenny is a great dj.but not that involved with sport anymore bar motor racing.mobile puts in stupid words and its not easy put in commas
good to know ppl don't have me on ignore then.test worked Haha
I don't see how it adds up. He/Wigan pulled him out of the squad due to an (apparent) ankle knock, he says he's gutted not to be involved, then we're losing him?
When I read this from RTE it seems that Trap says the right things about him not being 100% and how Trap will wait for him.
Crazy comments from Given though. It's only those comments that would make me wonder if there is something else going on.
