Yes because the Rangers strachan has faced isn't nearly as good as the rangers team when MoN was in charge of Celtic, he did win 3 out of 5 titles while there. And the treble in his first season.

Fair enough, but he did take Celtic to the uefa cup final and very nearly won it. He went close to getting out of the groups too in the CL, with some bad luck against juve standing out in particular.

The current team is not playing more attractive football!! O'neills team consisted of the likes of petrov, lambert, lennon, thompson, maloney and of course larsson hartson and sutton banging in goals, with no shortage of 4, 5, or 6 goals per game, something the current team rarely do against the poorer teams in the SPL. Way more attractive. And his signings may have been expensive, but they worked - lennon? sutton? hartson? agathe (though not expensive :p)?

Right, I was being a bit fatecious and for the record I think MON is teh better manager. But the attitude of the Celtic fans towards Strachan is frankly laughable and is based on nothing more then their dislike of hiom going back to his Aberdeen days. Would MON have achieved what he did had Jensen not brough Larsson to the club?

And Sutton, Hartson etc were VERY big money buys for the time, £6m on Sutton would be the same as spending double that now.

And how can you hold up the achievment on reaching a UEFA cup final to bolster your case on the one hand and then state that the Rangers team then was better then the current one given that the current Rangers team reached the UEFA final last season? Who's to say Strachan wouldn't have taken Celtic to the UEFA final had he been knocked out of the CL before the group stage?

And Celtic have been far more attractive to watch the last couple of seasons, O'Neill's a great manager but is far more direct and about power then Strachan.

You could also compare O'Neill's stellar work at Villa to Strachan's various relegations from the Premiership.

Which various relegations would this be? I recall one with Coventry after Keane and Whelan were sold at the start of the season against his wishes, how many am I missing?

Last season was the first time that MON had a team finish higher then Strachan's best season in the EPL when Southampton finished 8th in 02/03 (and also were narrowly beaten in the Cup Final). He'd managed an 8th once with Leicester before going to Celtic.

Some of the sh1t spouted by people who don't have a clue what they're on about when it comes to Strachan's managerial record is embarrassing.

In fairness I was trying to wind you up there with that one. But that is one more relegation than O'Neill has and now he has a better finish too. These stats will continue to add up. As will Celtic's endless number of titles. They are both good managers, and it can only be a difference of opinion as to who is better. My view is that O'Neill is better by far.

Regardless, McGeady needs to get out of Celtic. You just cant prove yourself at the highest level in Scotland, and as I said above, McGeady is NOT young anymore.

Came on for Maloney after about an hour and set up the goals with 2 crosses.

At least McGeady is a better player for Ireland than Maloney is for Scotland.

I am beginning to think that if Celtic got a big enough bid for Aiden in january that they would take it.

Sky Sports described him as the key player in yesterday's game, despite only coming on with 29 minutes to go

While I get what you're saying Neil, I think Sean meant that the arrival of Maloney and the "dip in form," or "falling out of favour," of McGeady could make him quite sell-able if good money is offered.

Back on topic- just watched the game there and McGeady was instrumental in both of Celtic's second half goals.

With reguard to Aiden ,what I meant was that other clubs might get more encouragement than they had previously

i cant think of any premiership clubs who would be in the market for wingers at the moment to be honest, mcgeady should have left in the summer, he was ahead of gutierez(spelling?) on newcastles wish list, other than that the premier league clubs seem to be sorted for wingers at the moment

McGeady is expected to start tonight against Villarreal as one of 3 attackers in 4-3-3. A similar formation to the one against Feyenoord in pre-season McGeady and Samaras supporting Vennegoor). We shall see.

I think thats the formation that would suit Celtic best in europe anyway with the players they have... the Chelsea type formation

McGeady worked hard tonight but was just ok. He had a good period at the end of the 2nd half where he set up 2 or 3 chances from the left.

Was much better on the left than when he was on the right in the 1st

Perhaps technically, but let's face it, that was a one-man effort!

Not one of his greatest fans but I thought he had a good game last night. Quite a few excellent runs. Admittedly he is still inclined to give the ball away too easily,and commited one stupid foul by sitting on the ball close to our box but the positives outweighed the negatives, especially in the first half.

In fairness the Cypriot player was virtually sitting on top of him.

I will be very surprised if McGeady does not win us at least one peno before the end of this campaign. His close control most of the time last night was excellent and anytime he got into the Cypriot box I was hoping one of their defenders would knick McGeadys ankle. He is almost unplayable when he plays like he did in the first half.

i think mcgeady will be a massive player for us in the next few years. im so glad he always wanted to play for us and not scotland. some of his control was class last night. yes sometimes he could lay it off a fraction quicker and his crossing could be a wee bit better but that will all come good. think he will chip in with a few goals sooner rather than later also.

In fairness last night every time he looked up to put a cross in both Doyle & Keane were well covered by the Cyprus defence. The fact that neither of our centre-mids were pushing forward into the box meant there was little option both for McGeady & Duff but to turn around and try and maintain possession.

I thought McGeady did well last night, putting in more effort than before. Trapp's message must be getting across.

McGeadys progress in a year has been immense, I suspect by next spring he will have advanced another bit too, He will be an important player for us and if we do qualify for 2010 he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet

I think there's still many Irish people that see him as a brainless player and because of that they won't give him the benefit of the doubt for a lot of things (judging by the many people I talked to today). He put in a good few crosses last night with all of them falling to a Cyprus player but he still played the pass to Duff which led to the goal, played the pass to Duff for his shot on goal, played the pass to Doyle free in the box. He's created a load of clear cut chances in our 3 games so far. Probably more than the rest of the team combined and I don't think I'm exaggerating.

I thought he played well last night. It's interesting to hear the praise from Doyle, Given and Trap. They thought he was fantastic yet a lot of fans weren't too impressed. Celtic fans would have been happy with that performance in Europe. It wasn't his very best but it was a good performance.

EB there is definitely room for improvement but I think he is definitely going in the right direction.

I had an absolute clown sitting behind me in the Davin Stand last night that was giving out about McGeady at every opportunity.No matter how many good things he did in the game, any time there was a missed placed pass or he didnt beat his man the bloke behind me was saying how fcuking useless he is and shouting for him to be taken off.It seriously got on my nerves especially in the 2nd half.

Personally I though he was very good last night, there are improvements still to be made in his crossing at times and also some decision making but overall he looked dangerous all night and really should have scored. If him and Duffer maintain that form we'll be a threat to anyone

I said it in another thread but I'll say it here too. I like him a lot but last night I thought he was absolutely shocking in the second half. He gave the ball away countless times by holding onto possession for too long. He needs to improve drastically in this respect in my opinion.

Spot on. Decent performance, but he doesn't know when to pass and when to keep going. Also his crossing was unbelievably bad at times.

He didn't have too many targets to aim for in the Cyprus penalty area though. Our central midfielders didn't get forward and our full backs weren't going forward. He was trying to pick out either Doyle or Keane in the box with at least 5 or 6 Cypriots around them. They just cleared everything.

I think he would have done better if he got any kind of support at all from the full-back behind him but McShane wasn't interested in coming forward (perhaps under instruction in fairness). It left McGeady up against two players usually but he still produced a good performance. I agree though that I think there is more to come from him.
