The Football Association of Ireland is ready to apply for planning permission to install extra seating at Drogheda’s United Park later this year.
The FAI is the landlord of the ground, which requires development work in order to meet the necessary licensing requirements for Drogheda United to take its place in the Premier Division in 2009.
Although no work will take place before the new season’s March 6th start date, Drogheda will be given a derogation on the understanding that some refurbishment will take place in the near future.
According to the Drogheda Independent, as many as 1400 seats could be installed on the terrace behind the goal at the ground’s North Road end.
Drogheda had planned to construct a brand-new 10,000-seater stadium outside the town but the project met with massive delays which eventually precipitated the club’s financial implosion late last year.
