Saw some of the game last night against Stoke before I fell asleep on the couch. Reid is rotund again and not quite the Reid of a month or so ago. Doesn't really matter now but when he retires he'll be like Billy Bunter.
It doesn't sound like Trapp was going to pick him anyway but Andy Reid is out for a month so wouldn't be available for the Brazil game anyway.

Reid is back training
Good news, needs a good finish to the season to hopefully get a recall to the squad for the summer games. Whether you think he's under or overrated we simply do not have enough top level players that we can afford to ignore those playing regularly at that level. We already have one AWOL as it is.
It's easy to forget that Reid is still only 27. He still has a lot to offer Ireland and he certainly has the quality to be in the squad. I know winger isn't his best position, but he contributes far more than Stephen Hunt from out wide in my opinion and he's also a year younger. Great to see him back.
Well in my view at this point he offers more end product than McGeady.
I can understand Duff and Lawrence being first choice, but I think Andy Reid would probably be third in the pecking order. I get the impression that Trap likes his wide players to be defensively responsible to a certain extent though, as Duff and Lawrence don't shirk that side of the game at all.
No question I'd have Reid in the squad.
My wide men would be: Duff and Lawrence (to start)
Subs: Hunt (used in a game where we must be defensive/physical)
Andy Reid (used in a situation when we need a goal, or when playing a weaker side).
I'd probably rank McGeady as fifth choice wide player at this stage. He's got time, but at this stage he's not meeting expectations.
trap wont call him up for these upcoming games. what has changed in his view?? nothing i would say. of course id want him back in a second but cant see it happening as long as trap is manager.

Celtic, Newcastle alerted to Reid availability at Sunderland
Came off the bench tonight for his first appearance since February - http://www.safc.com/news/20100824/su...256213_2133608
Where ya been Andy? Bring back Andy! How old is he? Can't be older than Trap is. Seriously maybe he can end up back in the lineup.
Good to see him back. Sunderland have missed him.
If that is the case why were Sunderland reported to have made him available for sale last week (see the SwanvDalton post above)? It might be that Bruce has lost patience with his injury record and would be open to offers. Hopefully that is not the case but Andy needs a good run in the Sunderland first team to silence the doubters.
Based on this picture it looks like he kept pretty trim during his absence

I think it's his injury record that has Bruce frustrated. I think the form he showed when fit last season silenced all the doubters.
I suspect Trap, probably with some justification, looks at the likes of Reid and especially Stephen Ireland as luxury players who could get overrun in central midfield. Just like Ireland was on Saturday against Newcastle. Reid is different though because he is very effective from wide positions too.
Like the description of his position as a "deep lying midfielder", almost Pirlo-esque (in position, not ability)
Reidy when fit last season was one of their better performers. Have a hunt for any match report from the guardian featuring Sunderland/Andy Reid and he'd get a mention of how well he played. Why would Bruce want rid? (He's already denied the rumour about wanting to ship him on anyway).
Bruce last year.
And Sunderland manager Steve Bruce admitted: `Andy has been arguably our best player for a month. Trap is a bit more experienced and better than I am so it is his call.
`All pre-season he has not missed a day's training. The penny has dropped with him, in his head. You have to be in some physical condition these days to play in the Premier League. If you are not physically capable you won't make it. That is what defines a Premier League to a Championship player.
`It is the physical condition. If you are not physically capable you can't do it. Andy deserves credit for that and not me. He thought to himself in the summer `I am going to go away and do something about it and not be ridiculed any more'.'
I'd love to see him back in the Ireland fold as a squad player but I know that will never happen now. He could still do a job for us IMO.
Reid came on with about 5mins to go today. Carrying a bit more weight than last year by the look of things (probably due to no game time with injury). Couple of nice touches but not enough time to give him a real chance to impress. Good to see him back.
The BBC text referred to him as "The barrel-chested Andy Reid"
So it wasn't an exaggeration?
Definetely "Big Boned". Still looked Sunderland's most likely player to put in a decent ball into the front three. Sunderland had tons of the ball but barely a decent ball into the box the whole game. Reid floated in one great ball from center midfield into the box that should have led to a goal. Did more in his short cameo than Zenden's 20 mins.
Zenden set up the equaliser.

Thankfully someone putting a stop to his musical career before it starts.
Have a heart for a guitar picker's best friend
Rory Gallagher was probably was buried with his Fender Stratocaster
"this guitar is part of my psychic makeup. It's my best friend. I love playing it, I play it every day. It's not like B.B. King, who's had like a hundred Lucilles. I've only got one Strat, and it hasn't got a name or whatever. I mean, where I came from at the time, to own a Stratocaster was like, it was monumental, it was just impossible, you know, and it's what it is. I love playing it"

"In the flinty light, it's midnight,
And stars collide.
Shadows run, in full flight,
To run, seek and hide. "
As that photo shows, long hair and guant looks do a cool guitarist make. So Stephen Hunt with an axe is OK, Paddy McCourt would have fit in well with Pink Floyd (long meandering solo runs that go nowhere, and probably not to Nigel Worthington's taste) but Andy Reid.....
Nah.
I dunno, looks like Andy has a readymade role should this guy ever decide to retire...

Reid says he might have to go out on loan to get first team football: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...444069,00.html
would mccarthy take him i wonder? be a good move for both i reckon especially if he is out of contract next year, on a free and all that.
Just days until the inevitable 'Celtic Seek Reid Loan Swoop' stories.
