Cheers. If I have the right guy Steve still calls to see the odd game but his focus is his golf handicap. Paul is playing with Killumney with a few seasons???
Both fine players...
Also I'd like to wish old foes Grangevale all the best in their trip to Waterford. It is a credit to the club to come back from potential disaster when they were relegated to division 3 a few years back to now be more than holding their own as a 1st division side and looking forward to a big trip in the MJC.
Beat by postal celtic on saturday evening in mayfield all weather pitch, How we lost i still dont know like in first have we must have had at least 70percent posession, we started rather slowly and our centre half was caught ball watching after 25 and we were punished but from then on it was totally one sided we pushed and pushed but they defended well and saw us out till half time,
The second half was more one sided than the first and we had 2 at the back and even our keeper played the 2nd half on the half way line as we pushed and pushed for a goal, they cleared 2 off the line in 30seconds, hit the post, had a penalty shout (not given) missed a sitter from 6 yards, striker in 1 on 1 and ref called offside, he was at least 2 yards onside, and then in the last minute ball played in to one of our players (he knows who he is) hahaha and from all of 2 yards he put the ball the only place in the whole goal he couldnt score and will go down as one of worst misses i have seen,
So it was one of those extremely frustrating days where a team dominates and do everything except score, so in the bigger scheme of things this cup wasnt the most important thing and although it would have been nice to keep the run going maybe its a blessing in disguise as far as the league, city cup, and st michaels cup are concerned.
Is it just my screen or did Marios post look very strange. It seems to happen to the lasts post everytime ???
been watching a while and said id join in since we've been a main topic as of late, im playin wit leeds in prem a and played sunday, chumps- fair comment but ye have to remember we have gone from 2nd division to prem a in 1 season and have a very young side, im 27 and wud prob b the oldest. we lost keith and lost stephen mcgee thru injury for the season- 2 big losses, not many teams could cope with loosing that quality. Sayin that we are holding our own in a tough league which most of our players have never played in before.
Waterloo are a good side and surprised us, me included, they have only been beaten once this season so im told and have beaten coachford already, they wont b 2nd div for too long and i wish them all the best against janesboro- tough draw
Now to gary nolan- alot of ott comments i have to say, ye have to remember gary is still only 21 and is learning, i agree wit the guv, he is a top player prob the best iv played with in the aul, playing with him week in week out i see the kickings he gets and its frustrating to watch let alone be the one who is gettin kicked around the pitch so maybe a **** and a moan now and again can b excused. He is on the aul panel on merit and best of luck to him, i nice fella and a top player
Now we wil try to turn chumps into champs this wk by doin alot of ye and ourselves a favour by beating kanturk, i hear they have a handy striker, anythin else??
ballincollig first team to withdraw from AUL - Puts a different slant on the premier A league table!!
Grattan 2 Knocavilla 0.
Sorry for the delay in gettin a report in.If last weeks result was pleasing because of its all round display, this weeks one was pleasing because we just did what we needed to,to get the points. You cant say a professional attitude because its only a junior game but we all know what i mean,we wanted 3 points an we did exactly what we had to to make sure we got those points.
Knockavilla were workman like an honest, battled well an even caused us a worry or 2 but we were comfortable throughout I thought an our defence looked very sharpe. We all hear the one about 'on another day we could have scored more' but when you have one of those days, you have to make sure you at least win the game, which we did.Shaws got a smashing volley an young Gerry Kelleher got his 2 nd goal in as many games,in as many starts.
We had a great start to the season an let our self down badly in all the cups an that me speaking honestly but over xmas we regrouped an We probably trained when knowone trained an it looks to have sorted us out big time.In the league 5 wins from 7 is very good, but in that 7 we have 4 clean sheets an the 2 losses we have suffered well we are dissapointed, bitterly so that we didnt tale at least 4
points from the 6 on offer in those games, why we didnt was our fault an not down to the opposition. But it all looks like its heading towards a good finish to the season,an we all like that.
Welcome Leedspk, Fair dues for taking our comments (chumps) in jest and i hope ye do turn that around next week in kanturk. Good side, very fit but have been dropping a fw points of late.
Ballincollig gone......does that mean that teams get points or points taken off ??
The same reasons as when every other team end up jackin it in,too many distractions off the field for lads nowadays an not enough lads willing to put the effort in to sustain a team,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
lads where can i find yer fixtures for this weekend, that aul site is pure confusing
well we must be doin something right if ther is a so called 'hype' about us and the aul manager has an eye on us, alrite for a team who played 3rd div football 2 yrs ago and didnt even win the 2nd division last yr.
i know a fella who trained wit kanturk pre season and said 2hrs physical both tue and thur, its paying off for them tho but they are goin thru a bad patch as of late so maybe we have them at the rite time. big squad and being able to cope wit the backlog better than ur rivals will win this league and most leagues this season, 2/3 games a week once the nite games kick in will be tough ona small squad, injuries and work will cause feirce problems so maybe all ye managers better keep fit incase ye get called upon- even u guvnor!!!
the echo
Ballincollig are gone because they lost loads of players to their Senior team - is the MSL side was struggling - we played and lost to them at the start of the season when they had some semblance of a side - in all honesty we should have beaten them 10 nil that day the ball just wouldnt go in - we played them recently and it was a totally different side - in effect a 3rd division AUL side - I would imagine that those players got sick of getting battered and thought it better to withdraw. All teams will get 6 points if they didnt play them - so we will be the only team who didnt get 6 from them :-(
Oscar try here http://www.isrscork.com/fixhome.htm should find what you are looking for - I assume you want to watch waterloo??
from what i am aware leeds team that won the ist division last year folded their second division team went up to replace them,.they were joined by a number of the disbanded team as well,so i think ther is where the hype comes from .and the fact yere manager said yee have the best player in the au l.
Lads is it just me or is it a disgrace that a town the size of Ballincollig can't keep 2 teams running??? I know there are other teams in the area but according to Wiki the town population is 16,000. The have 2 teams competing in each schoolboys age-group (I think) they won the MSL 1st Division last year - and again one or two teams (only you in this case Ola) get punished for having played/dropped points a team that folds... I thought after last year they'd have changed the rules and wiped Ballincolligs records???
Don't get me started!
This rule where the innocent teams that have played the team that withdraws (in this case Ballincollig) are the only ones that can possibly be hurt is not fair.
A league is supposed to produce the best team.
No one can complain about bad draws like in a cup. Everybody plays everybody twice.
Not so in the Cork AUL.
The team that withdraws should have their record wiped from the league.
This is the rule in Irelands top league (LOI).
This is the fairest solution - why does the AUL continue with an UNFAIR method of dealing with this situation???
Their failure to change this rule after what happened in last years Premier Div astounds me.
We can give out about the team that packs it in, but how about not p****ng off the decent teams that fulfill all their fixtures.
:ball:
That was the original plan but it didnt work out that way. out of the current team only dean buckley would have been playing prem a with the 1st team if they had not folded, keith would have as well but he only played 1 game this season ( against ballicollig so sort of doesnt count now) so i wouldnt really count him. All the rest were the 'b' team and had a 1st div fixture against mayfield changed to a prem a game against greenmount 3days before the season kicked off. Staying in the division in my eyes would be a good season and we can build on that then - hopefully that clears up the confusion
Both u and i know Conny Madden is the best player in the aul
Lads, this champs and chumps is gonna turn nasty!
In defence of my buddy the guvnor Leeds lost to a side who are doing very well this year!
My own view on the champs would be Waterloo for getting a great result away to a higher ranked opposition, and the chumps unfortunately Donoughmore who conceded 6 at home considering they are top of the league and have only conceded 7 goals from 9 league matches this season.
On a brighter note we just scraped pass John Boscos at the weekend to progress to 3rd round of AOH, just wish we could start winning a few league games now!
I had a big long post written and lost it all...................
Here goes again - a shortened version.
Inish - I meant TOTM for December. We have 2W1D for Jan so will write in anyway.
You are right about Ballincollig too - I would have thought that Village was always known as as good supporters of sport. I thought for years that they had their own place.
Hopefully, they will be back soon.
On the points thing, as Oli said, we have no qualms about our defeat. We should have been 6 up before they scored with 10 mins to go. We did expect all other teams to get 6 from the unfortunate Ballincollig, but you never know. Players missing, GAA etc, so I agree with wiping all records.
Leeds, welcome and doesnt the last fortnight sum up football in general!! Champs, then Chumps!!
Owl, Looking forward to my rookie visit to Ballyvolane Pk. Can you give me directions from Stirrup?
Had a look at the AUL rule book.
I suggest deleting the results relating to the team that withdraws.
Looking at the wording of that rule, I wonder are rules 24 (e) and 24 (f) enforced by the league?
24. Failing to complete Season –
24(a) Any club with more than one team in a grade, wishing to withdraw a team from the league during the season in point’s competition, must withdraw their lowest grade team.
24(b) This team shall be automatically relegated and points for un-played matches will be credited to other clubs as they accrue.
24(c) Any team, which does not complete its full programme of league fixtures, will, upon reapplying for membership for the next season, pay to the League a bond of €250 for Junior teams. This bond will be returned on completion of the teams full league fixture programme for that season.
24(d) Any team withdrawing from the league, or a team removed from the league by the management committee shall be automatically relegated and points for un-played matches will be credited to other clubs as they accrue.
24(e) Any player who has assisted a club in the League, and which has resigned from membership of the League or has been suspended or otherwise removed, must receive permission from the management committee before he can register with another club.
24(f) The players of any club that withdraw or have been removed after the 31st January cannot register with any club for the remainder of the season.
Horse, coming from the ballyv side, turn right (the road up the side of the petrol station) and carry out that road, and past the GAA pitch on the right. our place is about 200 yards beyond that on the left......Stade de Ballyvolane, parking could be tight as it is match of the week and SKY SPORTS usually take up alot of spaces with all their gear !!:)
We both wear red, dnt we ???
Blackstone are all Blue - the owl !!
Iv read all the comments posted over the last week or so an paid special attention to the ones who posted about havin player who deserved a Aul call up an even more so towards those who claim to have the so called 'best player in the league' statement.
Theirs a massive difference between having a player whos had a good season so far an a player who is recognised as being one of the best players over the last 4 or 5 seasons.
I'll give 3 examples.
Derek Macarthy, without doubt one of the best strikers to play in the Aul,I would say of his generation.Has proved himself at senior, junior an internationl grade.Pure class.
Derek Delea, again one of the best attacking players to play in the Aul in the last ten years, again proven at senior level an a major factor in the Oscar success last season.
John 'Figo' Kelleher.I have played Msl an Aul an even dabbled with the league of Ireland set up but all told Iv never seen a player with so much genuine talent.Hes buy far the best attacking player the Aul has had at their disposal in yonks.
Now if I heard someone say any one of these players,an a good few more besides ' are the best players in the Aul' then Id say fair enough theirs very good reasons to back those statements up.
But with all due respect to whats been mentioned by various posters as the best in the Aul,because they have had a good or great season to date an feel as if there players deserve it,get the consistancy, season on season an gain the right to deserve to acolade.
When experience an consistancy is used as a gauge to denote a player being the best,,,,,,,,,then its deserved.
A win here or their an a good display here or their means your heading the right way,an thats it.Some players are there already.

We all claim to be the best, they have actually all gone an proved they are the best.
They are the only ones who have actually earned the right to be called the best.
I had a comment written there but decided against it - i think the AUL panel should be the best team and not the best individuals - whatever works best is the most important - I'm not going to say anymore about the AUL panel from now on - to be honest I havent been to an Oscar Traynor match in about 15 years. I'm more interested in my own team to be honest!!
Thats fair enough Oli.
Anyone here at the Cork City v Cork A.U.L. game in Cobh last night? Can't see a result anywhere on this site.
I've never had the honour of playing against Figo in a league/cup match but I did play in 5-a-side up in Churchfield once against him and I have to admit - he scored two of the most incredible goals I have ever seen. impossible to describe them but unreal goals skill wise.
AUL team wise - I would not like the job to be honest. As a competition the OT cup is tough - in all honesty last year the Cork AUL won the comp last year and were fully deserving winners but was there any game they played that the result might not have gone the other way? From my memory each game they played was tight - in the knockout stages it could have gone either way in each round. Again don't get me wrong I totally feel the team deserved the results they got but to remember one goal either way and it could have been a totally different story - exact same situation this year...
Looks like game was called off because the pitch was unplayable in Cobh (on Billy's website).
How was the pitch unplayable? weather has been pretty good recently - I know we had some rain yesterday and last night but enough to make a pitch unplayable???
Opps just saw you replied above One Foot - but the question still needs to be asked...
Sorry chico, meant to say Blue.............
There was a schools game played there on Tuesday, Colaiste Mhuire of Cobh won the FAI Schools Munster Senior title beating Limerick C.B.S. 5-4 on pens after a 1-1 draw. Surely there could not have been that much damage to the pitch?
Cant imagine how the coleman park pitch was waterlogged?! Perhaps bella could shed some light on it. Is it more problems with Cork City and money - having to pay for the use of the pitch? What are the future friendlies for the AUL side? When are they playing tipp? Games for the newcomers would be vital you would think.
According to the details on Billy's site Cork A.U.L. are playing the T.S.D.L. between now and March 5th/6th.
Quarter Final Draw
1) Defence Forces v Galway
2) Wexford v Dublin AUL
3) Roscommon/Sligo/Donegal v Clare
4) TSDL v Cork AUL
Ties to be played on or before the 5th/6th of March 2010.
Semi-Final Draw
1 v 2 4 v 3
Ties to be played weekend of the 27th/28th of March 2010.
I agree with u to some degree but u must also take into account having a couple of good seasons 2/3 years back doesnt mean ur at OT standard now. I know John and he is an excellent player but he has struggled with injuries and maybe not at the standard he was at and players coming thru are showing this season that they are good enough and are at that level and in my opinion should be picked for that alone and not what they have done in the past. Derek Mellerick was a very good player but he is not in the aul squad . Saying that i think if John gets back to the standard he was at he'd be the 1st name on the OT team sheet, no doubt.
