Doesn't have the same je ne sais qua about it though :p

Talking rubbish again on RTE tonight. Contradicted himself and had to say he was wrong and would only go for the FAIs plan if it meant John and Liam were the people picking the manager.
His argument had way too many flaws. Again John Giles and Liam Brady were spot on but Giles suffers from not doing his research on enough managers. His Theory is right but he does not know enough names of top coaches around Europe.
Giles said he agreed with the FAI and said that getting footballing people in to pick the manager was the right idea. But it depends on which footballing people they are. They also said that we should really follow a model were ex players are actually on the pay roll of the FAI Full time and are involved in the Association and help with picking the manager so they are automatically part of the selection comittee.
Brady said he would be ruled out of teh job as he does not have enough top level experience. But if they found that they could not get a top level coach he would be intersted in the job.
They all understood Dunphys fear that the FAI will get a selection committee of fools but Dunphys logic did not stand up as he said he did not trust the FAI to pick the right men to pick the manager so therefore they should pick the manager themselves. No logic in that at all.
The make up artists were working overtime on them tonight. Bill looked like a raspberry with icing on top

The only pundit in Ireland who transcends media and Stations consistently is Paddy Mulligan. He pops up everywhere. TV3 and Newstalk mainly.
Speaking of "pundits", what has happened to Jim Beglin these days? You couldn't switch on a game without him co-commentating a few years back.
Spot on. And he keeps coming out with them. Remember, after Brian Kerrs first game in charge it was Dunphy who described him as not only the best Irish coach in twenty years, but the first Proper coach in that time. Now he wants the FAI to break the bank and get the very best that's out there. And what is his idea of the very best ? Lippi, Capello, Hiddink ? No, Paul Jewell or George Graham. Ha ha, and again, ha.
My only experience of Paul Jewell, hotly touted by Leather Face himself:
From Wikipedia:
Jewell had been hoping to mount a promotion challenge in 2000-01 with Wednesday but after enduring a torrid eight months in charge was sacked in February 2001 with the debt-ridden Hillsborough club struggling near the foot of Division One. He won only 2 of his last 13 games in charge and he struggled with big-earning players not producing on the pitch with one international (Wim Jonk) guaranteed £5,000 per match whether he played or not and another (Gilles De Bilde) refusing to go out on loan because he would have no-one to look after his dogs. Jewell should have seen the writing on the wall when goalkeeper Kevin Pressman was sent off after 13 seconds of his first match in charge at Wolverhampton Wanderers. His undoubted highlight was the 2-1 League Cup victory over local rivals Sheffield United and victory over Premier League West Ham United.
Sorry but have you not watched any other football other than Wednesday. Surely you can base your opinion on more than just his record at Wednesday. I dont think he is perfect for the job either but surely his record at Wigan and Bradford should come into it more.
if unsworth hadnt scored that penalty on the last game of the season and didnt keep wigan up would people have the same opinions of jewell...
I was concerned with the comments at the end
I hope I am quoting right
'select a panel and the cirus starts all over again'
One thing which worried me with the whole stan thing was the vicious assault the media made on Stan. I appreciate that the severity of the situation and the quality of the performance, but it has me extremely worried. The comments seem to me (and please correct me if I'm wrong) no matter what manager is selected, the process will be critised and the new manager from the word 'go' is undermined.
Sometimes in small doses a hard word in the press is a good thing but constant barrage will only result in one thing - bad performances and bad results.
People have to appreciate that the crowd listen to the media, the players listen the media and the manager listen to the media.
If the media are constantly critical of the team will just end up like England - desperate under achievers.
Who ever takes over - dunphy RELAX, constructive critism is welcome but use of the words 'joke' 'circus' 'clown', 'pharse' are not welcome, saying someone played out of position is ok but leave it at that.
Saying they are professionals and can take it is rubbish, the fans will interpret this as the player is not giving it 100% and will get on his back instead of supporting him
I couldnt give a rats ass about the FAI administration and concils, I hope I never hear an Irish team boo'ed on their turf again, absolute low point in Irish soccer.
Support the TEAM, support the MANAGER and support your COUNTRY
I have of course but one's personal experiences are always better than vicarious experiences. He did well at mediocre clubs like Wigan and Bradford. He wasn't up to the job at a bigger club like Wednesday unlike Big Jack who rescued them from oblivion (heading back in that direction).
Just wondering why Coco the Clown thinks he's the bees' knees. 6 months in to the job he'll be calling for his head of that you can be sure.
Armando, I take your point but he was unable to deal with these issues.
According to Dunphy tonight Ireland are a better team then Inter Milan.
how did he compare this?! he doesnt like liverpool...
Sorry Neil but I don't think Dunphy's sensationalism deserves a new thread in this case. :) Obviously it's a no brainer and Dunphy's just doing his best to play down Liverpool's win.
Well, Inter certainly went out to play for a draw, especially after they went down to 10 men.
But... what the hell is Dunphy on about!?
Billo asked him about the defensive side of Italian football and if we will play like that under Trappattoni. Eamon said that we would not as we are a better side than Inter and he would rather go to war with the Irish guys.
He reached a new low last night. It was cringeworthy stuff. The two of them actually dismissed the one person with actual knowledge of Italian football (souness) because Dunphy watches La Liga on the box every weekend.
Zlatan is a nothing player.
As for their oral wa*king over Gerrard I hate it. One thing he did last night , 1 thing, and they cream themselves. Except Giles. He really can spot a chancer in the middle of the pitch.
When Inter beat the scousers 3 nil he'll say Inter will win the Champions League......
The really cringe-making stuff was when Laughing Bill congratulated Giles/Drunkphy on their part in helping to appoint Trappatoni  At least Giles had the good grace to say, other than his attempt to get Jewell appointed, he had no part in the process. I don't think Drunkphy's rants against Venables had any effect on the matter. As evidence by the polls in foot.ie, most fans were dead against the appointment and I suspect that was reflected in the FAI Board, otherwise he would have been appointed straight away. For Laughing Bill to publicly thank the two for their roll in the matter - well pass me the sick bucket.

Here Owls fan you should give Kevin Myers a call.
he also said doyle and o shea would start for inter milan....i think....
Think he said Dunne, O'Shea and Keane, if he said Doyle, I don't remember it.
Lads, i think too many people take Dunphy seriously. He's just there for entertainment value and if everyone realised that they'd enjoy his rants so much more. Everything he says should be taken with a bucket of salt.
For intelligent analysis, see Giles and Brady (not Souness - he's like a little mouse when he's with the lads)
Like the 10+ years vicious and personal campaign he lead (aided by Giles and Laughing Bill) against Charlton and McCarthy. I took that seriously as I took his support for closing down Milltown seriously. Only in Ireland would a total clown like that be tolerated on the national airwaves venting his spleen and making a fortune as well at the same time. The hypocrite citing Venables misdeamenours when he's been up in court more often than the Yorkshire Ripper. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Was the Yorkshire RIpper up in court much.
He did say Doyle, though muttered it more like. Don't think he even believed it himself..he also said Stephen Ireland would and Duffer of course would get in obviously. Thats 6 Ireland players in the Inter Team, who are walking away with Serie A!! I luv Dunphy:DQuote:
Think he said Dunne, O'Shea and Keane, if he said Doyle, I don't remember it.
Think Souness is a good addition to the panel, if Brady joins Ireland I'd welcome him on board. Think he enjoys being able to speak freely on irish tele as opposed to offering cliches on Sky.
Taken from football 365's mediawatch page - sums up what I think of Dunphy perfectly;
Rent-A-Quote And Bullsh**ting
And there was yet more proof that RTE firmly pulls down the pants of every broadcaster in England in the shape of another Mediawatch favourite Eamon Dunphy's post-match 'analysis' of the Liverpool game.
Having predicted that Inter would win the match, Dunphy proclaimed shortly after the final whistle: "Let's put Liverpools achievement in context: Inter are crap."
Apparently winning Serie A two years running, leisurely strolling it this year and going unbeaten for five months are not good enough to impress Eamonn.
But he didn't stop there. According to Dunphy, the Irish national team that required injury time to beat San Marino, and were spanked 5-2 by Cyprus are better than Inter, and that John O'Shea (at this point you'd be forgiven for thinking we're making it up. We assure you, we're not) would stroll into their side.
He rounded things off quite nicely with a startling lack of knowledge about, well, anything, with the pearler: "Look at Roma. They got beat 7-1 at Old Trafford a few years ago and went on to win Serie A!"
Entertaining stuff. All the more entertaining when you remember that this is the man who accused Roy Keane of being a 'rent-a-quote', 'bullsh**ting' and 'vacuousness'.
If you'll excuse Mediawatch, we have a satellite dish to re-position.
In mitigation of that point, he said before the match that if Inter showed up they would win. Obviously they didn't, and so, using Dunphy logic, they are crap. Not sure how to explain how that justifies a rant about Serie A, the excellent Cordoba being a nobody, and Jos getting on the Inter team, however.
On topic, Ireland are definitely better than Inter. When have they ever beaten us? :D
Dunphy is nothing more than a fella sitting at the bar spouting off whatever comes into his head. We've all done it. He just does it in front of the camera. That's what makes him stand out in the inane world of punditry.
He obviously can't stand Liverpool though, and was discombobulated by the result.
