The psychotherapist that Man City referred him to must be pants.

Poor troubled Lad
Can't even afford elastic for his pants

[QUOTE=as_i_say;808012]it beggars belief
I love it - another George Hamiltonism on foot.ie!!
Anyone know if he was still making himself unavailable for the Wales game due to his troublin' troubles or if Givens just dropped him:confused:
Either way, based on previous man management efforts, I'd say we can expect to see Givens slagging him off in a press conference.
To be fair, the trip from Manchester to Cardiff can be hell for someone going through a difficult time. I think we should just leave him to get on with his Man City career in peace - he clearly doesn't want to draw attention to himself...
...Now THAT's sarcasm!
Spot on, Don. It's a while now until another important Ireland match. Hopefully by then Gazza Ireland will be full of remorse and ready to impress Souness in his first game.
I have no complaints about Givens when he talked about pride in playing for your country. Givens was quite right to sort of say that 'let the next manager deal with it'.
Probably a blessing that Don did not contact S. Ireland by phone.
The guy obviously has a few problems. Leaving him out was probably a good idea. Let him get focused on the next qualifying campaign where hopefully he'll be fresh with a clear conscience.
Saw this on his Wikipedia article...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_IrelandQuote:
Since then, Ireland has pulled out of the Republic squad a second time. Rumours have begun circling that Ireland is avoiding the Irish squad due to alleged bullying by teammates. Ireland has supposedly been losing his hair in recent years and is rumoured to have either had a hair transplant or acquired a wig, and this has reportedly led to the player being insulted and severely teased by some of his Irish teammates. This teasing is said to have led to Ireland distancing himself from the rest of the squad and gradually developed into more serious bullying, with one alleged incident involving Ireland being forcibly held down on the dressing room floor for several minutes while teammates pulled out his hair. Ireland is said to be receiving treatment from a psychologist to help him deal with the alleged bullying.

Sorry this is rubbbish it has appeared before and Stephen Hunt has denied it every happened, Ireland has not commented on it.
This is really non-news. He celebrated a goal in bizarre fashion. Lots of players do it.
Martins, Lua Lua, et al what's with all the handstands? Are they trying to prove to their ex-PE teacher they can do it? What about Robbie Fowler sniffing the goal line? Or Mauro Camoranesi playing guitar with the corner flag?
Don't even get me started on Robbie Keane's one....
Can someone tell me what exactly is so unaccpetable about this celebration?
I think what we have on our hands here is a slightly troubled yet potentially a brillant player, the latter of which we should be extremely pleased with!! I think the new Irish Manager is going to require Kids gloves when dealing with young Ireland, Sven seems to have a gift for this sort of thing and would reflect in Irelands performance and excellent goal this week, one things for sure the media will love him as I'm sure he'll be a top scope for some time to come and will add, be it good or bad, alot of controversy and character to the Irish Set-up which seems to lack character since a certain other Cork man left the scene..
Nice picture of him in 'The Scum' over here in England, complete with the headline 'Paddy Pants Down.' Did they have the same headline in the Irish Scum?
Can't wait for the next time Shaun Wright Phillips is caught smilling after scoring a winner with the Scum headline, 'Jolly Wog.'
How about,
Paddy on the railway, Paddy on the line, Paddy dropped his trousers 'round the 1/2 way line.
By Micah Richards
Manchester City and England defender
After all his problems, I was delighted to see Stephen Ireland score Manchester City's winner against Sunderland on Monday.
But it was quite disappointing to hear that people wanted him to be fined for his celebration in his Superman pants.
You have to be so careful nowadays with how you celebrate because it seems that the fun element when celebrating goals is disappearing.
It is not as though he was naked or anything and it was not hurting anyone so I do not really see anything wrong with it.
To be honest, I was supposed to do that celebration with him. We both bought the same pants at the same time!
However, I was not playing so I could not join him - and I am quite pleased now because otherwise I would have got the same stick.
I know Stevie really well, after coming through the ranks with him at City, and his mates here have helped him through his problems, which are well documented.
He lives opposite me - his front door is about five seconds away from mine - and we always help each other out.
I have been out since twisting my knee against Bolton but the good news is that hopefully I will be fit to face Portsmouth on Sunday
Some of the things that have been said about him in the press recently have been ridiculous and, at the end of the day, he is a normal human being.
People are always trying to criticise Stevie but he actually has quite a strong character, so for him still to be putting in good performances for City, with everything he has had to deal with, shows that.
He is a quality player who was always highly rated when he was a youngster at City and is now one of the top players in our first team.
Stevie has so much up his sleeve skill-wise and has a good goalscoring record as well. He is always in the right position.
If you have seen his goal against Sunderland then you can see what good technique he has. Some people would have taken an extra touch and some would have fluffed the volley but, from the way he took it, you can tell he is a special player.
It was frustrating for me to miss that game through injury. I watched it from my box at Eastlands and I was kicking every ball - like any player I just wanted to be out there.
I went down to the changing room afterwards just to congratulate everybody because it was not an easy game.
Sunderland work hard and have some good players. It was never going to be a walkover so it was a good three points to get.
We did not play well and people may say we are riding our luck at the moment but we are not third for no reason.
606: DEBATE
Give your reaction to Micah's column
It was good to bounce back from losing 6-0 to Chelsea by beating Bolton in the Carling Cup and then to get another home Premier League win was important.
I have been out since twisting my knee against Bolton but the good news is that hopefully I will be fit to face Portsmouth on Sunday.
At the time my knee felt really painful but a couple of days later it was a lot better. It was only bruising and I should be back in training on Thursday.
Portsmouth will be a tough challenge because, even when they were not doing so well in the league, going there is always a hard game and they are currently fifth in the Premier League.
We have won seven out of seven in the league at home but we know there is room for improvement with our away record too.
I am not exactly sure what that is down to but it makes a big difference when you have 40,000 fans behind you at home. I did not think that when I used to watch games but when you are playing the crowd makes a difference.
Whatever the reason, we have to get it right and start winning games away from home if we want to challenge in the top six.
# Micah Richards was talking to Chris Bevan
oh that explains it all. Because I have always listened to what Micah Richards has had to say.
Not.
Stepehen Ireland is a gob****e - who needs to cop himself on ( Even if he does live 5 seconds from Micah richards)
People like Ireland disgust me to be honest, the world at their feet and they don't know how good they have it
I only saw glimpses of today's match but he certainly looks like to be on the same level as the rest of the Man City players.
Saw the game, on the ball he is very neat and tidy but he still goes out of the game for good 15 minute periods at a time. As Giles says needs to demand the ball a bit more rather than just get it whenever.
You're right....in the first 20 mins, I was convinced he wasn't playing....never saw him nor heard his name. After that I thought he had a reasonable game but agree he should come inside looking for the ball if there is no service out wide to him.
Still his hair looked really good, so I suppose that's the main thing!;)
He's dead to me now!!
I'm not even gonna check his form or watch out for his performances til plays for us again...
Well let's just say he's 'Dormant' to me now....
Dunno if this was posted earlier (couldn't be bothered trawling through the pages) but this was what Ian Holloway had to say about Ireland in his column on the bbc website.
STEPHEN IRELAND'S SUPERMAN SHORTS
He's a complete fruitcake, that bloke, isn't he? We've got to be careful with him, he's after the old crazy mantle and he's going to win it hands down.
You'd better ask Superman what he thinks about it, someone impersonating him playing for Man City.
Holloway is nuts
There is a great clip of Holloway in a post match interview trying to compare his clubs performance with a bloke on the pull in a nightclub and ending up with a munter/hodder (i.e. somebody not attractive). The guy isn't exactly the full shilling himself!
Reading "Goals" in the English Scun today (found it on the train of course, no way am I sending 20p:)). It says about Ireland "worse barnet than elton john" in their player overview. He should now expect something similar on a weekly basis from this "paper" as that is their MO. As an aside it give Dunne their starman award.
Apparently it was a stunning volley
He may be a fruit loop but we could definitely do with him back in the squad at some point.
The looper society threw him out for being an extremist. We still need him mind. Interesting comment from Sven on playing Ireland up front "He was like a second striker near the end. Maybe that is his best position. Stephen is young, talented and has a long career in front of him."
I have it on good authority that Venables has said he'd make Stephen Ireland shave his head in front of the lads whereas Hodgson & Jol have said they'd make sure he's a happy camper.
My opinion on this one is that he has been through a very traumatic experience, and had every right to make a few mistakes for a while. And I really couldn't care less about his hair plugs either, it never harmed Mihaylov in goal for Bulgaria. What i do know is that he is getting back to what he does best, and scored a cracking winner against reading today. Lay off the kid. If Venables has said that he should never be managing staff in any capacity, much less our national side
Cracking volley it has to be said.Good that he mentioned Ireland(erm...our national team) in his MOTD interview and made the interviewer laugh with his cheeky reference to Man Yoo losing.
I think efforts should be made to be made to get him back into the ROI setup, as he clearly has something to offer in terms of skill.
However, he needs to want to be there also. If he's not sure about it, he'll be too much of a liability.
Exactly Ciaran, I was thinking similarly. With the players we have how do we accomodate him? His goals were valuable for us but in other games - notably Cyprus away - he left the pitch wide open for the opposition midfield.
One thing's for sure though, he's ten times the player Liam Miller is.
I don't know the answer (I can think of suggestions) but I'm not sure if this was something Stan even identified as a problem. A manager worth his salt ought to be able to solve this puzzle.
Duff, Hunt, McGeady (great goal again y'day), Ireland, A. Reid, S. Reid., Carsley (dominated midfield against Sunderland), plus emerging players like Garvan, O'Toole, McCarthy, Joey O'Brien. Surely someone with a footballing brain can make a bunch like this into a competitive midfield?
Probbly reading too much into it, but was delighted to hear him mention Ireland in his MOTD interview... Seemed like a bit of an olive branch/ice breaker to irish fans!!!! (to me it did anyway)
