Where are all the Longford Foot.ie users? Surely they didn't all go to Wales did they?
Spare a thought for the Longford supporters who made the jounrey for this one lads. :o
Congratulations Cork though it is disappointing you lost at home to a side you could beat 2-0 away.
My god longford were bad against harps last weekend but 5-1......................
Well done cork restoring a bit of pride.
Both Cork and Longford have let the league down...
no COEFFICIENT points :(
Its shocking !!
Cork go through but what good is that for anyone except Cork? They will not get a better chance at more points then a home fixture in the first round.
Longford OUT, Shels away to Steaua and Cork are whats left!
We needed to get an average of about 2.5 to 3 to have much chance of getting that bye into Round 2. 1.500 looks like its about all we will get :(
Are Mullingar Town still interested in joining the league? One free league place agoing.....
have all the barstoolers on now harping on about how sh1te the league is ............... q the longford and shellthick jokes
You can't say Cork let the league down, their first priority is progression and they did that much.
As for Longford
Still Hayser a trip overseas to see your team get ripped apart is not something I'd fancy.Quote:

Thanks
Cork should have finished the job off at home. Its crap results like that that will have them UNseeded in the Champions League if they get there!! and its being UNseeded in the Champions League that means we will get no further then the first round again.
At least shels went into the HOME game against Glentoran with the correct attitude. We really needed 6 wins from 6 in the first round and we only got 4 thanks to Cork and Longford.
Im happy for the Cork fans who are now into the 2nd QR , well done to Cork but as a league we are still a joke. 5-1 to a Welsh team ???? FC Vaduz and now this?? Longford are doing their best to get all other countries they face above us in the coefficient table
That's a near impossibility. The national co-efficient is an accumulated result of points gained over the last 5 years. It'll take us years to work it up to that.Quote:

And as hard as it is say this. Best of Luck to Longford and all their supporters
Especially with Longford as one of the three teams :(
They are a joke!! Wales will be ranked higher then us at this rate !! Longford your a disgrace to the league. Im sick tonight :( Shels get two wins and a draw but then it really counts for nothing with this crap tonight.
Whew - well done Cork City - you guys had us worried there.
I feel nothing but sadness for the large contingent of Longford fans who went over and suffered that disgraceful display and also all those who worked so hard to improve facilities etc. This result just has no excuses going for it. You win a home game 2-0 - should have been more I believe - and then get stuffed by the same outfit 5-1 two weeks later.
What the hell happened??
I'll just bet we hear reports about some pre-match dispute about bonuses, expenses or something like that. I can smell something like that happening.
Rediculous? - I've seen that happen up close with another club when players threatened to go on strike over bonuses 15 minutes before a vital promotion game and played $hite for the 90 inutes when their bluff was called.
I can think of no other reasons why a team might implode that easily.
If any Longford fans hear ANYTHING like the above - spit it out and let those fcuking players - who threw your loyal support back in your faces - know that they are no longer wanted.
This is the kind of result that really p!$$es me off with regard to EL football.
What formation did Matthew put out? 0-0-11??
There's 2. Cork have negotiated the first and are now through to the 2nd. Btw this coefficient is worked out by dividing the total number of points earned by a country's clubs divided by the number of clubs. At the qualifying stage clubs get 1 point for a draw and 2 for a win. As Ireland has three clubs those points are divided by three.Quote:

Yes but most of them defend the team and the results they get. Vaduz is still seen as some sort of ok defeat??
They allow this to go on because they dont put pressure on Matthews. He should walk away after that. Whats the point !!
id like to see them try and defend this result
Matthews will put it down to a "crazy 15 minute spell, were they managed to snatch 3 very fortunate goals"Quote:

I cannot wait to hear some of the chants that will be aimed at them now. That said, I hope they all die and never get to play in front of paying fans again - its just too much to ask for.
After all the progress and hope, after the great results in recent times, summer football, increased crowds, more TV, more money, and then, 5-1 and 1-0. Terrible, terrible, terrible day for the eL and it's not just Longford, Cork lost 1 nil at home against a crowd they beat 2-0 away. That is terrible, if a club has any ambition whatsoever it would push for two wins, especially if the first one was 2-0 away. Can this be placed squarely at the managers doorstep? I don't think the Longford result can be, but maybe the Cork one, if you're not going to go out to win a game, don't go out at all. What is the ****ing story with managers sitting back? How many times do they need to be bitten in the arse to know that it's not gonna work. Hard to argue with the barstoolers saying the league is ****e now.
****'s sake.
Am I the only one who couldn't give a monkies about how other teams do in Europe?
Co-efficient schmoefficient I say........ People on here talk in reverential terms about the coefficient as some kind of Holy Grail that deserves respect and constant monitoring, cogitating and the like. WTF?
I'm bemused by the heartfelt abuse directed at Longford by supporters of various other clubs on here.
I'll start caring about Europe the next time Derry qualify and until then I have a passing interest at best.
Lads take a chill pill and direct your energy towards supporting your own team, rather than pouncing on one club who have had a few bad results in Europe in succession.
Have you any memories? Our recent European successes are a blip in a longer history of downright failure interspersed with highpoints of mediocrity.
If you listen to some of the crap spouted on here you'd think we were realistic contenders to win something......
The point is we're trying to progress so it wont just be a 'blip'.
It's impossible to do that with displays like tonight in Wales.
The next time Derry qualify will probably be this season and you'll be thankful for the seeding you'll get if the coefficient goes up. We all want the eL teams to do well as it'll raise the profile of the league and hopefully in turn the quality as a whole.
So you'd happily start off unseeded in the first round, when the potential is there to start further in and be seeded, with better chances of making the higher stages? Or is that irrelevant, co-efficients are how UEFA rank the leagues and decide all this, it effects every team. Christ, god forbid, Lonford might even make it into Europe again some day!Quote:

And as was pointed out above, we all had a chance to ensure they weren't in Europe, as the last time I checked every club was in the hat for the 2nd round draw of the cup.

It's not always abuse - we care about clubs representing us and wish them to do well. Criticism is a vital ingredient. If/When Derry City get into Europe next season - most of us will be shouting for you guys - not too sure about the Harps fans. :D
I agree with you about all that co-efficient stuff though -I leave it up to the other Footiepersons to explain it to me- too much maths involved,
Longford do the League proud once again. :D
Vaduz, last year, Carmarthen this, who's next, a bunch of goat herders from Albania. :D
Roll on Kazakhstan. :p
They should hold their heads in shame and if they get into Europe next season I'll be sick to my stomach
First and foremost, I went into tonights games with an air of expectation. Well done Cork for starters. They went into the tie as the unseeded team and came out winners. A good achievement and I hope they get a super tie next round. (either a nice money spinner or an easy tie). Longford have shamed us as Pats did with eth 10-0 and how we did against Hibernians. This however is worse because I can safely say that Longford were 2-0 up. Part timers out of season and against a team who are suppose to be in the middle of their season. Woeful. Its actually embarrassing to go to work tomorrow and I am a shels fan.
Cork City - WELL DONE.
